Everything on my mind about the Jets Off Season.

Alright, i just want to thank LiveLoveNYJets for giving me the balls to go out and say this. I want Trent Richardson in round 1 more then anything. I like Shonn Greene, but i don't think LT want's to be on the Jets anymore. I don't think he want's to retire. This is his way of saying, i want to go to a Super Bowl for the first time in my career, and this team has a crappy club house and isn't Super Bowl worthy. Which i am completely fine with. He deserves a Super Bowl more then anyone else in the NFL. But, even if LT stays with us, it won't be very long. My ideal RB duo for us is Trent Richardson and Shonn Greene. You take an average/ above average QB and you give him an average/ below average RB duo, with a below average WR core. I have a good feeling about an improved WR core though, I'm very excited about Jeremy Kerley who finished on a hot streak to end the season. But the point of this is, when Mark shoves the ball up the gut with an RB, he comes out and it's 2nd and 8, get's a 3 or 4 yard completion or just an incompletion, then the next play is incomplete no matter what. That's how our drives went, and that's my reasoning. It could be 2nd and 6 or 2nd and 5 instead of 2nd and 9 or 2nd and 8.

Ok, get rid of Shotty. This is downright embaressing how much times he makes Sanchez throw it per game. He isn't even helping him, and i swear, he is telling Mark to not throw it to Santonio Holmes. Sanchez has the talent. Whether we like him or not, we can all admit that we have seen several flashes of elite QB come out of him. Whenever we score TDs, Shotty acts like it's only because of him, with that stupid look on his face in the sideline. I hope he goes to the Jaguars, if he does, i will go to there SBnation blog and make a post title saying: He's you'rs now. He is a key part into why we went 8-8. They should also just get rid of Wayne Hunter before anything.

Now, i'm also tired of hearing about how Rex should be fired and how he should shut up. He shouldn't. Well, in a way. Now i think it's cool with the Super Bowl predictions, but once the season start's he needs to keep his mouth shut. Just saying when he gives out a season prediction, i'd rather he say: Damnit, we are going to win the Super Bowl and i don't give a shit about what everyone else thinks, then Oh umm... Yeah, we will try to win some games ( in a really boring voice ). He took a lost team and turned them around to the best Defense in the NFL ( at the time ), and brought them to 2 AFC Championships. In my opinion. that's pretty damn good. I say he could be one of the best Head Coaches in the NFL.

Peyton Manning??? I have heard Rex say: " Oh, we trust mark", " Mark is a great leader", " Our team is behind Mark", but when did he say, we don't want Peyton Manning. I do. I have been a diehard Jets fan since 1978. Never seen a Super Bowl. Have never got to one in my lifetime and i think it's pretty pathetic that they have only gotten to one in their history. I just want to see them win ONE Super Bowl. I haven't cared about long-term team since 1995. Peyton Manning is NOT another Brett Favre. Peyton Manning has played through injuries ( serious injuries ). Add on top of that, he is in the top 5 greatest QB's of all time. Arguably the best of all time. With Manning, we are Super Bowl contenders for next year as long as we get the cherry on top of our Defense. Peyton Manning gets the ball away extremely fast, and it doesn't matter who the WR is. Peyton Manning will get him to catch it. Just like he did with the Colts ( The only one WR he ever had that wasn't extremely over rated was Marvin Harrison ).

Like i said in the paragraph above, you guys may think i'm crazy, but Peyton Manning, Trent Richardson, The finishing touch on our Defense, get rid of Shotty. For THIS Off Season. By the way, i don't expect them to do this. But in my opinion, it would help get a Super Bowl next year and maybe the next. I just want one in this era and i will be the happiest man alive.

Ugh, no thanks on drafting an RB in round 1

Good post thought. I don’t consider Peyton a realistic possibility but sports journalists are quick to throw speculative gasoline on that fire so who knows.

Losing Schotty and Wayne Hunter are probably the two most critical things to me right now.

Why do people think Peyton is going to come here?

Lets see, Rex Ryan is a total opposite of any coach he ever had. Most of Peyton coaches have been low key.
After seeing the Jet short off season and the disarray the team is in, why come here?
Do you think he really want to come in a major market like NY.
He has an 51 million option. If Indy don’t keep him, do you think he’s gonna play for less then half of that money. In other words, it’s gonna take at least 25 million per year to get him here.
Last, do you think he would jump at a opportunity to show up his younger brother who is coming into his own as a QB.
I would be shocked, if Peyton Manning comes to play for the Jets. Keep dreaming people.

by BIG OH!!!!! on Jan 8, 2012 5:42 AM EST reply actions

Peyton WOULD want to come here

He’s going to want to play for a contender. What contending team has 25 million in cap room for him? Jets will have as much as any of them. You think he’s signing with a crap team? And players still love to play for Rex Ryan. Why would he prefer a low key coach? I’ll also bet that competitors like the Manning brothers would absolutely love to compete with each other in the NY market. A player with Peyton’s ego would love the challenge of winning the Jets their first SB in over 40 years. I’m not saying he’s coming, but I believe the Jets would be at or near the top of his list. I’ll be interested to see who Miami names as their head coach, because I could also see him going there.

Trent Richardson is a beast

But for a 1st round pick is he what’s needed? If they got him I’d be happy. If they got a need position, I’d be happy. If they can address the other spots and get him than great.

by manuvsteal on Jan 9, 2012 1:23 PM EST up reply actions

Here's my ideaology

If he falls to us, you take him. If he doesn’t it’s not like it’s the biggest loss in the world. You still have your pick of Upshaw, Curry, Nick Perry, etc.

not for me

good post , but i’d rather pass rusher RT or jeffery in the 1st .

if its for you it won't pass you

by tinley24 on Jan 8, 2012 4:18 PM EST reply actions

While having a healthy Peyton Manning would be great

Id prefer the Jets go away from their annual search for superstars nearing the end of their careers. Personally, I would rather they take all the money and use it on depth. I do agree that we need a RB to complement Greene but not a fan of spending a #1 pick on one. But then again, going after a pass rusher is scary too. You never know if you are getting the next JPP or the next Gholston.

Should you choose to test my resolve in this matter, you will be facing a finality beyond your comprehension, and you will not be counting days, or months, or years, but milleniums in a place with no doors.

Unless he's the next AP

No way… We have way bigger needs…. Beat the Pats=long playoff runs. Beat the Pats=find a Safety who can defend athletic and tall TE’s; preferably a ball hawk. Our run defense needs to be improved as well.

by Buddy James on Jan 8, 2012 7:47 PM EST reply actions

Dude

Acquiring Manning is neither realistic or rational. Forget that one hard hit would end his career. At most he’ll only play 1-2 more years. It would take a king’s ransom to get him from Indy and the only way the Jets would be able to fit him under their cap is to cut Revis and several other players, or half their team. This isn’t Madden NFL. Get real.

Both Schotty and Hunter should go, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see them both back. Tanny is effing clueless.

Richardson would be a great draft pick but Perry, Upshaw or perhaps Mercilius would be MUCH, MUCH better.

Um

That’s a little over the top with having to cut Revis and the other players or half their team. They could cut a bunch of people at the bottom of the roster ( Westerman and Pool are backups ) and we would make enough cap room for Peyton Manning. And why would Richardson be alot worse then all those other picks? I also said that i just wanted a Super Bowl this or next year.

I don't care what people say about me and i will keep doing what i enjoy.

You Don't Have a Clue What You're Talking About

Manning would cost on the order of $25 million. A bunch of bottom of the roster players isn’t going to add up to $25 million, unless you’re talking about half the team. Team rosters are 53 players. How are the Jets supposed to replace all those players if they’ve used all their money on Manning? How are they supposed to sign their draft picks? You’re just being totally unrealistic.

But it's not like we will do much after that.

What i’m saying is, get Peyton Manning. Trent Richardson is a rookie so he won’t go all crazy to get a monster contract. If we don’t get anyone else, ( we could take an FS or an OLB but it’s not that much money ) then that’s worth one off season. Plus, it looks like we will drop Bart Scott which is a great amount of cap space ( and add on the drop of the crappy players ) opened up. And if we don’t get Richardson, then we could get Chris Polk. If you don’t know who he is then look up highlights of him. He’s an RB out of Washington State and he’s projected early/middle second round. So if that stretches out to middle then we could also get him.

I don't care what people say about me and i will keep doing what i enjoy.

by sanchise6 on Jan 8, 2012 10:19 PM EST up reply actions

No Manning...its not worth it...

Would you rather have end of his career manning comming off an injury with no gaurentees or Mario Williams, Michael. Griffith, Tyvone Branch, a solid free agent RT, ans quite possibly some cap room left over. That would give us a premier pass rusher, two new amazing safties, an answer at RT, and more importantly fill all the glaring holes we have on the roster allowing us to take the best player available in the draft…which at our spot just might be Richerdson. Now I’m not saying we could do this, but I am saying if we could find a way to pay Manning then we could do this instead. One more thing, cutting bart scott will actually cost us more money next year..it will save us in 2013.

by RhodesRocks on Jan 9, 2012 8:23 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

cutting scott will not save us cap room

it will leave us at least 1m worse in cap

list of starters we could cut to open cap space

sanchez $9,246,875
Moore, $3,000,000
DeVito,$2,810,000
Hunter,$2,500,000
Smith$2,050,000
Keller,$1,152,500
Pitoitua $1,150,000
Alexander $708,120

as you can see from the above list , that we can really cut many guys , except hunter , smith and Alexander. all the other guy would cost to much to replace and are also worth keeping .
there are other players that are way down the depth chart the we could cut but we would still fall way short of the 25m needed to get manning

if its for you it won't pass you

Thanks!!!

I didn’t know the site to provide the cold, hard numbers for sanchise. Hopefully, since you did he will realize that he is way off base and being unrealistic.

by tinley24 on Jan 8, 2012 11:03 PM EST reply actions

Just checked that site

It looks like there are 10 guys making all the money and 43 not making a ton. The best cuts would be Hunter, Eric Smith and Mike Devito. Mike has played well, but he has a 0 signing bonus and could be cut for nothing. The 3 of those guys would represent 7.5 million in savings. If you add the fact that the Jets have Marcus Dixon, Pititua, Wilkerson playing defensive end, there is a pretty good rotation. They could also resign some veteran minimum guys like Shawn Ellis or Adam Karriker

by manuvsteal on Jan 9, 2012 1:31 PM EST reply actions

You Don't Weaken Other Parts of the Team

to fix another hole. I have no problem with cutting Hunter. Cutting Smith is questionable. He’s a good role player, just not a good starter. Pool needs to go. They can’t let all their safeties go. There’s no reason for DeVito to go. He’s not great, but is solid and is very good against the run.

If the Jets did that, how would you use the $7.5 million?

Cut Hunter and Smith...

If we need more money I would rather ask Sanchez to restructure then cut Devito…he is a really good run stuffer and we need him upfront. Smith is a good role player but too expensive at 2 million.
