2012 Wish List: Take 1

Photo

2011 is in the past, and can't get out of my head soon enough. It is time for us to be looking forward to next year. We can't just look at the draft, because the draft is influenced by free agency. We can't look at who we should pick up, unless we know who we brought back or let go. We can't afford anyone new, unless we cut ties with some people are under contract still. I have done it all. This is my first go at this. I am sure I will make a second.

More after the jump...

i think you pick mercilus and streeter too early in your draft and i’d rather j campbell over garrard but otherwise excelent

if its for you it won't pass you

by tinley24 on Jan 6, 2012 10:43 AM EST reply actions

Mercilus might go even sooner than 16

He might be this year’s Aldon Smith. Streeter has the size and speed to be on everyone’s early draft board. 6’5" sub 4.4 40 yard dash

Get busy winning or get busy losing.

by GangGreenMag on Jan 6, 2012 10:53 AM EST up reply actions

he could , but i don't see value whit him at 16

and streeter would be early 3rd round at beat . lots of other wr’s are higher up my board .
if you were going olb and wr with our first 2 picks i’d go Jeffery and curry but that’s just me .

BTW rec’d for putting in a great off season plan

if its for you it won't pass you

by tinley24 on Jan 6, 2012 11:03 AM EST up reply actions

The thing about Curry is, he is unproven against superior opponents. He dominates weak OTs, but when he faces actual NFL prospects, he is a ghost.

I have tried to watch as many Illinois games as possible. Mercilus reminds me a lot of Ware. I would hate to pass on the next huge pass rusher, only to let him fall in the lap of SD or even New England

Get busy winning or get busy losing.

by GangGreenMag on Jan 6, 2012 11:09 AM EST up reply actions

you could be right with mercilus

but i think curry will be decent in the nfl

if its for you it won't pass you

by tinley24 on Jan 6, 2012 11:12 AM EST up reply actions

Aldon Smith??? Where do you see this stuff from Mercilus?

Aldon Smith is long and athletic. He has good size, a freaky ability to change direction quickly, and extremely violent hands. I was on Smith’s jock ALL last year and watched a ton of film on him. I haven’t seen Mercilus flash anything in the vicinity of Smith.

I know this is your guy and all, but I just can’t see it. Every time I see some tape or watch him play all I see is a bull rush. He has decent athleticism, but I don’t see anything that would indicate first round. And I don’t think he’s in the same class as Upshaw.

by Crackback on Jan 6, 2012 11:11 AM EST up reply actions

I meant similar in that they are underclassmen who can jump to an early slot in the 1st.

What I see in Mercilus is the fight, and the athletic ability to battle through double teams, or dip around tackles. His motor is never ending. He also excelled against future NFL OT prospects.

Get busy winning or get busy losing.

This wouldn't be your AVG 2nd string QB job

If a vet QB is brought in at all, it is to take over if Sanchez doesn’t play to the team’s standards.

looks good

What does everyone think about Mcknight and his role next year? and how would signing someone like Michael Bush and keeping Shonn effect this? I personally would love to see him as 10 touch a game back and slide into LT’s role, I loved his explosiveness this year and think there is something there.

by Jetkid13 on Jan 6, 2012 10:51 AM EST reply actions

McKnight

I’m sorry, but I’m definitely on the McKnight bandwagon. I think if he gets ten touches a game next year, we get more 3rd down conversions. He could seriously be around change of pace back. I like the Michael Bush pick up because he can be the “every down” back, and Shonne Greene can be that ground and pound 4th quarter back once we get in the lead. They should NOT use Shonn on any type of passing downs. He has hands of stone.

Bush is the perfect insurance for Shonn, very similar...

the way they run, I don’t think either can carry the load without breaking down, but together they make one complete back, that could be unstoppable.

McKnight is the perfect compliment to them, he will never be an every down back either, but is a perfect change of pace to the other two, and a great receiver 3rd down back.

nice list

I’m sad to see LT go, he is one of my favorite football players and it would of been nice for him to leave the game with a ring. I say we should go after S mark barron from alabama in the first and OLB Vontaze Burfict in the second round. I think we could get a quality WR in the 3rd, or keep Plaxico. There is one more thing missing from this list…NEW OC!!!

Barron is a 1st/2nd round fringe guy. It would be a huge reach to take him at 16

I don’t like Burfict at all. I think if he unleashes everything he has, he will hurt us just as much help us. If he tries to play within the rules, he is totally ineffective

How about Donvan Mcnabb as a back-up…or Brady (“i can be your hero baby”) Quinn. I think Brady Quinn could be a great starter if he gets a shot. He had no one in Cleveland.

brady quinn is an interesting idea. all in all i feel pretty bad for the kid. you’re right he had no help in cleveland. and this year he was given a front row row seat to tebowmania when he was passed over. i remember people saying that he was playing really well in practice, but the fan pressure obviously made them skip him for tebow

not that i want to start a tebow discussion (please no please no), but on espn this morning they were saying if tebow was awful this weekend, brady quinn might get in. i’d be interested in seeing it.

Pretty interesting

I think I would get rid of bart scott, and get more of a backup for OT than just Ducasse. I also still think we’re too weak at OLB.

Bart Scott has 4 million guaranteed. It wouldn’t make much sense to cut him. Audie Cole would be the go to guy on passing downs. His biggest strength is his coverage game. I had us drafting Mike Ryan as a backup OT. Vlad should be asked to either restructure or be cut. I vote for being cut.

top o my list

get a new o coordinator!

but i do like your projections. I would like to upgrade the o line better than mckenzie though. if the o line gets better the whole offense will too. greene/mcknight may even be enough.

although i like michael bush, he just may ask for a lot of money and the raiders would be stupid to let him go with Run DMCs injury problems.

by RichTodd on Jan 6, 2012 11:21 AM EST reply actions

The tackle I really like in all of this is Mike Ryan. McKenzie would just be a 1 or 2 year place holder that is a hell of a lot better than anyone we have already. Mike Ryan can come in with a year under his belt, and start.

You are right, Bush might ask for too much. Either way, there are a number of good free agent RBs that could go for cheaper. They just have to be tough, North South runners.

my problems

1) I don’t want McKenzie. He’s old and having a down year. I would rather Demetrius Bell (Bills)

2) Not loving your draft. I think Mercilus is overrated. Nick Perry is gonna be the next big thing if any OLB coming out this year is. He’s gonna climb up the boards.
I would do this:
1 – Perry, OLB, USC
2 – Trumaine Johnson, CB, Montana (convert him to S maybe?)
3 – Streeter, WR, Miami
4 – Some OT
5 – George Iloka, S, Boise St
6 – Punter
7 – BPA

I don’t think someone with Streeter’s size and speed will make it out of the 2nd.

Perry had a strong finish to the season, but Mercilus is not overrated in my opinion. I was in love with this guy at the start of the season, before anyone even heard of him. I saw something in his style of play, that would be valuable for our defense. He does have a great bull rush, but you would be mistaken to think that is all he has. He has the speed and athleticism to bend around tackles, or to chase down RBs trying to make it around the corner. The guy has forced 9 fumbles. That means almost 20% of the tackles he made this year, resulted in fumbles.

by GangGreenMag on Jan 6, 2012 12:54 PM EST up reply actions

How do you feel about converting him to DE/OLB? What I’ve heard is that he’ll probably be a good 4-3 DE (Where picking him in the 1st could be legitimate) but that he doesn’t have the proper athleticism to play 3-4 OLB.

Da'Jon McKnight - WR (Minnesota) - 6'3'' 211Lbs. (5th Round)

1st Round Targets: Courtney Upshaw 3-4 OLB, Alshon Jeffery WR, David DeCastro OG, Justin Blackmon WR, Ryan Tannehill QB, Sam Montgomery 3-4 OLB

I have seen him stand up, and drop into coverage a few times. He is a matchup problem no matter how he lines up. The Jets play more 4-3 schemes these days anyway.

yep,but what abou Manning

We need a safety in the draft or free agency. Pool is one concussion away from retirement. And what about Manning, he could solve all our offenceive problems, as long as we don’t give up to much to get him and he’s healthy.

by clevjetsfan on Jan 6, 2012 11:33 AM EST via mobile reply actions

I picked up Reggie Nelson in my free agency. He is having a great year for the Bengals. He and Pool would be a good mix. If you add in Illoka in the draft for depth, we won’t be too bad off.

A new OC is paramount

And the sooner the better. Lets build around they type of offense he might install, within the limits of the roster we will keep. I would also like to see LT back. I’m wondering if he spoke out in the locker room during the season as forcefully as he did to the press post Holmes meltdown. We have lost too may vet leaders this year; if he can step up into that role, he should stay, assuming he wants to. He also does have something left and there is room to get Mcknight his share of touches as a change of pace back, or split wide in some sets. .

That's pretty cool...

…those extra picks can be our projects, considering the number of important free agents coming up in the next few years. I would like to see (for once) the top 4 or so picks go for guys that can make an impact this year.

What's the Point of Garrard?

Just to “push” Sanchez? Yes he’d do that, but A) he wants to be a starter and B) he’s not that great. Suppose Sanchez gets hurt, are you happy about Garrard moving forward? Content MAYBE, not happy.
I think a better choice is Matt Flynn. He’s a FA this year and proved without a doubt he is legit (6 TDS in 1 game). He’s never going to be a starter in GB and if Sanchez continues to suck, I’d be much happier with someone who has the chance to be a franchise QB. Garrard is a Rex Grossman, Kyle Orton, journeyman type. Not the answer vs. Tom Brady.

by mangold'sbeard on Jan 6, 2012 11:47 AM EST reply actions

Garrard has been a starter, and could be a starter. The problems he faced in Jax are not all his. He wouldn’t just be someone to push Sanchez, he would be to go to guy if Sanchez can’t cut it, or gets hurt. I would be a million time happier with Garrard than Brunell.

Flynn is going to be a hot commodity look for him to be priced out of our range.

Keep dreaming on That Flynn scenerio

GB isn’t going to give him up that easily. There FO isn’t stupid they will get something out of this. That was the whole point to letting him play that last game to put him on display for the rest of the NFL.

by JETSFAN IN SC on Jan 6, 2012 3:57 PM EST up reply actions

I’m pretty sure he’s a FA this year. Tagging him is an option but they better be dang sure they can move him.

by NordicBillsfan on Jan 6, 2012 5:29 PM EST up reply actions

pretty much agree except #1 pick.

i would definitely go Upshaw #1. 16 is a spot where we have some movement ability to make a trade either up for a higher pick, or we can move back in the first and draft Barron at S and collect another 2nd round pick to maybe get an OLB like Bruce Irvin or Lavonte David.

But im tired of the Jets passing on OLB when we desperately need them. i love Westerman, Maybin, Pace but we haven’t had a dominant pass rusher since John Abraham. offenses need to game plan around a sack master..not a CB (Revis) quarterbacks need to know “okay whose going to hit me, whose going to hit me”..not “okay dont throw to this guy, that was easy.”

by np3 on Jan 6, 2012 11:49 AM EST reply actions

+1

I agree upshaw is a nice size with both the abilty to cover and stop the run as well getting some pressure on the QB. He would almost pur Matbin as a steady backup as he could probably start right out of the box.

Jay Feely

he was awefull. I remember that game against the Falcons in 2009 season and he missed 3 easy field goals and extra point and in the AFC championship game he missed 2 50 yard field goals. Nick Folk misses field goals too but at least he scores big ones from time to time

by monaso on Jan 6, 2012 11:59 AM EST reply actions

I like the approach at RB

I have lately been missing the days where teams chased Curtis Martin for 3 quarters and then had to tackle a fresh Lamont Jordan.

I don’t think RB is a HUGE need, but it would definitely help to bring in a veteran guy for 10-15 touches. I don’t think the guy needs to be a particular type of power back, just that we make sure he isn’t going to replicate McKnight’s skillset—that would be a waste. There are plenty of options in FA—Bush would be great, but I’m not getting my hopes up.

I also would like to know what we have in Powell by the start of next season. I had moderate hopes for him as a PT player this year, but he was disappointing.

by jkoyon on Jan 6, 2012 12:00 PM EST reply actions

Waiting on RB

I think if we address some of the OL problems that the running game will improve on its own. I was never a big Greene fan but he isn’t really the big problem here he wasn’t used correctly and if the number one problem namely Shottenheiemer is fixed I believe the offence will greatly improve

by sledor on Jan 6, 2012 5:15 PM EST up reply actions

What do you think the chances are we could pry Micheal Griffin away from the Titans..

He is a UFA this year, if we paired hin with Tyvon Branch(also a UFA) our S position should go from a weekness to a huge strength. Both these guys would add a much needed speed boost to our D.

by RhodesRocks on Jan 6, 2012 12:16 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Love Branch...

…I think it will be hard to get Griffin.

It doesn’t look like a great free agent class for safeties. We should be able to get some talent, but I don’t think we will be able to get the top guy available.

by jkoyon on Jan 6, 2012 12:27 PM EST up reply actions

I’m telling you guys. Reggie Nelson from the Bengals would be a cheaper/valuable safety pick up.

Get busy winning or get busy losing.

by GangGreenMag on Jan 6, 2012 12:47 PM EST up reply actions

Nelson would be fine, he is definitely an upgrade...

I would still like to see him paired with branch, I think we keep pool as a back up and get two new starting safties. I still think Griffin pairedand branch paired with revis and cro would give us the best secondary in the NFL. Then if we addess our pass rush and the LB position in general in the draft and have rex go back to calling the plays our D would destroy.

On a side note Marrio Williams is a UFA this season. How would you guys feel about going after him if HOU doesn’t franchise him. That could solve our pass rush problem.

The RT position is what worries me most KM is a definate upgrade but there isn’t a large amount if talent at T in free agency this year. Drafting one(in round 1-3), picking up KM, and letting them duke it out in camp might be the best option.

by RhodesRocks on Jan 6, 2012 1:12 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

The thing is, I don't think we can afford a big money pick up like Williams

I would rather make a bunch of cheaper solid moves than 1 or 2 big ones, and leave everything else exposed.

also...

My favorite tackle in the draft is Mike Ryan. Right now he is a sleeper sitting in the 4th round. I have seen more out of him than 1st rounder Reiff.

by GangGreenMag on Jan 6, 2012 1:21 PM EST up reply actions

I think he would be a good value pick up in the fourth

Do you think he could challenge KM for the starting job? Also I think we need to make a big signing or two…our team is pretty devoid of playmakers, we have a lot of talent and soild guys but we lack play makers on both sides of the ball(with one or two exceptions). If there is one thing I still have faith that Tanny can do its work the cap to get us the players we need. I think we can make the salary cap work with one big signing like williams and still plug up all our holes too.
You have to admit if we added Williams to our D it badically becomes a whole new unit in the way it functions (and I think we need that change to keep our scheme fresh.)

by RhodesRocks on Jan 6, 2012 1:31 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Not good

Tenn. has like no other big time players that will be FA, actually I just checked with KFFL, and they list 3 players coming up for FA, Griffin being one of them. Tenn. also has a ton of cap space, so they will pony up to keep that D as complete, as complete can be. I just dont see him going anywhere

I think Jay Feely is on the decline and it’ll hit hard how. He was pretty poor for Arizona in 2011, not much better than Folk. I wouldn’t be against picking up Mike Nugent, he is coming off a real strong 2011 and seems to have put his injury problems behind him. Otherwise I like what you have here. by jetsmets65 on Jan 6, 2012 1:15 PM EST reply actions

As much as I love Leonhard the man and locker room guy

I don’t like him as a starting safety. It all depends on how cheap he is willing to stay for.

Get busy winning or get busy losing.

by GangGreenMag on Jan 6, 2012 1:18 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah I would love to have him as a back up...

And also catch punts for us if we don’t get someone with better hands bsck there next year. For the right price he’s an all around good back up for either S position or PR and team leader.

by RhodesRocks on Jan 6, 2012 1:42 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Yeah I would rather he finds his hands, doesnt gave fumble problems, and takes over as KR...

But its nice to know if that doesn’t happen we have a back up with soild hands.

by RhodesRocks on Jan 6, 2012 2:00 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Takes over as KR

How do you not keep Mcknight as your KR?

by jetsmets65 on Jan 6, 2012 2:24 PM EST up reply actions

I think he meant punt returner

You don't have enough cuts.

Poole, Bart Scott, and Ducasse. Sorry, but it’s time to clean the stables and recognize that either the talent has dropped off to far or never was there to begin with. I’m 50-50 on dropping Santonio as well, and right now I’m leaning toward letting him go and eating the salary.

Forget Martellus Bennett – Cowboy fans view him the way we view Mulligan – a total waste of a roster spot. And if Garrard can’t even compete for the starting job he’s not signing here. Gratkowski will probably be let go in Oakland, and I can’t see both Orton and Cassel being in KC next year. There will be better back up options at QB than a guy with a suspect back.

And I don’t love your draft either. I think Courtney Upshaw or Zach Brown are better choices in the first round. Brown is an LB that can cover TE’s – remember the division we play in. After that, who we draft will depend on which side of the ball does better in FA. The Braylon lovers will have a shot at him, Stevie Johnson is out there, so is Lynch and Bush at RB, and Vincent Jackson too.

The draft is going to be gearer

by Traveling Man on Jan 6, 2012 1:30 PM EST reply actions

Sorry - hit enter by mistake.

This draft is going to be geared to fill the needs we don’t satisfy in FA – O-line, Safeties, OLB, WR, RB, TE, veteran backup QB. All but the last COULD come from the draft, but the likelihood is, looking at this draft, is that we will focus on the defense in the draft and maybe grab a WR or RB in the later round.

by Traveling Man on Jan 6, 2012 1:33 PM EST up reply actions

I also don’t want to trust the starting safety and RT positions to rookies.

Get busy winning or get busy losing.

by GangGreenMag on Jan 6, 2012 1:38 PM EST up reply actions

Pool is a free agent
It’s not fiscally reasonable to cut Scott and Holmes. Too much dead money. That’s also dead money that we can’t use to pay people to replace them.

I would take Upshaw over Mercilus also, but Buf picks before us. Zach Brown was abused in coverage in his bowl game, and isn’t the premier pass rusher that we need. Streeter is bigger and faster than anyone we have ever had. This makes him a huge red zone presence and a deep threat.

Get busy winning or get busy losing.

by GangGreenMag on Jan 6, 2012 1:38 PM EST up reply actions

Buffalo has so many needs they don't know where to start.

And I have faith in their ability to screw it up. I see them going O-line first, given their needs there. So Upshaw should be there. Brown got abused more because of the lack of other guys on the defense stepping up – we have better corners and schemes.

I really would like us to take a run at Matt Flynn. First, it would keep him out of Miami, where he may go if Philbin gets that job. Second, it would send a message to Sanchez that he needs to win the job – handing it to him like Rex and Tanny have done gives him no incentive to improve. Third, it may make the OC job more attractive to prospective applicants. I’d even be willing to trade Sanchez for some mid-round picks if we got him, as he’s been a 4 year student of Rogers and Favre and played in a great offensive scheme and seems poised to be a breakout player in 2012. Trading the Sancheese would free up some money, and if we keep Santonio he would have a QB that does throw the ball deep.

by Traveling Man on Jan 6, 2012 1:48 PM EST up reply actions

Miami is probably going to stick with Matt Moore. Until they find a franchise guy.
I don’t know how much trade value Sanchez has, but I’m sure it’s not much.
Matt Flyn is going to be very expensive. I would steer clear of that price tag, especially since it seems like we will be keeping Sanchez.
Brown is more of a 4-3 OLBer than anything.

Get busy winning or get busy losing.

see them going O-line first, given their needs there

Out of curiosity why do you feel this way?

Da'Jon McKnight - WR (Minnesota) - 6'3'' 211Lbs. (5th Round)

1st Round Targets: Courtney Upshaw 3-4 OLB, Alshon Jeffery WR, David DeCastro OG, Justin Blackmon WR, Ryan Tannehill QB, Sam Montgomery 3-4 OLB
2nd Round Targets: Jared Crick (3-4DE & 4-3LDE), Melvin Ingram 3-4OLB, Kirk Cousins QB

I love Sanchez and want to keep him but he is going to have to rework his contract to allow us to sign more talent..

Jets cap says if we cut him we save over 9 million against the cap. This gives us some leverage to ask for a rework…if we cut him honestly how much do you think he’s going to get paid. Factor the revenue that would be lost from all the endorsement money he gets for being a starting NFL QB in NYC and he is at a threat to loose a ton of money if we cut him.

Offer him s two year extension with the rework

by RhodesRocks on Jan 6, 2012 1:46 PM EST via mobile reply actions

We aren't going to cut Sanchez

I’m sure he would re structure if he was asked to.

Get busy winning or get busy losing.

by GangGreenMag on Jan 6, 2012 1:48 PM EST up reply actions

stupid mobile phone..

*Offer him a two year extension with the rework, right now he maked over 14 mil this year and 8 mil next year. Give him the extra two years at 8 mil a piece. If you split the new cap hit(14+8+8+8) over the four years we can get to a number around 9 mil a year. That 5 mil we save this year csn be used to pick up a big ticket free agent (like mario williams UFA as I said above) or fill in 2-3 solid players to upgrade our RT and S positions to a place where they aren’t a glaring liability and dragging down the rest of the team.

by RhodesRocks on Jan 6, 2012 1:52 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Trying to find cap space is Tanny's specialty

I’m not going to even start to think of all that just yet. It’s too much of a headache. I have a feeling there will be a lot of people reworking their contracts.

Get busy winning or get busy losing.

by GangGreenMag on Jan 6, 2012 1:56 PM EST up reply actions

That is why I was saying we have leverage to rework his 2012 salary of over 14 mil..

If he gets cut he’s not going to make anywhere near 14 mil. I like him and want to keep him and as GGM said he will prob restructure to work with us.

by RhodesRocks on Jan 6, 2012 1:55 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

He already restructured once - not sure he'll do it again.

He may gamble that some QB starved team that doesn’t get one of the top QB’s in the draft will pay him the money, thinking they can succeed where the Jets failed. I could see the Shanahans’ having the ego to pick him up.

by Traveling Man on Jan 6, 2012 2:00 PM EST up reply actions

If he wont then we might have to cut him...he was the third highest paid qb this season.

He is going to have too he knows he isn’t producing numbers that can get him paid anywhere near this any where else. He got 2 mil more than Brady, 4 mil more than Eli,6 mil more than Rogers, and twice as much abd Deew Breese this year. Right now he us grossly over paid and the fact that cutting him is cap friendly puts us in the drivers seat to restructure him to slightly overpaid instead of grossly

He will do it because he is a smart guy, he knows its better to be slightly over paid here than get cut and get paid what he is worth or less somewhere else(especially with NY endorsements)

by RhodesRocks on Jan 6, 2012 2:17 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

I hope you're wrong.

I would prefer to cut him and let someone like Washington or maybe even Seattle – although Carroll has shown no love for his former USC players – pay him what he thinks he is worth.

by Traveling Man on Jan 6, 2012 3:05 PM EST up reply actions

And the Redskins are among the teams with the most cap space and flexibilty next year.

Whereas the Jets are almost dead in the water with 35 contracts that are back loaded. So even though cutting Holmes is dead money it will free up some cap space. Getting rid of Sanchez definitely does. I think it is more likely Tanny may have to rework Ferguson’s new deal. We have so little cap room that all these FA discussions may turn out to be a moot point.

by Traveling Man on Jan 6, 2012 2:22 PM EST reply actions

I'd be thrilled with that roster. But i think Michael Bush might try and get himself $$ to be a starter

Mercilus is really good, but I dont see much athelticism. I think Upshaw or Barron would be great picks for us at #16. For a FA pickup… I think the jets should pick up Braylon. Braylon, Holmes, Kerley, Streeter would be a dynamic Wr corps.

+1

I agree however what noone seems to be asking is what if we move up in the draft. What players are available at number 6 or 7 that might be worth the move? Right now we are border line. It might ne worth moving up or back a few spots for that matter

by sledor on Jan 6, 2012 5:30 PM EST up reply actions

Well the jets scout guys stress the importance of

Quality over Quantity to mr.t…we can surely benefit from having the 16th pick. If we feel buffalo is going to take upshaw, we can slide up and possibly snatch him, or we can stay put for barron. As long as we get a stud I’d be happy. Can’t wait until draft day lol.

guys i just found this amazing stat from this season

d’brick gave up more sacks than hunter .

LT D’Brickashaw Ferguson — 9.50
RT Wayne Hunter — 8.50
C Nick Mangold — 3.00
LG Matt Slauson — 2.50
RG Brandon Moore — 1.00

wonder if this can be verified ? found it on espn NY

if its for you it won't pass you

I really feel like that could've been a substantial reason for this season's fallout

not as much focus having camp at the facility, too much media attention in the area, not a real bonding experience, etc.

i just found it amazing that brick gets to the pro bowl

and hunter gets shown the door.we all know hunter was bad but i don’t think many of us would have thought d’brick gave up more sacks .
funny old game

if its for you it won't pass you

Those number are incorrect

Cimini of course making things up. Look at the correct ones on PFF. Brick was bad-but Hunter gave up more sacks, pressures and hits. Brick had a bad year but actually graded positive in pass protection. The problem with Brick is he actually graded worse as a run blocker than Hunter (!) and 3rd worst in the league at LT even though he was great in 2010 as a run blocker.

Nice Effort

I loved your FA list at first, but then I saw NUGENT!!!! No effing way. A like Dreesen, but he’s more of a receiving TE than blocking. I’d rather have Kevin Boss or David Thomas at TE, but would be happy with Dreesen.

I am not crazy about your draft at this point, but like the fact that you address the positions of need (particularly taking a potential OLB prospect in the first round, and may come around on some of the players. I haven’t watched a lot of film or done a lot of study on the draft yet.

While I definitely agree that Eric Smith should not be starting, he makes plays and has contributed 100x more to the Jets than Brodney Pool has. At least Smith hustles and tries.

Smith gets paid twice as much..

No way Eric Smith is worth 2 million dollars, decent back up or not.

by RhodesRocks on Jan 6, 2012 11:17 PM EST up reply actions

I don’t think people should get stuck on our future pass rusher being able to convert to OLBer. Our base defense might be a 3-4, but we are almost never in our base defense. We run a lot of nickel and 4-3. Our front office won’t pass on a prime pass rushing prospect because he is unproven in coverage. If he is as good as I think he is at pass rushing, why would we ever want him to drop into coverage?
