2012 New York Jets (in my point of view)

This is my first post and hopefully i did everything correctly.

Firstly, i believe we are going to go with a new OC but we are waiting to see if BS gets hired so we can save some money. The reason i believe that Bill Callahan hasnt even been in the media is because i think they have already offered him the job. i truly hope that is true but if not there are many other candidates and i personally believe we should bring in a new voice and fresh face. My choice would be Raiders HC Hue Jackson, who probably will be let go under their new regime. He and Rex worked together in Baltimore and Rex wanted to bring him in as OC when he was hired here but BC was thrown on him for some odd reason.

Star-divide

i want Mark to get another chance with a good running game and better supporting cast around him.

A disclaimer. Everything I said is what I picked up from other posts on here, and my personal opinions. Everybody will think that we should do something different, but t his is what I think of this. Also, people just won’t post right away all the time, give them some time to.

I like the first round pick of course, I’m just hoping that he will still be there.

Second. Mark Baron will definitely not be avaiable to us in the second round, he’ll be off the board by then. I would presume that the Jets pick a Wide Receiver with this pick, get a good one. There is a glut this year and they will be going off the board quickly by the second, so might as well draft one here. On the other hand, as others and myself are high on drafting Trent Richardson in the first, either draft a RB here like LaMichael James, or if we end up going a different direction altogether in the first, get our OLB here.

Free agency, I don’t think we are in the running for Hillis, I’d rather draft a good RB for a cheaper price tag.
Either pick Edwards or Plax, I don’t think both are going to co-exist as they both wear the same number. I’d go with a chance for Edwards.

Third round, I could see us going for the offensive line. Either that or flip flop this with the second pick. If a good safety is available, go after him here, but probably not.

Fourth Round. We aren’t drafting a quarterback at all this year. Sanchez is our franchise. We need a mentor for him through free agency, and we have a good McElroy as a backup.

Fifth. Go after a safety here, a running back, OT, or Line backer.

Sixth, definitely go after an OL man here if we haven’t already. Otherwise a safety if we didn’t draft one, or defensive line depth.

Seventh, just cover anything else we need.

A disclaimer. Everything I said is what I picked up from other posts on here, and my personal opinions. Everybody will think that we should do something different, but this is what I think of this.

Interesting

I’ll get it started.

First, your draft choices:

I would be ok with Upshaw, but there are other OLBs I prefer more because they are faster than Upshaw. The important thing imo is that the OLB/pass rush situation needs to be addressed in the first round.

I like that you addressed the positions of need, but am not wild about all of your choices and some I know nothing about.

At S, Barron is a good choice, but I prefer Markelle Martin. I like his play a lot and I think he is faster than Barron. Also, Barron is a SS and Martin a FS. FS is the bigger need. The Jets have to get a S who can cover TEs and RBs over the middle. That is an absolute must.

I don’t know anything about Mosely, but he must be pretty good. That said, I think WR another S or double-dipping at OLB is more important than an OT at this point. I’d prefer to wait and take an OT in either the 4th or 5th round.

Unlike many Jets fans, I wouldn’t have a problem with the Jets taking another QB in the draft this year. Weeden is 28, but is big, has a good, accurate arm and could be good competition for Sanchez and McElroy. I’d prefer a vet FA, but the Jets may not be able to afford one and the options are few. Brunell should go, so they may have to take a QB in the draft in order to have 3.

Maze is a good player but the Jets took a WR/PR last year in Kerley, so Maze really isn’t the WR I think the Jets should go after, plus I think they need a taller, better receiver, one that could be a legitimate #1 or at least offer a big, athletic target. Someone like Sanu perhaps in the 2nd round.

I don’t know squat about Butrym, but Wisconsin’s a good program. I see that he has been a DT. That would project to DE with the Jets, but they took Wilkerson and Ellis last year. Another DE isn’t needed. They have lots of depth on the DL. This pick would be much better spent on another S, OLB, blocking TE who can also catch, OG or even a K/P combination like the Sharp kid from Ok. St.

I like taking a Punter, but again, I’d rather go with a K/P combo to save the roster spot.

I Forgot

I don’t think there’s any way the Jets will be able to sign Michael Griffin, Manny Lawson, Peyton Hillis, Jared Gaither, Braylon Edwards, and Feely, plus re-sign Plax. That’s just not realistic. I seriously doubt if Feely would even want to come back to the Jets. I wanted Lawson signed last offseason, but I don’t think Rex likes him. He’s never put up big numbers. He has the tools and I thought perhaps Rex could turn him into a beast, but perhaps not. I love the Griffin and Edwards signings. Also, there’s no way Brodney Pool should be brought back imo. I think he sucks.

thanks

thanks for the comments. I personally believe we should go after either griffin or nelson and then draft a safety. we need LBs and safeties bad…

Don't agree with Hillis.

This isn’t madden 12.

I'm gonna keep trying for what i want and on here it's to be a staff writer for any team in the NFL on SBNation.

lol

Im actually a Florida gator fan but Nick Saban’s defensive players probably will do good in the league.

QUESTION FOR EVERYONE

I didnt want to make a full post out of this so i figured to just add it on to a post like this one.

If Trent Richardson and Upshaw are both available at 16 who do you think we should take?
Upshaw fills a bigger need but Richardson is such a great talent that Im not sure we can pass on him

I'd Be Happy With Either

I’m not a huge fan of either, but both are very good players. Each hopefully would bring something very positive to the Jets and make the Jets better. Richardson is the higher-ranked player, so in one regard, that would be the way to go. OTOH, Upshaw is rated very highly too, and as the Jets have been looking to upgrade their pass rush for almost 10 years, and it has been a huge need (it’s what prevented them from beating the Colts and making the SB in 2009) I’d have to opt for Upshaw I think.

That said, another alternative might present itself. If Richardson were to drop to #17, there would probably be some team clamoring for his services, so the Jets could quite possibly trade down a few spots adding at least a 3rd if not more because of competition for the pick, and still possibly get Upshaw or one of the other OLBs.
