In a Change of Pace, Here's Some Bad News
According to Chargers.com, San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner and general manager AJ Smith will both return to the team for the 2012-13 season, per team president and chair Dean Spanos.
"Bottom line, I believe these two men give us the best chance to get back to the playoffs," Spanos said. "A.J. Smith is the best man to improve our roster, and Norv Turner is the best man to lead that roster on the field.
I don't necessarily disagree about Norv, but I never really thought of Smith as a good or especially competent GM. After this season however, I am hardly in any position to be criticizing any other teams managers. But for now, never mind how I personally feel about the FO staff of AFC West teams. The implications of this non-move on our beloved Jets is immediately clear.
Turner was one of two prominent names according to recent "sources" that the Jets would consider sacking Brian Schottenheimer for, the other being former HC and Quarterback guru Josh McDaniels. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and assume the Jaguars don't bite their own leg off and hire Schotty. That nixes two of three possibilities.
Some believe that Schottenheimer is as good as done and everything to the contrary is merely diplomacy or lip service. Here's hoping, but one of the options the Jets were allegedly leaning toward over B.S. is officially off the table.

NOT MCDANIELS!!!!
Our offense needs a coach they will respect not a guy who is younger then some of them.
Plus I dont really see Turner wanting to work for rex.
I agree
but if you’re choosing to believe the most preliminary sources that Schotty is done (and many believe he is), then one of the big names the Jets were floating as a replacement is gone.
I didn’t think it would have worked myself.

Step Back From the Schotty Ledge
Guys I just heard from one of my best friends that Schotty’s family has already relocated to Tennessee. One of my friend’s co-worker’s cousin is Schotty’s family nanny and she was informed recently that the family will be moving from NJ to Tennessee and that if she wants to continue working for them – she has to move to Tennessee.
This sounds like the Jets have already informed Schotty that he will not be back with the team. Why else would his family move to Tennessee and force the nanny to relocate as well?

There is no better source of information than the help. And if the nanny has been dismissed because the family is moving to Tennessee – says to me that he is not going to be back with the Jets.
So while you choose to monitor tweets from media types who never know until the story breaks – I will listen to what my friend heard from the nanny.

How long has the nanny been working for the Shotty’s?
Was this a permanent home or do the Shotty’s have a vacation home in Tennessee?

Yes, while I wait for updates from reporters you'll rely on the friends co-workers cousin who was supposedly just fired

I got the real scoop
My sister-in-law’s cousin’s friend’s lawyer is Schotty’s wife’s attorney and she’s divorcing Schotty and moving to Tennessee. Something about not being able to respect a man who has Sanchez drop back 64 times a game, doesn’t understand Wayne Hunter needs a TE to help block and can’t teach Mulligan to go on the proper snap count.
Norv and McDaniels
are just the two marquee names out there. I have a feeling people with more of an insider knowledge of the availability of numerous OCs and offensive assistants around the league know there are far more than two possible choices. I think the first poster is right that Norv would not want to work under Rex, even if he WASN’T staying in SD.
Also, it sounds like a pretty convoluted rumor chain (going through co-workers and cousins and all), but it’d be pretty awesome if the nanny news was the way that GGN broke the “Schotty is fired” story. LOL
^
that’d be great lmao

I'm at the point
where I would consider almost anyone but Schotty and Cavanaugh.
I know that it would never, ever, ever, ever happen, but I would take Mangini as OC in a heartbeat over Schotty.
And I know that some people don’t like Mike Martz, but he’s free now and the guy only has the greatest offense in the history of the NFL on his resume.
Also, I’d love Rich Gannon for QB coach.
I think Gannon would be a fantastic QB coach
question is, would he be willing to take the job?

This
Martz doesn’t allow his QBs to audible, no matter how the D is lined up. and add to that alot of 5 and 7 step drops – if we think Sanchez was shellshocked this year, imagine how catatonic he’d be in that system.
Besides, i thought i heard somewhere Martz is considering a head coaching gig in college.

No audibles might be a problem if the Jets get Peyton Manning. Until then…
i don't think the Jets can afford to get Peyton
whoever gets him has to give up a kings ransom to get him. and the Jets FO has invested too much into Sanchez to give up on him after 3 years. however, i think next season is ‘do or die’ for the Sanchize.

Yeah.
Take last year for instance… it was special teams. It was spectacularly bad. Like… the level of badness was literally something to stand in awe of. That doesn’t happen often.
You know...
I’m not even sure our offense is that bad. Their special teams last year was like… legendarily bad.

Suicide mission
Why would a high profile coach take the OC job with the Jets. You have an offensive line that sucks. A QB that can’t throw down field. A QB that can only see the primary receiver or the running back on a swing pass. A head coach that has passion, but is a poor judge of talent.
Receivers that can’t get open, and shoot from the hip. A GM that can’t pick players without the help of Mangini
Really? You’re right the O line sucks, but how can you be so blind as to not realize how that effects the passing game? If the O Line can’t hold a block for more than 3 seconds, how are you going to have a deep passing game or be able to go through a full set of progressions? Please, stop blaming Sanchez for things that aren’t his fault. Now, if you want to talk about some poor decisions he’s made, that’s another story, but even those can be attributed (partially at least) to having to rush because his O line is a sieve.

Arm chair GM. Mod/contributing writer at SBN Jets blog GGN.

My issue is...
All I have is a Sanchez jersey and, I have to be honest, I’m not always happy about wearing it. I got a coupon in the mail to get a jersey from a local store here in Las Vegas so my choices were Sanchez and Revis. Revis was in the midst of his holdout so… I went with Sanchez.
Bonus here
Ryan said he expects Schottenheimer would explore all opportunities to become a head coach, whether it be at the pro or college level.
“I think he’s going to take the opportunity to interview for head coaching jobs this year, I don’t think there’s any doubt about that,” Ryan said.
Ryan said he is “really not sure” if what offensive consultant Tom Moore’s role will be with the team moving forward . He said Moore did an “outstanding job,” and he would love to keep Moore around.

My theory on why BS is still here...
I believe it’s the whole not making him look bad because of the potenial for head coach, yadda, yadda….
BUT I think they aren’t worried about losing out on candidates because I think Calahan is going to get the job. He has no contract. BUT hasn’t been relieved. I think if Schotty gets a head coach, they hire Bill as the OC…if Schotty doesn’t get a job, they fire Schotty and hire Bill…
They have a pretty good fall back plan.
I’m in the minority, but I think Schotty is gone and the O will be fixed next year. Sanchez as well.
Mike Martz? Maybe.
Clearly I’m not as down on Martz as some.
It seems that there are two knocks against Martz, so let me address them.
The first argument is that the Jets lack both a QB and the athletic receivers necessary to execute a Martz offense. I agree that these are problems. I’m just not sure that Sanchez’ limitations and a less than elite receiver corps are bigger problems in a Martz offense than any other.
Second, and possibly more problematic, Martz allegedly gets his QB’s killed.
My response is that, other than RT (which hopefully the Jets will address in the offseason), the Jets have a better OL than the Bears.
Also, Martz already adjusted the Bears offense before Cutler went down. He put more emphasis on the run game and he adjusted the offense to give Cutler more protection on pass plays. Unlike Schotty, I think that Martz can learn from experience. I would never hire Martz without discussing his willingness to back off a bit from the complex routes in order to protect Sanchez and to run the ball more. But if Martz indicated a willingness to gameplan around Sanchez’ limitations and safety, I wouldn’t hesitate to hire him.
My sense is that the “philosophical differences” between Martz and Bears management had less to do with “pass v. run” and more to do with “$ vs. $$$”. IOW, I think that Martz thought that Bears ownership lacked a financial commitment to winning. If the Jets could convince Martz that they were looking for an OC to take the Jets to the SB and willing to spend on the personnel to get there then I think that Martz could adjust his offense to fit the Jets players.
One last thing. I’ve heard Martz take more interest in the importance of Cutler’s footwork and mechanics, even though Cutler was a relative veteran, than I ever heard Schotty wrt to Sanchez.
martz would be a big upgrade
if he can turn Kurt Warner into an mvp he can do it with Sanchez i bet. i dont know if he would work well with Rexs philosophy nut id take him over Schotty.
norv turner was never going to come here after what Rex said about his team a few weeks ago….
There was never a real issue with rex and norv
that was just way overblown by the media. they talked to each other and sorted it out.
schott
Maybe he will be the coach of Vandy or U of Tenn

Say what
you want but all i’ve read and seen is that Holmes was good at practice. He would stay after and work with guys. IDK
unfortunatly , i don’t see Holmes going any where with his cap number to count about 9 million. I think the jets may give offensive line coach Callahan the OC job. Biggest need on offense is R Tackle, and I would bring in another TE. After watching Luck play, I would love for them to trade Sancez and a couple number one picks to the colts for that first round pick . ,..but i know i’m just dreaming.
Being that everyone wants holmes gone. If the eagles put the tag on D Jax, I say we trade Holmes to Philly for him. I know a lot of you thing hes a big bitch like Holmes, but how would you feel if your team signed every top FA and ignored you. You would be pretty upset too. I love me some D Jax. The only thing that I would miss is him destroying the giants. Lol

Gotta be gone!!!
Shotty
Scott
Smith
Holmes
Folk
Conley
Mulligan
Ducasse
Hunter
Mr. T -you have 3 years work to do in one. That is what happens when you have 2 awful drafts and you lose rolling the dice on Holmes.
I say ur wrong on 2 players
letting Scott and Holmes go will cost BIG$$$$..Scott is 100% Guarnateed 4 mil..Holmes another 7.5Mil…u fire shotty u owe Him 2 yrs salary, why? because they always have a clause if fired b/4 a certain period..example if Shotty does het Jags job, Jags Have to compensate jets for His remaining 2 yrs!!!..will Woody actually be wiling to dish out 11.5 million to be rid of Scott and Holmes, but be hit with another 9 million CAP!!!!..Jets are baiscally screwed because of those 2 contracts….Scott even said He doesnt Care if He comes back BECAUSE Jets still have to pay Him HIS 4 Million!!!!..Blame FO for those contract “deals”!!!
Yep....
on Holmes certainly. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do. And isn’t that 7.5 mil worse case scenario if no one wants him? Regarding cap – Sanchez was willing to restructure to get him, but they did not have to. I think he would be more than willing to restructure to get rid of him.
Scott is probably here is a backup if they cannot move him.
Ducasse should be cut unless it pays to keep him as a warm body.
I think something can be worked out with Shotty if he does not get HC job at Jags or a college – demotion?
kickers will at least have to compete unless there is a FA to be had straight up.
I think you may be underestimatiing Woody’s ability and willingness to eat dollars. And also the ability to manipulate cap.
