Sanchez wins in the post season...Your QB doesn't, period!

I, along with several other fans posting on this site, have been defending Sanchez to the teeth and are getting tired of it. Sanchez took the jets to back to back afc championships, set a rookie post season record for pass yards, td's and W's; and is 4-2 (all on the road). Now how many first round or starting QB's, playing in the NFL since Sanchez was drafted, have even played in a play off game? Let alone won a play off game?. Romo, Stafford, Ryan, Schaub, etc. etc., are all QB's who post big numbers during the regular season, but haven't done it in the post season. That's the only time that really matters to an organization with a superbowl in it's cross hairs.

Sanchez has proven he can perform when it's crunch time. In fact, he is at his best when he is under the gun. The most disturbing thing about number 6 this season was his attitude; the poor decision making and bad passes can be fixed. Its the natural confidence Sanchez possesses, that puts him ahead of the QB's mentioned above. Romo and Matty "ICE" Ryan are point and case examples of this mind game and how it affects their performance in high risk games. You can just feel it, when Sanchez has the ball in the final two minutes, you know he can get it done. The cowboys and falcons don't have that kind of instinctual trust in their quarterback's.

If Mark Sanchez is still making costly decisions, bad throws and moping around after a mistake next season; then I agree it would be wise to start looking for a replacement or alternative. But with Brian Schottenhiemer calling in plays off his xbox controller, wayne hunter and matt slauson failing miserably every snap, and awful route's and weak effort from players like Plax and Santonio, how can we expect much success from any QB?

I am excited and fully confident in Mark Sanchez, and believe with some new direction and a well refined approach to how this offense is run, that the Jets will have no problem achieving their superbowl aspirations. This team is still full of potential, and we have a WINNING qb behind center; so in comparison to the falcons and cowboys, I CANT WAIT for 2012 to kick off. J!!!! E!!!!! T!!!!! S!!!!!! JETS!!!!! JETS!!!! JETS!!!!!

Poll
Are you confident in #6 going into next season?

You're proceeding from a faulty premise....

Namely, that QBs by themselves are solely responsible for post season records, and that therefore a QB who wins in the post season is inherently better than one who loses. By that premise, here are some “mediocre” QBs with their post-season records:

Peyton Manning - 9-10
Brett Favre -
13-11
Dan Marino - 8-10
Jim Kelly -
9-8

and here are some “immortal” QBs:

Jim Plunkett — 8-2
Joe Theisman — 6-2
Trent Dilfer — 5-1
Mark Rypien — 5-2
Jeff Hostetler — 4-1
Earl Morrall — 4-1

By your definition, let’s face it, the second group just won in the post-season and the first group didn’t. Therefore the second group is a much better bunch of QBs than the first group.

God help the GM who built a team that way.

Hang on

Earl Morral, Jim Plunkett and Theisman were all quality QBs

And That Is a JET FIRST DOWN!!!
No This is Patrick...

by JetsFanMurphy on Jan 9, 2012 11:17 PM EST up reply actions

Yep

But they weren’t Hall of Famers. Everyone in the first list is in the Hall of Fame. As much as I enjoyed Plunkett’s late career renaissance, would you really take him over anyone in the first list? Would you take Theisman or Morrall over any in the first list? Point is, post season records are a poor measure of how good a QB is.

by Smackdad on Jan 9, 2012 11:23 PM EST up reply actions

heres something ironic about that list...

Manning,Favre,Marino and Kelly COMBINED to win 2 Superbowls and the “lesser” bunch has 7 , thats right 7 !!!! Superbowl Rings ,lol

"The message to the rest of the league is, hey, the Jets are coming, and we're going to give you everything we got. And I think that's going to be more than you can handle"

by AFCxxBEAST on Jan 10, 2012 8:51 AM EST up reply actions

lol

I was going to say that, so thank you….SUPERBOWLS IN MIND

by erok2424 on Jan 11, 2012 1:17 AM EST up reply actions

Yep

Plunkett has 2 rings, Favre has 1, therefore Plunkett is better than Favre.
Hostetler has 1, Marino 0, therefore Hostetler is better than Marino.
Roethlisberger has 2, Peyton Manning has 1, so Ben is better than Peyton.
Bob Griese has 2, Johny Unitas has 1, so Griese is better than Unitas.

Are you even listening to yourselves? This argument is beyond stupid. No GM in his right mind chooses any of the QBs in List 2 over any of the QBs in List 1. If you would, you simply know nothing about football.

Slauson failing miserably ever snap???

Really?
Anybody between brick and the beard should be okay and Slauson has been pretty damn solid!

by GangGreenGol4 on Jan 10, 2012 12:37 AM EST reply actions

I think most of that line play has to due with hunter not being able to stop anyone.

If you can’t trust the guy next to you it reverbs down the line. Remember Adrien Clarke? He was so bad he made Mangold AND DBrick suck because he couldn’t get the job done. Slauson IMO is average. Not great not bad just average. And really thats fine by me.

by sp0rtsfan86 on Jan 10, 2012 3:19 AM EST up reply actions

I think Slauson is above average. He’s always mixing it up, he’s a mauler and he’s just vocal enough where he has the potential to be the leader of the line, despite all the quality there already.

Touche'...I let Slauson get stuck in a rant aimed mostly at Hunter

I definitely hear you guys about Slauson, I should have been more articulate about a distinction between Slauson and Hunter. For the record, I think Slauson is average and his first two seasons were rougher than this year. I admit that I should be thankful for Slauson at this point and should have just left his name out of the paragraph. Most of that was a rage towards Wayne Hunter show this season.

and matt slauson failing miserably every snap,

i hate these type of posts where guys come on and say slauson is bad to defend sanchez . to me it shows a lack of knowledge in the whole offence .
blame hunter = fine
but to blame slauson before you heap any blame on our pro bowl LT shows that you don’t totally understand the problems the o line has
slauson has been great this year . add that he is a 6th round pick in his 3rd year , we should be doing back flips at how good this guy is

if its for you it won't pass you

+1

yeah . just like that

if its for you it won't pass you

I was scared when he did that.

End of the Patriots game in the Divisional round right? I didn’t want Braylon Edwards doing full flips in the playoffs…

I'm gonna keep trying for what i want and on here it's to be a staff writer for any team in the NFL on SBNation.

I should have left Slauson out of the paragraph; agreed, he was unfairly thrown into a rant geared towards Hunter

Look I hear you guys, and agree. I shouldn’t have put Slauson in that rant, it was written in rage over Hunter and our line play this season. I will tell you I most likely have logged more hours on a football field and in games then you have, fully understand whats going on with our O line (as best as any fan can from the stands), and am more than capable of making a fair assessment of the Jets O-line. Ok Slauson isnt the worst, but THE WHOLE FREAKING LINE SUCKED IN 2011. Even D-brick had a tough season, and I wasn’t impressed with any of our o line play this year. That includes everyone. I’ll take Slauson too, but I won’t take the performance given this last year by that unit as a whole. So Im glad your so ecstatic about Slauson, but Im not too happy about what I just watched the last four months from any of those guys. And FYI LT doesnt play on our O line, and he is one of the premier chip blocking backs in the game, the fact he wasnt showing up all the time probably has to do with age. So before you go out there breaking down LT and back flips over our line this year, maybe you should dust up on your football knowledge. Go root for the phins or something, I don’t want to be associated with numb nutz like you haha

by erok2424 on Jan 11, 2012 1:10 AM EST up reply actions

I will tell you I most likely have logged more hours on a football field and in games then you have

i should hope so , i have never played lol , but that doesn’t mean my eyes don’t work . slauson has been the most improved player on our line this year . and regarding our LT i was refering to our left tackle d’brick not our RB .
but i hear you about hunter . my point to you was more about giving a guy like brick a pass while tearing slauson a new one for no reason

if its for you it won't pass you
