Too many reasons that effect it.
I think iv'e finally snapped. This is the post that i will use to try to convince the Peyton Manning to Jets encouragers to stop. I know people have been making posts about it, but i will make just one where everyone can ignore the positives and look at the negatives for just a quick second.
Lets get started off with one of the obvious reasons. He's 36. Before the 2009 draft, do you remember that? It was either get a QB from the draft or Kellen Clemens would start. If we get Manning, then we will be in that same position in 1 or 2 years. And that Kellen Clemens would be Greg McElroy. I'm saying this because if we get Manning, Sanchez is gonna go. So this would just put us in a very screwed up QB hole, and with all these position problems, assuming that they won't all be fixed in 1 or 2 years, just doubles the nightmares we are having now.
Major neck surgery? I'm no doctor, but i think i'm smart enough to know that tangled roots and nerves in the neck and spine don't make you a better Quarterback. Yes, he got surgery, i know. But this is probably gonna cause him to throw differently. I GUARANTEE that their will be another thing related to this to push him back in the middle of the season. And who exactly will we have to start at QB then?
Now, the 08-09 season. Yea, i loved those first 11 games. I didn't enjoy the last 5 very much. You could make an argument that Brett Favre wasn't as good as Peyton Manning. And no, he wasn't even close to being as good as him. But he came off a year in the NFC Championship and relatively healthy. I mean guys, we watched a year of that and now we still want Peyton Manning? Yea, ok. Let's just go 9-7 and pray that the AFC becomes weak and we can sneak into the playoffs just to lose in the Wild Card round.
See, there is this little thing called cap space, and since we need a RT, LB, WR, SS,( we probably wont resign Leohnard at SS ), FS, and an HB, then i would definitely keep an above average QB in Sanchez at the starting QB position and upgrade those other 6 positions i just named instead of blowing LITERALLY ALL of our money on a 3 year at best person who we don't know is healthy or not. Too low on cap space to do that. Wayyyyy to risky.
Hopefully this helps convince you a little more to not get Peyton Manning.

The only way.....
I’ll want Manning to come to this team if Sanchez restructures his contract and we pay both of them 6 million this year. We cannot afford anything more because we have other needs. I don’t like Sanchez as a QB but I rather trade this year draft away for a top rookie QB than to see we cut him and sign Manning.
Another idea, Holmes should offer to redo his contract for Manning also since he’s not satisfied with Sanchez.
Born a Jet. Die a Jet. On XBOX Madden 2012. I Play like a Jet!!!
Why should they restructure their contract? What is in it for them?
They are not fans, this is their business.
Sanchez is not above average.
Its unknown what Peyton will play for. If the doctors clear him, he’s healthy.
Take a team that’s made it deep into the playoffs without a QB and add a QB whose team can hardly win a game without him and you get a pretty freakin good shot at getting to the dance.

Well said
I hate getting well past their prime players, but it seems my sports teams always do it (Jets, Knicks, Mets). Maybe, if these idiots learn how to draft right, they wouldn’t need to upgrade so many positions this off season.
Past his prime....
Over the past 4 years that Manning played, what has he done to show you that hes past his prime? Leadings his team to a superbowl? Having amazing stats year after year?
I know hes coming off a major injury, but if hes cleared theres no reason to think he can’t go 4-5 more years.
by BringBackNamath on Jan 31, 2012 9:00 AM EST up reply actions
I think 4-5 years is very over stating it
A guy like favre and Testeverde who played based upon arm stregnth lasted longer than most. Manning is injured and the injury suffered effects arm stregnth. I can’t see him lasting too long if he even returns.

I love how we are all of a sudden doctors.
Manning has taken far less of a beating than Favre and Testeverde throughout his career.
I’m glad you can’t see him lasting too much longer….state your credentials next time that back up your medical opinions.
If Manning is fully healed, and I understand thats an IF, he has the skills and ability to continue playing. We aren’t talking a random player, we are talking about PEYTON MANNING. All he needs is a solid O-line and he will be back to destroying defenses.

Well, Doc, I was speaking historically rather than medically but...
And I’m on a blog and not in a medical journal. Manning at 35-36 to play for 4-5 more years would play continually for more years than 99% of all QBs in history. 39-41 years is ancient history in the NFL. Sure he may be better than 99% of all QBs in history. But I specifaclly mentioned two strong arms in NFL history who lasted longer than most and compared it to a guy who is suffereing from a nerve injured weakened arm. Marino and Elway, how old were they when they were done? Favre was what 41? But the guy had a record setting arm STRENGTH. Testeverde? He didn’t play that much in his later years but his arm was strong enough to allow him value in later years. Peyton is about technique and smarts. If he can’t throw darts and is 40 years old, what is he? The answer is retired.

Hopefully this convinces no one to not look into Peyton
You need an elite QB in this league to win Super Bowls, unless you have a truly SPECIAL defense (which has almost been legislated out of football. Counting backwards, it’s been Rodgers, Brees, Ben, Eli, Peyton, Ben, Brady, Brady, Johnson (special defense, also was a Pro Bowler in 02), Brady, Dilfer (arguably the best defense ever), Warner, Elway, Elway, Favre, Aikman, Young, Aikman, Aikman, Rypien. With 3 exceptions, those are all great QBs who proved to be elites in the league. You are going to leave it up to chance that a guy who made no real strides outside of volume pass stats and red zone efficiency to turn elite?
Of course there are downsides. Thats why you give him a physical, work him out, talk to his agent, give him the process medically. If the Jets don’t try to pursue Peyton F***ING Manning when their starting QB is Mark Sanchez, the organization isn’t doing what they can to win a championship.

Maybe they shouldn't get Manning, but if these are two major factors in your argument?
but i will make just one where everyone can ignore the positives and look at the negatives
above average QB in Sanchez
only thing more overated and soft than osi umenyora is the 2011 eagles
Iman Shumpert is a first ballot hall of famer

No, the major factors are:
He’s 36
Major neck surgery?
the 08-09 season.
See, there is this little thing called cap space,
Those are my four major factors.
The Jets will win the Super Bowl one day and that will be the day i laugh in your face if your not a Jets fan.
Also, he can be above average when he's not throwing it 50 times a game.
Which he wont with the ground and pound back.
The Jets will win the Super Bowl one day and that will be the day i laugh in your face if your not a Jets fan.
the thing is manning is twice the player farve was
his reading of defences is the best around . and regarding the other holes we have , we could still fill them in the draft .
the only way i see this working is if we trade sanchez for a couple of extra picks ( 3rd and 4th ) and maybe with those extra picks we could fill two more needs
either way there are some positive’s if he came here but i think the chances it happens are slim

Just wanted to show some negatives.

Funny the negatives are coming from a guy whose nickname is “sanchize 6”…..

That's not really true
could you argue that Manning is the better QB, sure! But Manning is experiencing the same thing Favre did, just substantially earlier in his career. They are both former studs whose health pushed them out.

i think the proof at how good manning is can be seen this year . without him they went from potential SB champs to having the worst record in the league .
manning is the best QB ever , but that’s just me

Do people forget the year favre had AFTER he left New York? Oh yea….NFC championship game, 12-4, 33 TD’s 7 INTs…..
Maybe it didn’t work out on the Jets becuase we had a shitty coordinator and coach, and Favre barely had a training camp with us.

what team will give u those picks
seriously what team would give those picks-up?..what Jets really need too do is draft players that can play more then 1 position!!!!!..look at Giants front 4..all can play each other;s positions…Ne drafted a player who can play all Off line positions but center, also can play TE….getting players like these type allows a team to build upon….so when a player is hurt u have a player who can shift 1 position and cover….how many teams have players who play special teams, yet also play as WR;s, or can play QB?….N.O….GB…Steelers..NE…Giants… not all have those that can play QB but can play more than 1 position…this is what Jets Need..what they need to build there drafts choices on..
considering what the cards and chiefs gave up for their QB's a 3rd and 4th is chump change
there are at least 8 teams who could potentially be in the market for a STARTING QB and there are only 2 in the draft . Flynn and Henne are probably the only potential FA QB’s who you could starters so that could leave 4 teams looking for an upgrade . a 3rd and 4th is a lot less to give up than using a 2nd on a average guy in the draft that wouldn’t be considered a starter so if sanchez was up on the block i would be the farm we would get at least that .
indy
browns
skins
fins
seahawks
titans
chief’s
49ers
they are the teams i see that would be looking to upgrade thier QB and you could also add denver to that list

not to get all crazy about grammar and all
but its “too many reasons that affect it” not “effect it”. sorry that particular thing is a pet peeve of mine (particularly if its in the title)
otherwise i think it’s a fair analysis. i personally wanna stay far far away from favre manning

Woody
is a star chaser so this chatter is no surprise. He is every bit as dumb as Dan Snyder or Jerry Jones. The best thing for us would be for Peyton to retire because I want no part of this circus.
