What I am Expecting from this Press Conference:

As I am sure we all know and are looking forward to, Rex Ryan and Mike Tannenbaum will be holding a press conference today at 3:00. This is coming one day after the end to a season that I find hard to call anything but depressing. In less than 24 hours, we have already heard about some possible changes. Bart Scott could be released, Norv Turner and Josh McDaniels are candidates for offensive coordinator, and this whole business with team unity. This is a bad time for the Jets. I have never in my life seen a team with such little unity. It truly seems like this team does not know how to move forward. Hopefully, MAJOR changes will be made.

I want Brian Schottenheimer out. I do want Scott released. I want Sanchez to compete with another quarterback for the starting spot next year. However, I don't expect any major changes in today's press conference. As we all know, Brian Schottenheimer is for some reason a hot name to be a head coach next year. With a handful of teams in need for a new coach, he is probably a prime candidate. The Jets do not want to mess that up for him. Firing him one day after the season will damage his chances because teams perceptions on him will change. Another reason we really don't want that is that if Schotty falls off of teams boards for coaching candidates, Mike Pettine will almost certainly rise. I think we have already seen that with the Miami Dolphins. That is why I don't expect the Jets to announce Schotty's firing today. And it is probably for the best.

From today's press conference, I expect a couple of tears, and a whole lot of revelations. Mike Tannenbaum and Rex will probably take most of the time to just announce the mistakes they have made this season, along with their regrets, and how they now feel after failing in arguably the hardest time of their coaching and managing careers. They need to clear up the whole situation with Santonio Holmes. Why was it the receivers coach/Schotty who benched him and not Rex? Is Rex truly scared to be "mean" to his stars? I also really want to know what they will do about it. Apparently, Rex held a team meeting today, something he usually does only once a week, and cried when begging the Jets to become unified. This is not good. Did Vince Lombardi ever cry when there was some dis certainty in his team? Parcells? Madden? Didn't think so. Rex needs to toughen up and be the guy that he says he is. He needs to force this team into unifying again through discipline and inspirational speeches. Not tears. Finally, I want to hear them talk honestly about Sanchez. Rex says the same exact thing in every press conference that Sanchez is the leader of this team and he will be the future QB. Maybe thing will come out today and Rex will actually go a little deeper into his mind and give an analysis on him. He needs to critique Sanchez, pin his struggles on certain things, and say that he will need to compete next year.

Basically, i don't expect them to announce any major changes today. I just expect them to talk about the past, the present, and the future. Whether you agree or disagree, this is the most important press conference of the year. Every Jet fan should be watching and listening to what the leaders of this team have to say.

I’m not so sure he’s really a hot name. At any rate, the Jets can’t afford to think like this. They need to do the right thing for their team, and that means beginning the search for somebody new ASAP.

They can still contact OC candidates

while Schotty is still coach.

That’d be kind of silly, though. Wouldn’t it?

Why?

They tell Schotty they will fire him within two weeks while they search for a new OC. They keep his chances alive while we are kept unaffected.

It’s very difficult to hide something like that. Particularly considering all the leaks this team has had in the past 24 hours.

New Manish Report about Schotty
It’s precarious, but there’s faction in organization that believe Jets will wait on Schottenheimer’s HC interviews b4 making final decision

Ugh! I’m getting depressed again.

It is too general of a statement

to take anything out of it. To really believe something, Manish needs to say “a trusted source”. Not a “faction”.

I think you are right about no major announcements coming out today

That makes me sad. I don’t want Schotty to lose his job but it really needs to happen.

After this sesaon's disastrous personnell changes.....

if I don’t see Hunter, Slauson, and Folk (at a minimum) released, I will have no hope for next season. Releasing Cotchery, Edwards, and Smith in favor of Mason, and Plax (much as I love him) was a blunder of disastrous proportions. If they make another one of those this off season by keeping these guys, I don’t know if I’ll even be able to watch next year.

by JoCaT33 on Jan 2, 2012 2:33 PM EST reply actions

I understand Hunter but why Slauson?

Also JCo asked for a release, Edwards and Smith were free agents the Jets claimed they could not afford.

by MDGeekyGrl on Jan 2, 2012 2:36 PM EST up reply actions

Penalites...

Him and Hunter committed a lot of them.

JCo asked to be released because he saw the writing on the wall—he knew his days were numbered based on other moves Tannenbaum was making.

Not being able to afford Smith and Edwards was BS—what did they spend the money on? Revis and Mangold already had their contracts. Let’s face it—they went bargain-basement this year with their acquisitions and paid dearly for it. I mean really, for what reason did they hold onto Folk? That guy was responsible for 3 games going into OT in 2010 because of his missed FG’s, but they didn’t want to pay for someone better.

by JoCaT33 on Jan 2, 2012 5:33 PM EST up reply actions

Why do you want Bart Scott to be cut?

I’m asking because maybe I’m missing something. Sure, he may only be a 2 down linebacker and his production has dipped, but think of what it will do to us:

- Won’t it hurt our cap room in an offseason where we’re making big changes and really trying to make this team a lot better?
- We have to replace him. That means either signing someone in free agency (while we have bigger needs than ILB right now) or draft a top ILB (use a high pick of our that could be used elsewhere; again, we have bigger needs than ILB right now)

by jets! on Jan 2, 2012 2:34 PM EST reply actions

Because like you said

he is a two down linebacker. I’d rather get a three/four down linebacker through free agency than put Josh Mauga in there for two downs.

by LiveLoveNYJets on Jan 2, 2012 2:36 PM EST up reply actions

But we have bigger needs

I feel that focusing on S, OLB, RT, WR would do more for this team than focusing on ILB first. Unless we can get them all done?

by jets! on Jan 2, 2012 2:40 PM EST up reply actions

It'll become clear within the following months

but we all know how much of a wiz Mike T is with $$$. If anyone can find a way to fill each position with a high profile player, it’s him.

That's true

Let’s hope. BTW anyone watching Nebraska vs. South Carolina right now and see Alshon Jeffery’s catch right before halftime? Dude is amazingggg. I wanted to pick Upshaw in the first round but I’m not sure right now. Jeffery already has longggg receptions (1 of them a hail mary touchdown over everyone else in the pile of players)

No surprises from the press conference..

Schotty will get support from the head office as long as the team can hold out, it won’t look good to fire him after so much support and not a word from Rex or Mike T about concerns with his decision making.. hopefully Jacksonville goes well for him, or St. Louis, Tampa or one of a dozen other teams with coaches on the chopping block. He’s not progressing as an offensive coordinator with us, and the playbook has grown predictable. Maybe the head coach position will suit him better – for the Jets and his sake, I wish him luck.

The details of the locker room drama don’t need to come out, just that they aren’t going to be tolerated. Rex admitted he didn’t have his finger on the pulse of this team – I think we all knew that. Now you have a full nine months before opening day, better get familiar and impress what this team will and won’t be.

There is talent on this team, but it has a ton of issues to correct. Some players aren’t going to be able to fill the shoes they’re assigned and will need to be cut or released. Same with coaches. It’s a long off-season, hope they spend it critiquing wisely.

Damn...

Come on Jaguars, take him. Please. You can deal with him. Not our problem.

If someone tells you that you can't do it then f*** it. Keep going.
