NFC Championship Game Thread

As we all sit amazed by the amazing clutchness of Lee Evans, Billy Cundiff, and the Baltimore Ravens, we now turn our attention to the NFC Championship Game, otherwise known as the game that will decide which team Jets fans will root for in the Super Bowl two weeks from today.

I have gone back and forth on this one, but I can't pick against the Giants right now. They are just on too much of a roll. The 49ers are a very well coached team that does not beat itself. So were the Green Bay Packers. The Giants forced them into mistakes. They are peaking at the right time I think we are looking at a Giants-Pats Super Bowl for the second time in five years.

Put aside your astonishment at the gutty, clutch winners from Baltimore if that is possible and share your thoughts on the NFC Championship Game below.

I gotta say this

for those who are knocking Lee Evans, stop it. The dude had it & was in the process of completing the catch, when the defender made an outstanding play on the ball. Not he’s a scrub(not for this at least), not a choker, Moore just made a wonderful play. It happens

And if not, I turn around & say forget it.

by Brian. on Jan 22, 2012 6:24 PM EST reply actions

Nope. he sucks.

You need to cradle that ball, He didn’t protect it, and he dropped it. He is a SCRUB.

"Schotty... You Suck!" - Mark Sanchez

by jetsbill on Jan 22, 2012 6:26 PM EST up reply actions

He sucks

but not for that. Give the defender credit for making a great ball strip. Those guys exist too

And if not, I turn around & say forget it.

by Brian. on Jan 22, 2012 6:27 PM EST up reply actions

The defender got lucky

No way should that ball ever have been dropped. The season on the line, and a trip to the superbowl if you catch it, and he didn’t protect the ball. That’s completely pathetic.

"Schotty... You Suck!" - Mark Sanchez

by jetsbill on Jan 22, 2012 6:29 PM EST up reply actions

Sorry, that wasn’t a good ball strip. Evans just didn’t secure it. Plain as that.

While trying to find how Podacter’s death is connected to Snowflake’s disappearance, Ventura learns of a former Dolphins player named Billy Cundiff, whom he has not investigated, who had missed the potentially game-winning field goal kick at the end of the Super Bowl XVII, causing the Dolphins to lose the game and his own career to fail.

I think it’s both. Take Cruz away from Manning, and the Giants passing game is still good but probably closer to the middle of the pack. Put Cruz on the Jets and have him run seven yard slants with Mark Sanchez at QB, and he probably would put up similar numbers to Plaxico and Santonio this year.

by sp0rtsfan86 on Jan 22, 2012 8:57 PM EST up reply actions

Here’s the reason: He and Westhoff did not like each other.

Westy wanted him gone, and Steve publicly said he would not return to the Jets. It was mutual coach-player dislike for one another.

money trumps all

but Weatherford actually said publicly that he didn’t like this organization, but that was after he left.

It was also no secret that Westy wanted to go in a different direction.

Security guards are not typically as knowledgeable of organizational workings as they would have you believe. At the risk of offending people, they are low-level workers who like to inflate their role with companies they work for.

I think a lot of the non QB guys tend to give a better description of the game and whats going on. Maybe it’s just cause so much of the media around the NFL involves former QBs doing reporting that it’s just over-saturated with their viewpoint.

Also The Goose is easily the best sideline reporter bar none.

The female Jets beat writers seem to let the facts do the talking, and keep the snarky comments to themselves

at least for the most part.

I think part of it is genuinely sexist, in that if she offered the same subjective opinions as her male colleagues, she would be labeled a bitch.

I think you can say that for McManus, Vrentas, and most female jouranlists who rely on performance and not sex to get ahead

they’re more professionalism-oriented, and don’t let their dumb opinions cloud the purpose of their job. They’re smart, because they’re giving a male dominated audience what it wants: the meat and potatoes. And things with boobs talking about sports. We love that.

Does anyone actually read Cimini for his opinion, or just the news breaks? I know I only use him as a relatively reliable info source. And I find myself questioning that too.

I'm rooting for the Pats too

1. I want to see Ellis get a ring.
2. I want to see woodhead get a ring.
3. I want to see the Giants watch the patriots celebrate.

And there is no way that the Giants get lucky again. The Patriots don’t make mistakes and they don’t stop trying to hit on the long ball. SF completely went away from it in the 2nd half for some reason.

lulz, my dog could pass block better than him at that point.

We did sign Woody, trade for Jenkins, trade for Favre, sign Pace for 7 mil a year, sign Richardson, drafted Gholston and Keller. Overall, batted pretty well.

Why do we do this to ourselves

For the third year in a row I am a wreck after the stupid Championship game. In my 17 years the Giants have been to 3 superbowls, 3! Year after year all we get is depression, followed by hope, optimism about the draft, super bowl guarantees, mediocrity, inspired play, hope entering the playoffs, followed by devastation, repeat. Jets fans have the worst luck out there. This is ridiculous I hate the Pats and the Giants…all I want is 1!! 1 time they can’t just do it ONCE

"To me, it seems clear that right now we are the better team and we are going to remain the better team for the next 10 years. Whether you like it or not, those are the facts, and that’s what going to happen. I know it’s going to happen because our style of football is different. We are going to take over the town whether the Giants like it or not, so those fans on the fence that like both teams are going to be Jets fans in the end. asking probably isn't gonna fast track you

Being a dedicated and somewhat skilled writer is probably your best in.

It was totally a combination of demand and luck. There weren’t really any moderators when John asked me. Apparently Judgegavel and I both were overwhelmingly suggested by non candidates, which has always been an enormous source of pride for me. John eventually asked me to write on a weekly basis. I took over previews for the departed Matt Birch.

I won’t lie, I always wanted it. But I never thought of it as a possibility, it just fell into my lap one day. To be honest, I find people that volunteer themselves over those who are selected to sometimes be troublesome and in it for “power”. I’m not saying that is your case at all.

With that said (I say that a lot, don’t I?), it’s John site and decision. I will say that GGN is driven by contributors and user content, and nothing is stopping you from finding a niche before someone gives you a staff position (or doesn’t).

I’m not putting a positive spin on this year. I don’t think anybody who has read this site the past three weeks would think I have in any way. This team is head and shoulders above where it was at this point in 2007, though. That team had talent deficiencies up and down the roster. The current Jets team is a few players and growth from the QB away from being scary good.

I think the Jets from the top on down have matured this year.

Sanchez will realize losing isn’t the hardest thing in the world and stop getting down on himself. Rex has already said he will tone down everything because it puts the pressure on the players not himself. Mike T will realize just because you can cut a position and save money, it does not mean you will be better off. And Woody Johnson will realize that he has something good working, but must not be afraid to make a move quickly.

by sp0rtsfan86 on Jan 22, 2012 11:30 PM EST up reply actions

There are two perspectives on this year, 2011 and the big picture.

I’ve been focusing mainly on 2011. It was a very disappointing year. If we are going to be honest, there were a number of people who did not play up to expectations so if we’re going to be honest, the analysis is not going to be positive.

I think it’s completely another thing to say this franchise is doomed and the joke of the league. What does that say about division rivals like Miami and Buffalo who finished behind us and have both gone over a decade since a Playoff win?

by darshv3 on Jan 22, 2012 11:41 PM EST up reply actions

True

I think its easy to say big picture and relish the successes of the last few seasons even with this seasons mediocrity, but I think at this point, 47 years or so since the last Super Bowl win, that the big picture shouldn’t mean being happy when compared to Buffalo.
I agree with you that taking a sky is falling attitude is not the right mindset, but after over 4 decades without winning, coupled with the events of today in particular, for me at least its hard to take solace in back to back years that had even more heartbrake then typical horrific Jets seasons.

good point

It’s hard to be rational after everything today, I guess I, in a rage, misinterpreted a non sky is falling attitude as positive spin. I think if the Jets adopt a 49ers mentality, being younger, faster, stronger, they can be good. It’s a process though and the Jets are going to have to step up many levels on all sides of the ball if they want to be a Super Bowl team

WOW

As a Jets fan i’m sick to my stomach. our in-state rival and our most hated rival are in the SB. .As a New Yorker i’m hope the Giants win. I like the Giants…I HATE the Pats.

maybe a positive outlook

Maybe this season and this SB game will light a fire in the Jets organization on getting this team back to glory. Maybe this will motivate Rex and hopefully the team. If the Giants win, the mission of taking NYC back or if the Pats win finally knocking the Pats of its perch!! What a humbling season…i’m tired of being humbled!
