Injury Report

The deeper into the season the New York Jets, the more injuries they seem to be accruing. Can they withstand even more damage to the already questionable depth of the team?

Last night against the Houston Texans, the New York Jets had several injuries to players, thus proving how snakebitten this season is. Among the injured were C Nick Mangold, DT Kenrick Ellis, WR Clyde Gates, and LB Josh Mauga. We are currently awaiting the results of Mangold's MRI on his ankle, but I suspect it isn't that serious, as he was able to return and play on it. Ellis, on the other hand, suffered a MCL sprain, similar to the injury that has sidelined FB John Conner. He will miss at least two games, and the Jets will turn to Damon Harrison as their primary defensive tackle. I expect a signing shortly. Gates suffered a dislocated arm, although the arm has been popped back in and he should be fine relatively quickly. Finally, Mauga has just been diagnosed with a torn pectoral muscle. He will be out for the year. With injuries to Bart Scott and Bryan Thomas, and Mauga as a primary backup, we can expect to see more of Demario Davis in his stead.

This rough season just keeps getting rougher. The injuries are mounting and we need the bye week soon so we can heal up, even if it's just a bit. What little depth we have is running out with all these injuries, stemming initially from all the "soft-tissue" injuries suffered over training camp. Now, more than ever, we're going to need our backups to step up and take the reigns. This is their chance at proving they belong. For most of these guys, they may never get another shot.

Update: Ellis' suffered a sprained MCL and PCL and will be out 4-6 weeks. Mangold has a sprained ankle, but is likely to play this weekend, as is Dustin Keller. Gates should be up and running relatively soon.
