Oh yeah, I've seen him (play). I know all about him," he said, convincingly. "That guy is a great football player."
Rex Ryan comments on Trent Richardson to the Pensacola New Journal
I honestly think that Richardson is a top 10 talent, and could even go #4 to the Bucs is they decide that a combination of Blount and Richardson is too hard to turn down. The article makes this suggestion but also suggests that it wouldn't be a shock for him to slide based on longevity.

NO RUNNING BACKS IN THE FIRST ROUND FOR THE LOVE OF NANCY PLEASE.

Would you not take him even if, by some tremendous fluke, he fell to our pick and we didn’t have to trade up?

A running back? Really? With all of our other problems? Guess we can forget about problems on the pass rush, and safety, and both lines, and LB; so long as you add a 1st round RB.
I’m not interested, but it’s the sort of asinine move the Jets FO would make. Personally speaking no matter how “explosive” they are, an RB is an RB and a dime a dozen, let alone a prospect. Blech.

Completely agree
First of all, Bro Namath is absolutely right with everything he said, so I won’t repeat it.
Second, I’m not convinced Richardson will even be a good pro! He was good IN COLLEGE on the best team in the NCAA. That is a far cry from being good in the NFL. Personally, I don’t like his size. Speed may win you games in college, but in the NFL everyone is fast. You need power. You need to be like Ray Rice or Maurice Jones-Drew. Maybe not blazingly fast, but powerful and hard to tackle.

There is something to be said for taking the best player available. We could address the pass rush in the 2nd round, RT in the 3rd and our other issues in the later rounds and free agency.
Personally I prefer Reiff, Coples or Mercilus. But I wouldn’t be heartbroken if we took Richardson.

If he falls to us i'll take him
i don’t wanna trade up for ANYONE. I still think we don’t really need to take a 1st round back, but i won’t complain if this guy’s a Jet next year.
Cool
Let’s saddle up this stalion and ground & pound.

I wouldn't mind getting him in the 1st if he fell. I won't reach for him though.
That being said if someone offers to break the bank to get him with a 1st swap and a 3rd I could live with that too
And the home of the .... JETS!!!
Now lets get a G-D snack!!!

Richardson, Greene and McKnight would be too much invested in one position.
Not saying we necessarily shouldn’t take Richardson if we get the chance. If we do, it may be worthwhile to see if Greene can bring back sufficient value.
Or at least, Sparano has to be willing to use Joe M in a variety of ways, he’d make a really interesting weapon if used together with Greene or Richardson once in a while, where there is a threat of him going out as a receiver or catching behind the line in a sort of run-around, could be an interesting wrinkle.
Ultimately though, the Jets will need to find a way to fill a variety of needs, and the 16th overall pick needs to be put to good use. Having all 3 and using them conventionally doesn’t seem like it would realise maximum value from that pick.
I'd love to get this beast.
Not getting my hopes up though. Would rather get someone like Reiff to be fair. Richardson is clearly the better talent, but backs don’t last long and we have bigger needs.
you can always find someone to play running back

True, but who wouldn’t rather have Adrian Peterson than Shonn Greene.
