At 4-6 the New York Jets have plenty of ground to make up as they fight back into the AFC playoff race. With six games remaining in the regular season, there is little margin for error. Tonight's game, against the rival Patriots, will have massive implications as to how the Jets will play out their final five games.
The Patriots will be the toughest test for Gang Green down the home stretch. In the weeks following tonight's game, the Jets face five teams (Jaguars, Bills, Titans, Cardinals, Chargers) all with losing records. These next couple of weeks shape up nicely for the Jets to make a run. If the team can get consistent, steady play from quarterback Mark Sanchez, (easier said then done) they certainly have a punchers chance-- if they can take care of business tonight.
Realistically, the Jets must go at least 5-1 these next six games, if they want a shot at the postseason. And even that might not cut it. Two losses in the next six weeks will have the Jets at 8-8, and all but certainly watching the playoffs from home.
With this season having been a disappointment thus far, any thought of the postseason might appear as wishful thinking... but they still have a chance. Sure, Sunday's win came against an inconsistent Rams team. And maybe I'm being generous, giving the Jets the benefit of the doubt, (which I have not done all season) but this season has been bad enough... Why not hope for something positive? If the Jets loss three of their next six games and miss out on the post season for a second straight year...Whatever, we suspected they would. But if they can pull off a Miracle (and it would be a Miracle) and make a run, how could any sports fan (Jets fan or Anti-Jet) not appreciate that kind of Drama.
