New York Jets Get 16th Pick in 2012 NFL Draft

Photo

Jane McManus tweets the news about Jets Draft position.

The Jets will have the 16th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, according to ESPN Stats and Info.

We will obviously have more about this as we get deeper into this young offseason. David Wyatt already has a mock up for the Jets. This team has plenty of needs. It will be interesting to see how the team addresses them in free agency. There is a lot unknown at this point.

It is clearly earlier than the Jets have picked the last two years after consecutive trips to the AFC Championship Game. If you remember, the Jets held the 17th pick in the Draft two years ago that allowed them to package a trade up to the 5th pick for Mark Sanchez. That could come into play if Florio's rumor about the Jets not being sold on Sanchez is true.

It’s funny to see everyone freaking out over what Santonio Holmes did, when they’re all doing the same thing. I’m not justifying what he did because it’s wrong, but I’m pretty sure Jets’ fans frustrations over the play calling, the QB, the coaching, and the overrall team performance is the same thing that pissed Holmes off today.

big difference

is most jet fans pay holmes wages . we invest money and support in this team , holmes just takes his check .
if holmes did this in the army he would be court marshaled .

if its for you it won't pass you

True, but I like his angry, frustrated reaction better than the unemotional rehearsed bullshit I heard spewed by Sanchez in his post game press conference. I like that a Jet player was actually angry about what went on this year.

question? do u buy into REX;s comments concerning the Holmes deal?

alot of questions to be answered here, WHO took HOLMES out?..Holmes saying Head Coach..REX saying He didnt make that call..so who is lying Here, I see a Coach trying to protect His BUTT is what I see….I think and I say this without knowing what was said In Huddle, But I have a feeling Holmes indirectly laid into Sanchez!!!!!.I dont think He has any faith-trust in HIS QB!!!..do Jets lkeep Santonio?..as said alot of questions need to be answered here…way more than Us fans may think!!!!

the 3 INT;s were all On Sanchez not the OC!!!!.But when a DL makes 1 Int thats a fluke, But when same DL has 2 in same game that doesnt look good for OL —QB…

Schotty pulled Holmes

Told Ellard to pull him, who had Turner physically take him out.

Why do you say he quit on the seaon? He was pulled by the coach, he didn’t walk off. He’s being crucified for being honest about his frustration.

just because he got pulled doesn't mean he didn't quit.

He said himself he’s slow to get back into the huddle. And other teammates have voiced it as well. It begs the question : was Holmes taking plays off in the last few games?

That from a player, especially your captain who just got a huge contract, is unacceptable.

by PowerBar on Jan 1, 2012 9:23 PM EST up reply actions

this is not the Army

What holmes did is exactly what Sanchez does with his body language after every bad play he does. Holmes is a captain let him be someone needs to step up and light a fire under these guys what did they think this was the first game of the season no it wasnt it was a do a die game and they played as if they didnt care so guess what they died.

I really hope they don't sell away depth and picks to move up an take another QB...

We have so many other needs and our depth is already very thin in key places. If we trade a lot to move up and chase after a QB prospect it would be one of the stupidest things we could do, we have far too many needs on this team for that. Stay put at 16 or even trade back a spot or two and pick up some picks if no one we really want falls to us at 16. At 16 its possible one of the top pass rushers or RT prospects could easily fall to us, that would be a much smarter pick then selling the farm to go out and get another QB.

I agree at 16 we'd be in good position for a fallen OT, WR or even Upshaw.

@16...

… Barron or Upshaw; on of the two impact players will be there and like Wilkerson step in and start in year1, the second round will offer an OT or another player that falls unexpectedly. To take a QB and give up picks would be stupid, this team is very close to taking the next step. Start by replacing the O.C. and go from there, this 8-8 finish is a blessing in disguise. The core of outstanding players is locked up, this season will not handcuff the F.O. with final four free agency rules. The draft will be spent taking players ahead of inferior teams for a change, in every round as the team also has a full compliment of picks in it’s pocket.

by BachsOfRain on Jan 1, 2012 10:08 PM EST up reply actions

Sanders said it best after the game.

It was to this effect. They have three pro-bowlers on the offensive line, they have a pretty good WR set, they should not be as bad as they have been. Either the problem is the OC or the QB, one or both of them have to go.

What about 2 first round draft picks (this year and next) and Sanchez to Indy for luck

I don’t even know if that would do it but would be really interesting to look at if that was possible

USC QB

I would personally stay away from a USC QB no matter how good they look in college because history has taught us that they all are bust in the NFL and the majority lose their starting jobs in just 3 years, hint hint Sanchez also no USC QB ever has won a NFL championship even after winning BCS championships or Heisman trophy its not a good system for QB but defensively they rock.

You can’t draft a QB with your first round pick. Are you going to start over with a rookie QB? The Jets are still a contender and they’re not going to start rebuilding. What do you do with Sanchez? Trade low? What could you get for him if you could even move that contract? What if the rookie you draft isn’t any good? What if you have both? Sanchez would probably beat out a rookie and then that pick is a waste. Jets have major weaknesses that need fixing, and as disappointing as Sanchez has been, he’s at best a minor weakness. Only if you could somehow get a superstar QB, you’re going to stay with Sanchez.

Would love to see the Jets pick up Bruce Irvin in the 2nd or 3rd round.

Dude has been double teamed all year in a 3-3-5 (allowing Miller to become a viable draft prospect). Put him in an actual scheme and I think he can dominate.

Would prefer seeing him on my Giants, but he’d never work in a 4-3.

Trade back

And get Mike Adams at the end of round 1. Get Vinny Curry/Bruce Irvin and Nick Toon in round two. Add a S, TE, more LB and OL depth, get Bryan Anger in round 6 or 7. Sign Thomas DeCoud or Michael Griffin, and a new kicker.

Also, get Rex a muzzle, and then send Schotty and Cavanaugh packing.

DONE.

Watch 'Bama...

… play L.S.U. and you may see the value of taking M. Barron in Rd. #1, The best (S) in the draft without a doubt, could be the best (S) in the NFL very soon. I like Upshaw too if Barron is gone, some mocks have M. Barron being the best player available. I have seen him play and we could use him from day 1, big upgrade to the D.

I wouldn't go RT in the draft

Get a veteran. We don’t even need someone that a pro bowler. We just need someone that’s decent. it would be a huge step up from Hunter. Who knows, maybe Turner will turn into a starter, or Vlad (even though he looked HORRIBLE) might even improve with an entire offseason of coaching.

the 16th pick is worth 1000 points

we could trade back to the 20 pick ( 850 pts ) and get an extra 3rd round pick 84 ( 170pts )
or we could trade back to the 26th pick ( 700pts) and get a 2nd round pick 58( 320 pts)

both seem very viable options considering the extra player we could get a 58 or 84 could very well have starting potential on this team

if its for you it won't pass you

by tinley24 on Jan 1, 2012 9:42 PM EST reply actions   1 recs

That would be awesome...

Moving back and picking up an extra high round pick could do wonders for our depth and filling our needs. If there is no one there at 16 that we really need/want I hope we trade back a bit and pick up some extra firepower in the draft.

by RhodesRocks on Jan 1, 2012 9:47 PM EST up reply actions

Makes sense...

… to me, if your target’s (Barron/Upshaw) are gone, why not trade back. I mean with (S);(OT) and (OLB/DE) being your glaring needs. Picking up (3) starters in the draft would be awesome and attainable. Look at what last season brought as M. Wilkerson and Kerley both stepping up in year “R”. This point should be moot as well as I see M. Barron falling to the Jets.

by BachsOfRain on Jan 1, 2012 10:33 PM EST up reply actions

I'm thinking we could, with our pick, take upshaw or barron

if one of them is already taken, we take the other one. or as others have suggested, we could trade back and try to get another 2nd or 3rd round pick.

with the top pick best available player at Olineman or Safety or LB and draft respectively at those positions for the best available players, use WR for a last selection after the previous 3 positions have been drafted

We’d be stupid to not take the best prospect available at 16 between the positions of OLB, RT, WR, S, or even RB.

Courtney Upshaw, Alshon Jeffery, Barron, Lamar Miller, or Michael Floyd are the guys I like to be there around that pick.
