Whatever we do - We can't draft a QB this year.

That's right. I said it. In the 2013 the New York Jets cannot, and should not draft a QB in 2013. At least not early, and I'll tell you why.

In the year of our Lord 2009, the NY Jets traded up in the draft to take our Sanchize. We gave up a myriad of picks and got our "QB for the Future." Or so we thought. We had a new coach, a new QB, a new Direction! And in back-to-back years, we were one game short of the promise land.

In 2011 things started to unravel and 2012 seems to have followed similarly. Same Coach, same QB......what has changed? I think you all know where I am going with this.

In 2009 and 2010 we had one of the best offensive lines in the country. We had a stout defensive line anchored by one of my favorites Kris Jenkins (God rest his ACL). We had a solid running game with Thomas Jones (at least in 2009.) This created some sort of winning formula, which Rex seems to think is "ground and pound." Run first, and second, and then pass safely. But it's much, much simpler than that.

These games are won with a supporting cast-and mostly by the big ugly guys’ right there in the middle. So I say, that this year, our Focus and picks need to be used on strengthening our offensive line, improving our running game, our line backing core (as I believe our D-Line is vastly improving) and take a shot or two at some WR's who can actually run sharp routes.

The reason I say this is threefold:

1 - My most basic reason - What is the point of drafting a QB when he will still have no time to throw the ball, no one to throw it to, and no one that can do any damage when he hands it off?

2 - Mr. T. did this stupid thing called a "contract extension" with Mr. Sanchez, and we basically have him for another year anyway. With the starting success rate of rookie QB's being at an all-time high, why draft someone to sit behind Sanchez? And why pay TWO backup QB's a small fortune next year (i.e. Sanchez and Tebow)

3 - There really isn't a QB coming out this year that I would deem to be a franchise caliber guy. Of course there are always diamonds in the rough, but I think 2014 will be a better class of quality QBs.

To sum it up - I think that if we can create a solid core again, and develop them in 2013 - I believe that our future QB will be much better off coming in with a stronger supporting cast, than if we just try to plug in a new QB with what currently exists.
