I had no problem with last nights win. A win is a win, no matter how ugly it is. I'm also not an expert coach, but I do know a lot about football. Hindsight is always 20/20, so I'll try not to say you shoulda done this instead of that, just point out things that anyone educated on football would notice. The playcalling was odd. The strength of the offense has always been running the ball. The team drafted a 4th running back which they kept on the team, and even though he was inactive they had Greene, Tomlinson, and McKnight. 3 running backs and 2 new wide receivers to get used to. The first drive is always scripted and sometimes the first 20+ plays. At the end of the first half Greene had 4 carries and LT had 3 carries. That's just strange in my opinion. For the game Sanchez threw 44 times. 15 of those should have been carries for the backs. Hopefully next week they will come out running early and often against the Jags. Even if your getting 3 and 4 yard runs, there are enough backs to stay fresh until you start popping 10 and 15 yard runs. Sanchez has always been at his best when working off play action. Next thing I noticed was that Schottenheimer was playcalling the game with tunnel vision. with 30 seconds left in the game he called consecutive passing plays which stopped the clock, rather than running the ball from around the 30 yard line and calling a time out with 2 seconds left. While it didn't hurt them on Sunday, why leave your oponent with time left on the clock? If the Cowboys take the kickoff and run it back for a TD you blew the game on a few bad passing calls. He's a professional, shouldn't he know this? Defensively, the linebackers looked good in run defense and pass rushing. They all looked terrible in pass coverage. Scott, Pace, and Thomas all had trouble covering running backs and tight ends. Maybe in the future when playing man they can still play a shell zone coverage underneath and in the flats for the future. I don't know if that's the answer, but just an idea to stop getting eaten by 30 yard catch and run plays. Altogether, solid outing. Good win, despite not being prepared. That's what it looked like honestly. Like they were not prepared. Hopefully, game 2 will see those things rectified.
