There is much talk now about Sanchez and if he will ever be any good. I followed Sanchez from HS and he is a winner. Though I'm very disappointed in him right now with his play and he is not blameless for our problems, I know his attitude is still there. He is looking many a time like a bonehead and trying to make things happen when it is not there. That is the lack of maturity. I have stated many times that Sanchez was babied and cuddled when we came here and was given the attitude of don't lose it for us and the play calling was ridiculous at times. He bought into the schotty and rex to to not lose and let our defense hold the other teams offense. They didn't build the offense around him to win, they built it for him not to lose. Seems when Sanchez had to take charge, we did a hurry up offense and he did some play calling he did much better.
Well the don't lose kind of mentality worked in 2009 and 2010 and we made the playoffs. The domination was mainly against the rush and it help with the pass defense along with the blitz packages. Then other teams started to figure our blitzes out and we had no pass rush even in the good years. We could not pressure without a blitz and even with the blitz no pressure many times. We also look slow and that's when I felt unless we draft well or get some UDFA studs we could be in trouble and now the the bad dream could be unfolding.
As a vocal critic of the FO and having got a warning because of my unnecessary words to them I want to say why the organization is dysfunctional IMO. In 2009 we peaked just right and we did back into the playoffs but we did have a good run and our QB played real good. Then in 2010 we made the Wild Card again and had a good run and our QB played good. But during those good runs we could see our team getting older and slower. We made it that far without a pass rush. We did attempt to get better and signed some FA but was it the right ones? Then our draft, our future we messed that up, thought the verdict is still out as many say. But why are rookies really contributing on other teams and not ours. Is it our player evaluation or lack of player development? I had high hopes for our big young studs on the DL with Dunbar's coaching and still do. I dream of a pass rush without blitzing and when we do blitz sacks our turnovers galore.
In another post the talk is if Sanchez could be like Matt Ryan, some say no way and some say yes. I'm on the side that says yes if he had a dedicated FO. The falcons got a good WR corps, an all world TE, a RB who was to take over for LT but couldn't wait. They built their franchise around Ryan and gave him the tools. The only old guy they got for him to start was Tony G, and I don't care how old he was he is still a stud. The there's Alex Smith of the 49ers the guy I thought was a bust for sure. Now he is considered one of the best, the coaching and the system brought him back from the bust grave. They did have the young talent but Singletary and his staff couldn't get it together. New coaching, and supportive organization and now we have the new 49ers. They said we think he needs better WR's so they drafted Crabtree and the next year got Manningham in FA.
When our players go down seems like the first place we look is the waiver wire, that has already been picked through or take a chance on a FA that has issues and nobody wants. That means we have no depth fans. Then we get a locker room out of control last year and things needed to be patched up. How did it get that far, I know we broke down at the end but where is the team unity and pride. So 2012 we needed to step up even more in the draft, player evaluation and maybe FA. The FA part the FO screwed us up because it seems now we have hardly any money to get some good ones. Remember when how proud we were that players from other teams want to come to the Jets to play for Rex. I was like, we got the team, we got the coach, our future looks awesome time for a Jets dynasty. Well do our players want to come to us now and play for the Jets and Rex? Do other teams and fans think we have a dysfunctional organization?
The season has a long way fans and I'm not giving up, my heart is still there even though our organization looks dysfunctional the hope is the playoffs and as the season goes on and if my dream starts to fade I going to really start blaming some people and it starts from the top. We considered this colts game a victory for us and if we win OK we won but we still a long way to go and if we lose then the attitude will change to it could be a long long season.
