Should we pursue Trevor Scott of the Raiders
Much has been said about the disappointing pass rush that our current OLBs have generated this season gone. With not a huge amount of cap space, a potential free agent target could be Trevor Scott of the Oakland Raiders
Taken in the 6th round (No169) in the 2008 draft, Scott ended up being the most productive DE taken that year finishing the season with 5 sacks. The following season he contributed 7 sacks. The 6ft5, 256lbs Scott who ran a 4.54 at the combine was then shifted to LB in the Raiders 4-3 defensce
Installed as a linebacker in 2010, Scott started 10 games as an SLB until he was sidelined with an ACL injury which resulted in him being placed on injured reserve. This season gone, changes to the Raiders roster have led to him having a diminished role, with the Raiders seemingly not certain whether to use him on the defensive line or in the linebackers.
Whilst not the 'sexiest' signing, Scott clearly has the skills to not only rush the passer but also drop into coverage as required. He would not cost a great deal to add to the roster, but the New York state native could quite easily become a gem. He is the sort of player successful teams pick up for very little and uncover outstanding production from. With Maybin, Thomas and Westerman free agents and with Ware having maybe lost a step, OLB is a position where we may need to look to both Free Agency as well as the draft

Seems safe and cheap.
But he’s probably valuable to the Raiders. Doubt he sees the open market for long.

it depends on our other FA moves
my FA preferences by order
1) Griffin FS TEN , cost : about 6m
2) Bell OT BILLS , cost : about 4m
3) Jones P RAMS , cost : about 2.5m
4) Smith RB LIONS , cost : about 2.5m
if we can afford a pass rusher after all these signings i wouldn’t mind adding him to our roster

Why Bell?
Are we getting rid of Brick? There is no way Bell can play at RT – he is so feeble he could only bench press 225lbs 10 times only which is pathetic – one of the worst performances ever for a OL.
And Griffin has slumped in performance. Branch would be a better signing as his career is on the up rather than on the slide.
My FA preferences are
1) Marques Colston, WR, Saints – about $6m
2) Tyvon Branch SS, Raiders – about $5m
3) Dan Connor ILB, Panthers – about $2m
4) Trevor Scott OLB, Raiders – about $2m
No RT upgrades in Free Agency
Looking at who is scheduled to be an UFA in Free Agency and their performances, there is no-one shockingly who would be an upgrade over Hunter …. all of them are bums.
I think RT help will need to be found in R3 or R4 of the draft.
RTs often slide to this area and I think one of Levy Adcock, Bobbie Massie or Matt Reynolds would likely be a Day1 starter.
Your Best Idea Yet
He’ll probably come pretty cheap. If the Jets can afford him after signing:
1. Reggie McKenzie
2. Michael Griffin, Reggie Nelson or Dashon Goldston
3. Braylon Edwards
ok, but I think those are higher priorities for FA. I think the Jets can do better at OLB in the draft.

Can Brick play the RT position – seriously? I saw him lined up there for the first few series in the Pro Bowl before he switched back to the left side. So wondered if in our seeking out potential OL in FA this could make a difference for us or not? I don’t know if he ever played there in his College days.

He maybe a diamond in the rough
Nice size and speed, played both DE and OLB in the big leagues. Wouldn’t hurt seeing what the kid got. We can always draft someone and keep Maybin, and have a poistion battle.
