This should happen
Braylon cant have many options at this point and he played well with the Jets. Since the cost should be low I see little to no downside to signing him.

Rex did hint that we missed his presence throughout the season.
I think the jets should sign him to a cheap contract with incentives.

Wildcard vs. Colts
Right before he had that great catch to set up the winning field goal. I remember it like it was yesterday. He knew we won before anyone else.
I really don't want him back but I'd be ok with cheap, incentive laden deal is acceptable
I’m just worried that we’ll sign Bray and say “well, we’re good now, no need to try to find a long term #1”. Even though we very much need one.

Santonio isnt a #1?

No, and he never has been.
He’s always had somebody to take the heat off him like Hines Ward or Braylon

Isnt that the way it works?
Any effective #1 in the game has someone to compliment his game.

True, I should have phrased better.
He needs somebody to keep the heat off him, because he’s mostly invisible without it. With no deep threat to respect defenses took him out of games for good chunks of time. A true #1 doesn’t need that kind of support and can consistently make plays.

I know Holmes is public enemy number 1 right now
And I’m not a fan of the way he carried himself but I totally get what his frustration is. There were tons of times the guy was wide open down field and Sanchez decided to check down. I know some have come out saying this guy was all about his stats but I’m wondering if Sanchez deliberately avoided throwing to Holmes. There were plenty of weeks(trust me, I owned Holmes in fantasy) where Holmes was non existent on the stat sheet.
Also if you look at any of the true #1s, they have QBs that can throw down the field. Pennington couldnt but he had WRS that excelled at gaining YAC.

I agree completely here
Holmes, I think, has a legitimate point, he just went about presenting it the worst possible way. There were maybe a dozen or more times throughout the season he was clearly open or had the corner beat and Sanchez wasn’t even looking. I don’t know if it was more Schotty or Sanchez, but something needs to be done about that. For better or worse, Santonio was our biggest offensive play maker and he was targeted only 101 times. That’s not how you use your best weapon.
Even if it was Schotty, Sanchez cant take it upon himself to throw down the field to a wide open WR?
I know Schotty was the fall guy but I have a feeling there is a lot more to whats going on between these two guys. Im betting the locker room is split but only the guys that have come out are anti Holmes.
Should you choose to test my resolve in this matter, you will be facing a finality beyond your comprehension, and you will not be counting days, or months, or years, but milleniums in a place with no doors.
Sanchez and Holmes had horrible chemistry all year...
Sanchez and Santonio didn’t seem on the same page all year…a lot if times throwing the ball to holmes earlier in the year (when he still was tossing balls his way) Sanchez would seem to think Holmes was going to run a different route. Sanchez would throw the ball to a spot and holmes would be open in a different one. I’m guessing this created alot of frustration for both players. Holmes would be frustrated because he got open and Sanchez would be frustrated because he expected holmes to run a certain route and be in a certain spot where he threw the ball, but holmes wasn’t there.
Holmes started taking plays off towards the end of the season and Sanchez stopped throwing him the ball…which came first I’m really not sure, but it would be interesting to rewatch the games and get a feel for how things degenerated to the point they were at towards the end od the season.
From personally watching the games I noticed this confusion happen often on the kill kill calls that completely change the play. This is a part of Schotty’s system I for one will not miss at all. What I’m hoping will fix it is the getting rid of Schotty’s, pretty muxh by all accounts, overly complicated playbook. Hopefully in a less complicated system the two will both know their respective responsibility and will be able to get on the same page.
So in a way…yeah I do blame Schotty for this…

I've said it before and I'll say it again...
The right combination of talent beats the raw sum of individual talent all day long in football—from players up to coaches.
You want him to throw it from his back? Deep routes take at least 4 seconds to develop. More often than not, Hunter couldn’t hold a block for more than 2.
by struckanerve9 on Jan 25, 2012 12:49 PM EST up reply actions
Well what I'm saying has nothing to do with how he carries himself
And for the record I agree he has every reason to be frustrated with incompetence and losing, (and even J-Co said he was a good teammate) but if you look back he’s always had a Hines Ward or Braylon Edwards taking pressure away from him. He’s not as good as advertised without a decent WR corps to help him out.
"Chrebet is magic!"
by NYJALLFINGDAY on Jan 25, 2012 2:52 AM EST up reply actions
Huh?
When was Holmes open down field again? Did we watch the same games? What I saw was Sanchez almost always had a guy in his face after 2 seconds and had to hurry his throws. Garbage protection = fewer passes to WRs. If you look back to 2010, Sanchez threw deep quite often because he had two things, an OL that could give him time to wait for the deep routes to develop and a receiver who could stretch the field.
by struckanerve9 on Jan 25, 2012 12:48 PM EST up reply actions
Go back and watch the games over
There were plenty of times where Sanchez dumped it off quickly rather than throwing down field. The OLine had some bad games but lets not act like Mark was playing behind the same line Kellen Clemens got to work with in his days as the starter.
Its sickening how much leeway Sanchez gets around here. Im not ready to kick him to the curb but do you guys watch the games? Since coming into the league, he leads the league in fumbles and INTs. But its Schottys fault. No, its Cavanaghs fault. No, its Wayne Hunters fault. Oh wait, I meant Matt Mulligan. Nope, it was Santonio’s fault. Oh wait, it mightve been Brunells fault. Ever once think, maybe its not all of them, but maybe its Sanchez?
Should you choose to test my resolve in this matter, you will be facing a finality beyond your comprehension, and you will not be counting days, or months, or years, but milleniums in a place with no doors.
People say this, but the truth is, it worked the other way. Hines Ward may have been #1 on the depth chart but if you actually watched any Steeler games in their SB year and the year after, you saw defenses make him the #1 priority and leave Ward single-covered.

Lemme guess, he isnt but Braylon is?

Braylon is only 28 so he could give us a good 4 years or so..
Maybe more…we have to see how he comes back from the injury. But if he is back to 100% I think giving him a 2-3 year deal that is cheap but full of incentives so that if he performs he gets paid would be good for everyone.

look at Sanchez on this play. He definitely scans the whole field before delivering the strike.
How did this kid actually regress, to the joke that he is considered today?
by Clarke W. Griswald on Jan 25, 2012 11:36 AM EST up reply actions
Well...
The O-line fell apart and our offense’s collective sphincter tightened up. When you play “not to lose” instead of “to win” you lose. That’s what we’ve done. Exploit the gunslinger and drop the “game manager” bullshit. If they wanted a game manager they should have just grabbed someone with experience and proven mediocrity like Rex Grossman or something.
Who the hell TRADES UP to draft a “franchise” game manager?
Jets wanted to make a splash at the draft
They had a brash new coach and were trying to sell PSL’s. Before recently, rookie QBs werent expected to make their mark in year number 1, but when Flacco and Ryan came right in and went to the playoffs, things started to change a bit.
I think the feeling with Sanchez was that he would manage the game and lean on the defense and running game to get by until he developed. That worked fine the first two years obviously but it seems Mark hasnt developed into where the coaching staff thought he would be by now. But in Mark’s defense, he is still young and may have come out too early. Lets hope a change in offensive philosophy will help put Mark on the right track.
Should you choose to test my resolve in this matter, you will be facing a finality beyond your comprehension, and you will not be counting days, or months, or years, but milleniums in a place with no doors.
Did you see the pocket he had!!!???
Geez….with that kind of time, I could’ve made that throw! A lot of folks around here are WAY too quick to discount the role the O line plays in a QB’s success. I mean, did we EVER see Sanchez with that kind of time this year? EVER!?

Depends on his health, and how much money he is looking for
If we get the 2010/11 Braylon, he could be a huge asset to our team. If its the 2011/12 Braylon, then Plax is a better player. I also wouldn’t give him a completely guaranteed contract. Give him one with incentives though, so if he has a good season and stays out of trouble, he can earn a significant amount of money. WIll he be too prideful for that? I’m not sure. It would be nice to have the flight boys back together again though, especially if we are planning on throwing deep more often this year. We need to give Sanchez and Sparano every opportunity to succeed.
Btw, Braylon always torched the Dolphins so I wouldn't be surprised if Sparano likes him
Plus he is similar to Brandon Marshall.
i completely agree with Baylon
going after Aso was stupid – should have just signed Cro from the rip and brought Bray back, and kept whatever camaraderie this team had inside the locker room.
Sorry just butting in, but these are the times when twitter can be cool.

come back Braylon!!
id love to replace Burress with Braylon but I do not think the jets FO agrees. After the locker room meltdown I think they will make an effort to sign high(er) character players and it would not help things to bring back in a player like Braylon who had several off the field incidents over his career.
Always loved Braylon...
…and what he brought to the table. Another one of those guys I always saw consistently playing to win. Who wanted to play more than anyone else on the field. That is who I want on this football team.
Love Bray
and I can truly sense that Sanchez really liked him….I think he may have been the buffer between Santonio and Mark, preventing any explosive fire works. Would love him back
Life is what you make it brothers....
Braylon might be to the Jets/Brady what Branch is to the Pats/Brady.

What I heard
I work with a guy that played his HS ball with Braylon and there still tight, I was told the Jets never even made him an offer last year. Also Braylon wants to come back assuming they dont completly low ball him
Would love to have him back.
Hated the way the contract thing went last year, and how acted about it, but I would to have Bray back. Dude could flat out ball. What I love most about Bray is that he could just go “Beast Mode” and will himself to making a play. Covered, uncovered, no matter. He could muscle you up, blow by you, lay you out on a block. Guy was just a physical presence.
And I think his presence will calm Tone the eff down too. Tone aint gonna get all chirpy when he knows that Chez can just start pumpin throws Bray’s way.
Addresses what LT spoke about
Guys that fit the mold of the team Rex and Tanny were trying to build.
JETS don’t have the personnel to represent Rex.
Doing the Douggie in a dudes face after scoring and doing backflips to celebrate is exactly what this team needs!
Plus Sanchez and BE works! Give Sanchez a stable group of WRs.

Wanna comment, in retrospect...
I was a fan of Braylon, personally. Had we signed him long term, I was getting a jersey. When we let him go I was sad but felt the right decision had been made about the time the bar scuffle happened.
After this season I’m officially retracting that position. Edwards turned out to be a HUGE part of this offense that was not simple to just drop in and replace. Sanchez connected with him almost immediately and in less than a season he fixed his “stone hands” issues. He was awesome in 2010. We miss him. We need him. He seems to fit perfect for the kind of offense Sparano wants. The constant fear of a bomb to Edwards opens up our other receivers but… it also opens up our run game too.
On top of that, I don’t think Sanchez had a better “groove” with any other receiver. There right there is as important as anything.
Question: was Bray a locker room problem?
I don’t seem to recall that ever being an issue, but we don’t really know what went on behind the scenes. Yes we know about his off field issues, but that may not be indicative of his locker room presence. Remember after the Steelers CC game loss, it was Holmes who was critical of the offense.
No question, the guy could play. His presence stretching the field made Holmes and Sanchez better, IMO. If he is healthy, can be gotten cheap, and there are no chemistry issues, please GO GET HIM.
I'd say no.
When we had Braylon, we were winning.
When you’re winning, there isn’t much of a “locker room problem” at all. Haha.
When does Free agency start?
Im guessing 2 weeks after the super bowl?
braylon got cut from SF this year because when he got hurt he bled green
get him back ASAP please . he is a great run blocker , great deep threat and did a great job for this team .

Bray's had tons of time to heal
from his injury. He’s only 28 and in his prime. I see no downside to this. Especially considering that they can probably get him for less than what they gave Plax. Give him $1.5 mil plus incentives and I bet they could get him.
just get him
hey tannenbaum stop looking for the big splash with big name overpaid and over rated talent.sign braylon he will not be expensive.
