Muhammad Wilkerson Fined $10,000 for Altercation With Brandon Jacobs

Jets rookie defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson was fined $10,000 for the altercation with Brandon Jacobs that led to his ejection in Gang Green's preseason game with the Giants.

... Jacobs hit for $20k for unsportsmanlike conduct, Wilkerson $10k.

Jacobs got twice the fine. That seems fair considering he seemed like the instigator.

There seems to be a lot of chatter going back and forth between the Jets and Giants, and that preseason game was very chippy. There seems to be a lot of bad blood. The Christmas Eve game is going to be very intense.

Giants fans already seemed to be in a fury with the Jets today because of some shots Plaxico Burress took. Then I saw some crazy Sal Alosi conspiracy accusations made against Mike Westhoff and Westhoff get names by Giants fans because he expressed disappointment in the job Steve Weatherford did with the Jets last year. That seems a bit over the top. I mean it just seems like he was asked a question, and there was clearly a reason the Jets didn't try and keep Weatherford. I disagreed with the substance of what Westhoff said because I thought Weatherford was good last year. Why Giants fans responded with such vitriol is puzzling.

At any rate, I am sure this will bring even more fury from across town.

Unfortunately for Jacobs,

you aren’t one of the professionals with the league that decides what’s what. I think they have a tad more knowledge of the situation then you do.

I think you are alluding to the Hard Knocks clip from last year, which is perfectly fine, but I’m guessing the league saw that too and questioned all parties involved.

I can understand it

The Jets have had more success in the last two years going to Championship games and the Giants haven’t. They didn’t do much in the offseason while the Eagles stocked up. Then they’ve been crushed by injuries and there’s Plaxico choosing the Jets over the Giants and now his comments. What Westie said wasn’t so bad it’s just the last in a long line of problems and perceived slights.

And the shock is that a coach would say that about a player. That would never happen in the Giants’ organization. Players are expected to do stupid things. Coaches are supposed to show some class. You look at every cut the Giants made, Coughlin had nothing but good things to say about the guys. Matt Dodge had several awful moments last year, he went out with a pat on the back.

We're more shocked about his reason for letting Weatherford go

He criticizes the punting average of a punter who put 50% of his kicks inside 20. Tied a NFL record with 42. Does Westhoff realize that’s a good thing? That it purposely lowered his kick average?

A lot of people talk about salary demands, but I don’t think the Giants gave him much. I think the heart condition may have played a part in the decision.
