Bill Callahan to Become Dallas Cowboys O-Line Coach
In the most stunning news of the night, ESPN is reporting that Bill Callahan will become the new offensive line coach of the Dallas Cowboys. This is pretty remarkable, as it was reported earlier that Callahan did not want to sign a new contract with the Jets. This is heartbreaking to those of us who wanted Callahan as the new offensive coordinator. It is no doubt a terrible loss for the Jets, for whom Callahan has been a rock. I suspect the Jets will try and get Tony Sparano to replace Callahan, but make no mistake about it. Unless there is a drastic change that we don't know about, the Jets offensive line will feel this next season. Ugh.

HOLD IT!
I just realized that was the Jets master plan all along!
Todd Haley and Sparano have made references, one to the other to rejoin and work together again like they had in the past! Rumors are the Jets were interested in Haley and Sparano, what if they are going to put them together. Haley OC and Sparano O-line Coach.
And the home of the .... JETS!!!
Now lets get a G-D snack!!!

I’ve heard that too, that Sparano and Haley are trying to go as a packaged deal, as running game and passing game consultants.

well they better do that soon!
todd haley and the cardinals are awfully close to figuring something out. You hear that Tanny!? Move it!
I believe haley was a WR coach with us before.
I’d love him and sporano. Get those guys motivated…

This is a loss
and a big one at that. Make no mistake though, offensive line coaches don’t have a huge impact really no matter who they are. He could be liked by the players, but so could anybody else. If we get Sparano, that could really give us a better mind of Miami’s player tendencies.

Shit!
One bad year doesn’t matter more than several good ones. I really wanted him to stay.
well they offered him an extension
but he turned it down. this was a while ago
Feeling of dread...
Why do I get the feeling that tannenbaum is driving back to the office to start making calls?I was under the now false assumption that the only coach to lead the nfl in offence on this team was in line to take shottys’ job if/when he gets another job. But karma bites us in the ass . Note to team: If you don’t let a coach under contract interview for better jobs in the league they may remember this and not want to coach for you in the future. This seems to be the case with Callahan because, he would rather do the same job on another team than stay here and vie for the OC job. Great Management Jets. Burning bridges and killing dreams of fans.

Denying teams the right to interview coaching staff is not an uncommon move. Most teams are very protective of their assistant coaches.

It was a good decision not to let him interview. I mean, he might have taken the job or something. Fair is fair, and now he’s got a chance to work for a guy who might actually be aware of what goes on with the offense.

I get that its business ..
But the Jets should have a PLAN of ACTION. From the day they made that stupid press conference to end the season. I assumed they would if not fire shotty outright put in a contingency plan that included Callahan. For him to take a Dallas job means that 1) he sees a sinking ship and wants off or 2) the jets were cheap and/or had no plan including Callahan.

I think the Jets like Mike Devlin to take over though.
He’s the TE Coach and has been learning from Callahan as assistant OL Coach.

my mistake
My dread is from our dwindling options at Offensive Coordinator. And the chances that they actually keep Brian Shottenhiemer .
by Jeremy Corbblah on Jan 10, 2012 9:17 PM EST up reply actions
Maybe that's why Callahan jumped ship...
He knows they are keeping Schotty and he was tired of coaching in a shit offensive system.
I wonder if he's getting paid more over there.
And whether the Jets don’t have much money to give their assistants any raises. (And even if they do, they can be pretty cheap anyway.)

Hopefully that interest in Sparano was actually for O-line coach instead of OC.

Seems like everyone not named brian schottenheimer is leaving or getting canned. Hopefully we swoop in and hire sporano,.haley and jackson. That’d be huge for us.

Or Cavanaugh, the former Super Bowl winning OC and QB. Insurance for when Schotty gets hired away.

This is making me nervous
They let go 3 different coaches who most of us are somewhat content with but Schotty is still hanging on by a thread.

Yeah they're making moves fast. Seems like they are waiting for schotty.
My uncle brought up a solid point. Why would marty schott all of a sudden try and get a head coaching job now? Could he be trying to keep poor little schotty under protection by getting a HC job and getting him one too? Time will tell…
by jets4life24 on Jan 10, 2012 9:41 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Marty was head coach in the UFL last year and by all accounts, does not want to stop coaching. Hard to imagine him working as a coordinator after all he’s been through, so it’s not really a surprise to me.

He won a championship last year too
Schotty and son will make a great duo in Tampa. Josh Freeman will flourish under Schotty’s tutelage

I don't know which I'd rather have
Sparano as O-line coach and Haley as OC or Sparano as Oline coach and Hue Jackson as OC

not here to troll or anything, wanted to get some feedback on Callahan
can you guys fill me in on Callahan? Is he a good OL coach and did you guys want him back?

According to Jenny Vrentas
Callahan was also the run game coordinator and there’s a good chance that Job now goes to Anthony Lynn (RB coach). I also remember an article about how Rex thought really highly of Lynn…correlation maybe?
Don't know much about Lynn.
He seemed like a real hardass on Hard Knocks though, and i think that is what this O needs.
He falls under the Mike Shanahan coaching tree.
He started coaching in Denver, and I think he was a backup player when they won the Super Bowl.

Just to throw it out there
In the event Schotty does leave for a HC position, the Jets can still hire Callahan back as OC. Because it is considered a promotion, the Cowboys can’t prevent such a move. Whether Callahan would accept the job or the Jets would offer it to Callahan is a different story.

I doubt Callahan would do something so crappy
his reputation would be ruined after something like that
Love with a LEO is like a drug.. One taste and your addicted!
I realize it is unlikely.
But money and more importantly, a promotion could change that. What if the reason Callahan left was because he didn’t get along with Schotty? I’m not saying that is the case, but if so, it could leave him open to a return as OC if Schotty goes.

TBH…That wouldn’t surprise me one bit.

Obviously
It had to be torture for Callahan to be in the shadow of a young offensive mastermind like Schotty.

Interesting.
I didn’t know that. Thanks.

Probably Westy if he doesn't retire
He had that position before Callahan came, when he first retired to recover from his surgery.

Looks like we're holding out and widening our nets in our desparate search to find a worse OC than Schotty.
Just to stick prove to the world that there can be a worse OC than Schotty.

Glad this staff is little by little getting replaced
These guys didnt do a good job this year and its time for changes. And Im also glad Schotty didnt get the job in Jacksonville. Tanny, Rex, and Woody shouldnt get off that easy. Now they either need to get the blood on their hands by firing Schotty or they need to be prepared to join him on the unemployment line next year. Really happy that Woody will get stuck paying Schotty, serves his cheap ass right.
Should you choose to test my resolve in this matter, you will be facing a finality beyond your comprehension, and you will not be counting days, or months, or years, but milleniums in a place with no doors.
