By now we all know about the article Manish Mehta wrote for today's Daily News where mostly unnamed Jets trash Tebow. Today Rex addressed it in his press conference. I am no Tebow supporter. I think he is a terrible quarterback. He has no business being a starter in the NFL by any means. However, I do think it is quite gutless to talk crap about your teammate behind his back. Be a man and say it to his face.
However, I am not writing to talk about the article. I would like to discuss Rex's response. He said that they had brought Tebow in to be the backup quarterback from Day 1. I am fine with that. Then he went on to talk about the usual Tebow characteristics: he said what a great guy he is and how he is always the hardest worker, first one in last one out. I'll get over that. Then he decided to take it a step further. He gave TEBOW much of the credit for ROBERT MALONE'S success. Are you serious??? That is ludicrous to me. This was him trying to justify bringing in Tebow. You don't do that and you don't take credit away from another guy who is doing his job.
Even if this was true, Tebow being the reason for Malone's success, that's still not good enough. You brought a one man circus in town to a clubhouse that is already full of distractions. If you are going to do that and he is going to be a part of the offense he damn well better make a difference on offense. Rex justifies his lack of production by pointing out that when he can't do anything, at least he helps with punting.
I think it's time to clean house. This is not the major reason, just the last straw.
