Why Rex Ryan is still in DC mode and not HC mode
After watching than waste of time press conference with Rex and Tanny something has been bugging me about something that Rex said .He said he didn't realise that there was so little team spirit .
Hold on a second , your our HC and the TEAM is your job ,not offense ,not defence , not ST but the whole friggin team . Could he not see the warning signs ?
He had a massive hint from early in the season from the guy who was seen helping Mark Sanchez in HARD KNOCKS ... no not Schotty but Joe Namath . Remember how close Joe looked to Rex and the orginisation as a whole and this year he was shot down by our HC . But why did Rex shoot Joe down?
Joe at the time was quoated as saying " It starts at the top. Coach Rex Ryan, he’s been doing a great job, getting us
to two conference championship games, but there’s one thing about the athlete:
You keep telling him how good he is, he’s going to start believing it to the
point that he may not be preparing quite the way he should. He may be losing
some respect for the other team.”
Seem like Joe was spot on but instead of taking a look at what joe was saying Rex's reply was this “I’m not going to change who I am because Joe Namath said something,” Ryan said.
“Namath can come in here, and if he can still throw, we’ll have him as a backup
quarterback.
But you know what? He doesn’t know our team. He’s on the outside.
Even though he’s a Jet, and once you’re a Jet, you’re always a Jet, but he’s on
the outside.
This last part is a very telling statement from Rex Ryan . He is saying that joe doesn't know because he isn't around the team every day .Now this is where i have the problem with Rex Ryan . The back and forth between Joe and Rex was back in September when things could have been changed for the better . Rex ended up admitting that he was more on the outside looking in . To me that is unforgivable especilly after getting a warning so early in the season .
Is this not a complete failure from our HC ? Is he really a HC or just a glorified DC wearing the HC jacket .I know the vast majority on GGN think Rex is a good HC but can we as fans let mistakes like that slide ?
I'm sure most on here have probably forgotton the back and forth between the two but who has been proved right ? Joe Namath had his finger more on the pulse of our team from the outside than Rex did from the inside , and then we as fans wonder where it all went wrong . Hunter , Smith and schotty are the main culprits for what happened but i think Rex is a lot bigger part of the problem than most of us realise . Unless Rex changes his stubborn ways of doing thing then we are screwed . Maybe this will happen but just to remind you what Rex said
“I’m not going to change who I am because Joe Namath said something"
Lets hope he does change because if he doesn't Schotty could be our new HC

I disagree.
Rex Ryan is the Head Coach. He controls the team. I love Joe Namath, but he doesn’t have the Head Coaching jacket.
I don't care what people say about me and i will keep doing what i enjoy.
And,
Rex came in with a 9-7 team, COMPLETELY turned the Defense around to the best in the NFL, and got us to an AFC Championship with an average Quarterback.
I don't care what people say about me and i will keep doing what i enjoy.
My bad.
TWO AFC Championships.

ask yourself this
would we have had the no1 defence if rex was DC? if the answer is yes then he hasn’t do a great HC job just a great DC job
if its for you it won't pass you
I did ask myself this.
And we still wouldn’t have the best Defense in the NFL with Rex as DC. The DC makes it better, but you would still have more power and plus, Pettine is a good DC already without Rex, and now you combine the powers of both those Defensive minds and what do you get? And like i said before, you get more power on Offense and Defense as a HC.
I don't care what people say about me and i will keep doing what i enjoy.
2 AFC championship games
To say AFC Championships denotes that we won those games

How many great Coordinaters were horrible HC's ?
Head Coach requires a different skill set, Rex needs to grow into this job or he is gone. The Head Coach is not the players Best Friend, he is the face of the franchise, that sets standards, demands excellance and obtains results. You can’t Micro Manage, but as a Head Coach you are responsible for every facet of your team, so don’t tell me you didn’t know, it’s your job to know.
i agree rex hasn't been a great hc
as the hc, you have to make sure both sides are running well, and one side is not. as the hc, you got to take responsibility. if it’s not working, which it is not, you as the hc have to realize it’s time to try another oc. lets hope he figures it out before it is to late and he’s going to be looking for a job too

Weeb Ewbank
Until Rex wins us a Super Bowl it’s still Ewbank. Currently Rex is better than Parcells as far as Jet head coaches are concerned.

This offseason here, I think will determine if he is a complete head coach or not.
Because some tough decisions need to be made.
Rex has said throughout the years
that he’s still “learning” as a HC. Which is fine. But the learning curve better be pretty damn steep. I think a lot of his HC issues stem from the fact that he created a leadership vacuum in the locker room. You can’t be a HC and control the team alone, ESPECIALLY when you don’t know one side of the ball as well as the other. You need people to delegate some of that supervision and authority to. And I obviously don’t mean just coordinators/assistants.
I think Rex and Tanny underestimated how much they needed those leadership guys and Rex may have gotten too accustomed to having them around – and took for granted that the locker room would take care of itself.
