I know this probably won't happen, but hiring Steve Spagnuolo could benefit the Jets. Mike Pettine's name has been thrown around in head coaching conversations, so there is a possibility that he will not be with us next year, meaning the Jets might be in search of a new Defensive Coordinator. Steve Spagnuolo will be one of the top candidates for a coordinating job around the league. This is a guy who led an amazing Giants pass rush back in 2008, on their way to a superbowl win. He was a head coaching candidate the same year we hired Rex Ryan. At the time, Steve Spagnuolo was actually my first choice for the head coaching job back in 2009. In hindsight, I'm much happier with Rex Ryan. However, it would be great to have him here as a Defensive Coordinator next year. He could focus on our front seven, and hopefully help generate a better pass rush, with help of some offesason acquisitions, while Rex can focus on the secondary, and the playcalling.
The good thing about having both of these defensive masterminds on the same team is that I feel like they complement each other. I think Rex would help out with Spagnuolo's weaknesses, and vice versa.
What do you guys think about this possibility?
