When Sione missed the Bills
game, we didn't fret. We figured, "eh they're spread team so he probably wouldn't have gotten all that many snaps anyway." Then he came back for the Steelers
game, and he didn't really look right. He was getting knocked off the ball by double-teams and more or less controlled by single blocks too. But we controlled their running game for the most part, so we kind of swept it under the rug of our collective fan conscious. Then came the Phins game.
The Phins, we knew, were gonna be a good running team with a good center in Pouncey. This was the game that we needed the real Sione Po'uha to stand up. And much to our collective dismay, he didn't. The real Sione Po'uha is the best NT in the league. He's a guy that stalemates double-teams and drives single blocks two yards back behind scrimmage. Not only did we not see the real Sione against the Phins, we saw him getting pushed around by Pouncey... solo. It became painfully obvious that Po'uha wasn't right. Not only was he not himself, he was an out and out liability out there. It was embarrassing. Pouncey was knocking him three yards off the ball and pushing him around. He tried to give it a go against the Niners the next week, but again he was a liability. So we shut him down for a bit.
The talk is that Sione will be playing in this second go 'round with Miami. Rather than playing safe and sitting this one out with the bye coming up next week for extra rest, Po'uha is strapping up. And don't think for one second that its not about showing the young stud center down in Miami that Sione Po'uha is not a man that gets pushed around. Don't think for one second that its not about professional pride. And you can bet your ass that he wouldn't be going unless he was ready to make sure that the point he's setting out to make is going to be made. There's a storm coming all right. Its been quietly building strength and its set to unleash hell on Sunday.
Pouncey has been running his yap all week about going after Maybin. The young buck kicked some ass the last time he played against the Jets
, so he's cocky and brash and feeling good about himself. Po'uha has been silent... deadly silent. He hears all the nonsense. He's been soaking it all in and focusing on his match-up and stewing over his embarrassing showing the last go around. Pouncey thinks its a joke that Maybin is talking while he doesn't play all that much. Pouncey said that Maybin should watch out because the Phins will be after him. All of Pouncey's focus on Maybin is an absolute slap in the face to Sione. Sione Po'uha when he's healthy is one of the most dominant DLs in football, and Pouncey is flapping his yap about Aaron freaking Maybin. It's a slap in the face to Po'uha. Extremely disrespectful. Sione has spoken two words about this game, "I'm playing." Pouncey should be a little less worried about Maybin and a little more worried about watching his own ass. He's gonna have monster right across from him play after play after play. A monster out to prove something. A monster with a chip on his shoulder.
There's a storm coming on Sunday. A Samoan storm. And its gonna rain pain.
