The Jets have made some quarterback moves. Greg McElroy's surgically repaired thumb lands him on IR. Kevin O'Connell returns to Florham Park after failing to make Miami's roster.

Rookie QB Greg McElroy was put on season-ending injured reserve after having thumb surgery on Monday.

The Jets brought back Kevin O’Connell to be their third quarterback behind Mark Sanchez and Mark Brunell. O’Connell spent the past two seasons with the Jets organization, and was cut by the Dolphins earlier in the week,

O'Connell is not a great option as a third quarterback, but nobody has a great option there. He is more functional than Jeremy Kerley at least and knows the system even if he never looked good in preseason and the team gave up on him twice in the past year plus.

It is a tough blow for McElroy coming off a good preseason, but he was never meant to see the field anyway this year. 2011 is all about learning the playbook, adjusting to the NFL game by observing and learning, and hitting the weight room to add some meat to his slender frame so he can drive balls better into tight windows.
