I think it validates some of the stuff that the anonymous sources have said about him in the last week. Tomlinson knows what he see’s and is not afraid to speak the truth. Woody Johnson saying that he’s the first guy in and the last guy out is just a blind statement and not true at all. This kind of stuff has to mean that other players thought Sanchez got complacent this year, and that it is probably true.

I think if you see the whole video of the interview

LDT comes off much more professional than you might think just dropping the one line in print. He is answering a few questions but still being careful and guarded in his statements. His comments about Holmes after the last game were much worse and less professional.

But none the less, he is done.

Why all hate for Sanchez ?

Alex Smith sucked for longest, and now has the right coaching, look how good he’s doing. We got rid of a terrible offensive coordinator, who wouldn’t play to Sanchez strengths, so that’s a big step for Sanchez. Now QB coach needs to be fired.

Why is the QB coach bad? I expect my Quarterback to hit a wide open receiver, schotty isn’t throwing the ball for him out there, there is no excuse for missing as many open receivers as Mark missed this year, it falls on the QB’s head.

And even then

Mark Sanchez had his best year, and best year any QB had under Schottenheimer. QB coach wasn’t a good offensive coordinator himself.

Let’s see what he does this year.

Drew Brees was a Pro Bowler in 04 under Schotty

Its not like he’s a complete anti-performance magnet. Sanchez HAS to take some blame.

by J-Nasty on Jan 15, 2012 1:58 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Cavanagh and Schotty were terrible

they both have long track records of not developing QBs. Cavanagh has no place coaching football at any level and the QBs that Schottenheimer has been around have all dramatically improved once they left him.

Drew Brees became a superstar once he left San Diego and Chad Pennington as well as Brett favre both had incredible seasons right after leaving the Jets. This proves that our coaching has sucked big time.

by bklynbrewcrew on Jan 15, 2012 11:34 AM EST up reply actions

I’m not saying they are great or that they are not to blame for some of the problems. However if you think that none of Sanchez’s struggles are on his own head you are deluding yourself. Sanchez has to perform better by himself regardless of coach or gameplan. Someone who can guide him will be much better but lets not pretend that Sanchez is a victim and was not at fault for any of the 18 interceptions or 10 fumbles. I like Sanchez and I support Sanchez. I’m not going to blindly follow him and blame it all on the coaches though. Sanchez needs to get better, different coaches may help we don’t know and I hope they do. However if we do bring in a QB coach who has a record of developing QB’s and Sanchez still doesn’t improve. His apologists will have a hard time defending him.

Basically how i feel

I like Sanchez, and I hope he can be the long term answer for this team, but he’s certainly lost his fair share of games for this team. That being said, he’s also won his fair share of games. Sparano said he’s gonna have a back to basics approach with Sanchez, which i believe is a good thing.

by darshv3 on Jan 15, 2012 11:57 AM EST up reply actions

What does Sparano know about QBs

seriously what has this guy ever done that tells you that he can get more out of Sanchez? We hired an offensive coordinator with very little playcalling experience and one that is an offensive line coach. How is this the best guy to get more out of a QB?

We drafted Sanchez very high and have wasted his talents by hiring garbage offensive coaches. Sanchez played one full season at USC and therefore needed top offensive coaches to help him tap his potential.

We have badly failed Mark sanchez and continue to do so by hiring coaches with no background working with QBs. I really dont see why anyone supports the hiring of Sparano other than he is not Schottenheimer. We are all happy to get rid of Schotty but it was of utmost importance to hire a coordinator who knows QBs and we did no such thing.

by bklynbrewcrew on Jan 15, 2012 12:04 PM EST up reply actions

I really believe...

The the bad coaching has sort of compounded itself on Mark. The offense with no identity, the gimmicks (the timer and the color coding thing), the conservative nature of our HC and on and on… it just grinds at people.

I can’t disagree about having a backup though. Even if Mark was performing at a high level there is no universe where you want Mark Burnell as your backup.

Alex Smith, right now, is demonstrating just what coaching stupidity can do to a player and how long it can do it to a player. He misses obvious reads because he had a year of college experience and since then has been tutored by people almost everyone on this board knows to be ineffective.

Mark ain’t Peyton Manning. He needs a coach and he needs to be guided. (He also needs to grow a pair and stop pouting so much. I really hate that.) We’ll see how this year goes. I’m rooting for him to have a solid season.

With that said, if he’s still turning the ball over at spectacularly bad times… we need to get someone new.

Its all about the coaching

Alex Smith sucked for 5 or 6 years and now looks real good because he has harbaugh coaching him. Sanchez had Schotty and Cavanagh and thats why he hasnt developed as fast as we all hoped. Now we have Sparano who has no clue how to develop a QB and as of now Cavanagh is still on the staff.

If Ryan was so set on running a conservative offense we should never have drafted sanchez so high. We would be better off just playing a journeyman QB with expertise in handing the ball off. This organization has and continues to screw Mark Sanchez over by hiring coaches that dont know a damn thing about developing QBs.

Since we have no intention of playing a real offense we should just release Sanchez and let him go to a team like Seattle or arizona where he will be coached up.

by bklynbrewcrew on Jan 15, 2012 11:26 AM EST reply actions

It doesnt matter who plays QB for this team

when we have a coaching staff that stifles the QB and makes him afraid to make mistakes. You dont draft a QB as high as we did if you have no intention of hiring coaches that know how to develop that QB.

Until we hire good offensive coaches we could bring in Aaron Rodgers and we would still underachieve offensively. Our offenses have basically sucked since 1998 and the one factor why is that we have always had defensive head coaches who have hired terrible offensive coaches.

I think that Schotty and Rex are responsible for making Sanchez so afraid of making a mistake that, ironically, he fails to react as instinctively anymore. We see the unnecessary pump fakes. The late throws. Etc.

Is anyone going to argue that Tebow is a better passer than Sanchez? But what did Elway say to him before the Steelers game? “Pull The Trigger.” Not “Don’t Screw Up.”

Jets need to tell Sanchez to toss it down the field and stop looking to check it down every play.

In all his years of suck we've heard Alex Smith be called alot of things

But not once was he called lazy by his teammates and/or had his leadership questioned. By comparison, he was a number one pick, drafted to one of the most legendary franchises in NFL history during a painful playoff drought. 6 seasons of disappointment, embarrassment, but not ONCE did a story like this ever surface with him. Something I noticed.

Enough with this lazy talk

this is all a bunch of nonsense most likely coming from a guy like santonio Holmes who is upset he doesnt have pro bowl stats with this team. The bottom line with Alex Smith is that he sucked until he got good coaching. If the Niners didnt hire harbaugh then most likely Alex Smith would have continued to suck.

A QB needs to have good offensive coaches around them. Smith is a perfect example of this and this is why I think the Jets dropped the ball once again in regards to hiring Sparano over coaches with backgrounds working with QBs.

You don't know what A. Smith's teammates were saying about him

You don’t know what A. Smith’s teammates were saying about him
because the media didn’t really care much about San Fran until this year.

It’s most likely no one in the media asked Smith’s teammates about him because he was already written off and the 49’ers were a losing team. The guy has been benched on more than a couple of occasions in the middle of a game so you have to think his teammates didn’t have a very good perception of him.

I don't get what the players input has to do with a players benching, I figured that was always more of a coaching decision.

And Vernon Davis, one of the leaders of that team has gone on record with nothing but good things to say about Smith, along with other members of the offense. I’ll give you the point of them not getting much coverage though.

I have no problem with LT airing his opinion

However, I am less interested in hearing his conclusion than hearing about the facts which lead him to it.

Let me back up. A lot of people think that Sanchez is a good play-action QB and the Jets should have called more roll outs. John B, had a great post not too long ago showing how Sanchez failed to pull the trigger on one such play, causing the Jets to miss out on an easy TD (although, unrelatedly, there was holding).

Here are my questions. Why was Sanchez unable to make that throw? And why does anyone, LT included, think that having someone to “push him” is going to cause Sanchez to complete that pass?

I want to know WHY Sanchez is failing. If his coaches are giving him material to study and he is not studying it then, yes, competition may spur him to play better. But if he is putting the work in and still can’t execute then either he is being miscoached or he simply cannot grasp it. If the former, change the coaches and stop worrying about “lighting a fire” under Sanchez’ ass. If the latter, then no amount of competition is going to make Sanchez better.

For some reason, fans have a tendency to disproportionately blame players’ motivation for failure when there are many other explanations in many cases. Fans want punative measures taken when a player fails to perform, as if the player isn’t trying to succeed.

There are three Jets who have received a lot of criticism this year: Eric Smith, Wayne Hunter, and Matt Mulligan. Of the three, only Mulligan’s repeated mental errors strike me as possibly being the result of insufficient focus. Smith and Hunter just aren’t that good. You can punsh them to your heart’s content but Smith and Hunter are not going to get the job done.

No.

Coaches have down seasons. Especially first time HC, it takes time to see the rewards. The Steelers gave Cowher forever, and the Giants gave Coughlin a long time, despite a few bad years, and they were re-payed with Superbowls. I firmly believe that Rex has the potential to be a phenomenal HC, like Belichek, and he just needs a few years. He’ll get there. He’ll adapt.

No one sane agrees.

Unless Rex produces something like the Colts did this year, he should be safe. I can’t say I’ll be happy with another 8-8 season, but I really like Ryan and there’s no looking past his success in the playoffs.

Frankly, I think he NEEDED this kind of season. The AFC Championship games both seemed to give the organization an excuse to simply ignore lingering problems. 8-8? Not so much. Imagine if Sean Payton had been fired after his 2nd (7-9) and 3rd (8-8) seasons.

I’m still hoping we pick up Haley, but personally, I love the Sparano hire. I think his personality and his methods of dealing with players will be a really good balance. I know everyone here wants to see a Superbowl. However, I think those will come in time with Ryan. I’m happy enough just to be relevant right now. As bad as the season was, we were in the playoff hunt until the final week. That’s a lot better than a lot of other teams.

Some more quotes from LT
“I think some things that happened in the locker room between (Sanchez) and the receivers, I think that’s where this is coming from — some of the disconnects that happened throughout the year, maybe some of the arguments you guys heard about throughout the year,” Tomlinson said. “So I think this is where it may be coming from.”
“Listen, there are a lot of things you can say about Mark Sanchez, but to call him lazy is a bit much,” Tomlinson said. “This is a guy that has worked very hard off the field … in the film room, I’ve seen it … the weight room, putting in extra time with the coaches early in the morning … after practice, when everybody is gone, putting in time. So he’s not lazy.”
“There were times in the locker room that things were happening, but players — for the most part in the season — kept it under wraps,” he said. "It didn’t really get out to the media until the end part of the season. I think it happened because of the losses we had toward the end. Once that happened, you got guys to come out to the media, saying things, (how) they’re not happy about certain situations.

“That’s the issue. You have guys, anonymously, saying things that are bringing this team down and you can’t have that.”

the wr’s were the guys on his case but were also the guys who stopped putting in 100% on the field .and saying sanchez needs competition is saying the FO have done a bad job finding talent for this team . everybody needs to be pushed to get better in every walk of life and not having a guy to do that is 1 of the main reasons that sanchez hasn’t progressed as quickly and he could have

if its for you it won't pass you

I don’t really buy the “better backup QB pushes Sanchez” argument. The Jets certainly need a better backup QB, but that’s just in case Sanchez gets hurt. The Jets have to determine what’s the real problem with Sanchez. If he’s lazy, yeah, he might need to be pushed, but if the real problem is that he’s lost confidence, bringing in competition will probably make him lose even more confidence. How does thinking you might get benched make you play better? He’ll just be playing scared.

My take

Tanny and Rex are at fault for this. Players love to play for Rex, and they know it, but they took it too far. They think they can continually bring in talented bad dudes and they’ll conform because of Rex. That’s all fine when you’re winning, but bad dudes are bad dudes, and it all comes out when you’re struggling. Bad guys point fingers at others, they don’t look in the mirror. Santonio Holmes jogs around, then calls others lazy. How does a Super Bowl MVP in the prime of his career become available for a fifth round draft pick? Now you know. It’s time to now get rid of the bad guys, and get some good character guys in here.

How many teammates have to insinuate that the QB was content

Some poeple just wont lose when it comes to Sanchez, you got LT, who some of you wanted to kiss when he spoke out about Holmes attitude in the last game but when he mentions Sanchez needs someone to push him for the QB to play better (which is an indictment on the lack of respect he has for his position or at the least he didn’t catch on to the offence to the point it was obvious)
Some of us want to call LT out and attack his opinion … It’s sad the extent the apologist will go to.

when LT says sanchez needs to be pushed its more of a jab on the coaches and FO

its sad the extent sanchez haters will go to , to twist a story .
try reading everything LT said and it shows he is firmly behind sanchez instead of just picking out the bits to suit your argument

if its for you it won't pass you
