Nick Mangold Has Injured Ankle; It Is Not Broken

Nick Mangold left the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the first half with an apparent ankle injury. We have some updates from some beat writers.

Rod Boone:

Nick Mangold is wearing a walking boot and is on crutches. Said he's been told it's not broken

Jane McManus:

Nick Mangold had boot on right ankle and crutches. It's a sprain, was on sideline in 2Q because he hopes he could return to game.

Manish Mehta:

Nick Mangold in a boot. Says right ankle not broken. He's unsure if it's a high ankle sprain. MRI tomorrow

I was terrified it was a serious knee injury when I saw the way the leg bent. The fact he avoided that is something of a good sign. Nick is not out of the woods yet, though. High ankle sprains can be quite serious. It is probably not season ending, but it could cost him some time or at least affect him. If there is one thing we know about Nick Mangold, though, it is that he is extremely tough. Collin Baxter had a rough time in his place today. With a run of teams with really good interior linemen coming up starting next week in Oakland, the Jets need him back at full strength as soon as possible.

great game guys

defense all the way, I know McCown got crushed, but we held you to 283 yards, which isn’t that bad. good luck this season.

Mangold is on crutches, and a walking boot. Says it’s precautionary.

Mr T better start scouring the FA lists for O-lineman.

To keep playing Hunter is like building a house on a mud slide hill overlooking the San Andreas fault. Everyone dies.

All I thought about was that guy who got happy when the Pats center went down

Karma can happen especially to those who show no appreciation to the game. Glad he’s alright.

I agree, high ankle sprains can be a bitch.

Glad its not broken, but a high ankle sprain is exactly all that much better an option.

Don't celebrate yet

A high ankle sprain can take weeks to get back in service.

This is What I Was Worried About

I thought it extremely foolish for a team hoping to return to the AFC Championship Game this year and then the SB to go into the season without veteran OL depth. At a minimum this has to be blamed on Tanny and quite possibly, Rex too. Are you Tanny lovers still in love with him? Considering the way Baxter played today, the season could go downhill in a hurry if Mangold is out for any length of time. Hopefully, he won’t be.

To be clear, I still love Rex and like Tanny, but there is no reason for the team to be in this position. I hope this gets their attention and they learn from their mistake.

Shades of 1999…

As far as picking up depth in the offseason, our shopping list consisted of Nnamdi Asomugha, and not much else. We didn’t seem to have a plan b

Baxter was not supposed to be the backup center. The guy who was supposed to be broke his leg.

Some patience

This Baxter kid was not flat out horrIble. In his defense, he did not have training camp with his current team mate, he also did not take snaps in practice this week with the 1st team olinemen. He also was trust in the middle of a game. Even veteran players find it difficult. lets wait and see this kids game when he has had full practice and some taken some consistent snaps, before we go looking for some help. Hunter’s play, I think is where we got serious problem.

hope we get nick back.

McfaDDEN is playing great and it would be nice to have him in oakland. Like how we are banking these wins off to a great start hoping for a win next week too 3-0 is an awful nice start.
