In a Change of Pace, Here's Some Bad News

Guys I just heard from one of my best friends that Schotty’s family has already relocated to Tennessee. One of my friend’s co-worker’s cousin is Schotty’s family nanny and she was informed recently that the family will be moving from NJ to Tennessee and that if she wants to continue working for them – she has to move to Tennessee.

This sounds like the Jets have already informed Schotty that he will not be back with the team. Why else would his family move to Tennessee and force the nanny to relocate as well?

where I would consider almost anyone but Schotty and Cavanaugh.

I know that it would never, ever, ever, ever happen, but I would take Mangini as OC in a heartbeat over Schotty.

And I know that some people don’t like Mike Martz, but he’s free now and the guy only has the greatest offense in the history of the NFL on his resume.

Also, I’d love Rich Gannon for QB coach.

Why would a high profile coach take the OC job with the Jets. You have an offensive line that sucks. A QB that can’t throw down field. A QB that can only see the primary receiver or the running back on a swing pass. A head coach that has passion, but is a poor judge of talent.
Receivers that can’t get open, and shoot from the hip. A GM that can’t pick players without the help of Mangini

Gotta hand it to a guy who is not really good at what he does and is able to hold do one of the best jobs in the world…there are only 32 HC’s and only ONE in Sand Diego—if you have never been there, its nice.

I believe it’s the whole not making him look bad because of the potenial for head coach, yadda, yadda….

BUT I think they aren’t worried about losing out on candidates because I think Calahan is going to get the job. He has no contract. BUT hasn’t been relieved. I think if Schotty gets a head coach, they hire Bill as the OC…if Schotty doesn’t get a job, they fire Schotty and hire Bill…

They have a pretty good fall back plan.

I’m in the minority, but I think Schotty is gone and the O will be fixed next year. Sanchez as well.

Clearly I’m not as down on Martz as some.

It seems that there are two knocks against Martz, so let me address them.

The first argument is that the Jets lack both a QB and the athletic receivers necessary to execute a Martz offense. I agree that these are problems. I’m just not sure that Sanchez’ limitations and a less than elite receiver corps are bigger problems in a Martz offense than any other.

Second, and possibly more problematic, Martz allegedly gets his QB’s killed.

My response is that, other than RT (which hopefully the Jets will address in the offseason), the Jets have a better OL than the Bears.

Also, Martz already adjusted the Bears offense before Cutler went down. He put more emphasis on the run game and he adjusted the offense to give Cutler more protection on pass plays. Unlike Schotty, I think that Martz can learn from experience. I would never hire Martz without discussing his willingness to back off a bit from the complex routes in order to protect Sanchez and to run the ball more. But if Martz indicated a willingness to gameplan around Sanchez’ limitations and safety, I wouldn’t hesitate to hire him.

My sense is that the “philosophical differences” between Martz and Bears management had less to do with “pass v. run” and more to do with “$ vs. $$$”. IOW, I think that Martz thought that Bears ownership lacked a financial commitment to winning. If the Jets could convince Martz that they were looking for an OC to take the Jets to the SB and willing to spend on the personnel to get there then I think that Martz could adjust his offense to fit the Jets players.

One last thing. I’ve heard Martz take more interest in the importance of Cutler’s footwork and mechanics, even though Cutler was a relative veteran, than I ever heard Schotty wrt to Sanchez.

Maybe he will be the coach of Vandy or U of Tenn

At least, not yet, though we might be on our way to becoming them. Stuck underperforming forever :(

you want but all i’ve read and seen is that Holmes was good at practice. He would stay after and work with guys. IDK

unfortunatly , i don’t see Holmes going any where with his cap number to count about 9 million. I think the jets may give offensive line coach Callahan the OC job. Biggest need on offense is R Tackle, and I would bring in another TE. After watching Luck play, I would love for them to trade Sancez and a couple number one picks to the colts for that first round pick . ,..but i know i’m just dreaming.

letting Scott and Holmes go will cost BIG$$$$..Scott is 100% Guarnateed 4 mil..Holmes another 7.5Mil…u fire shotty u owe Him 2 yrs salary,why? because they always have a clause if fired b/4 a certain period..example if Shotty does het Jags job, Jags Have to compensate jets for His remaining 2 yrs!!!..will Woody actually be wiling to dish out 11.5 million to be rid of Scott and Holmes, but be hit with another 9 million CAP!!!!..Jets are baiscally screwed because of those 2 contracts….Scott even said He doesnt Care if He comes back BECAUSE Jets still have to pay Him HIS 4 Million!!!!..Blame FO for those contract “deals”!!!
