Shaun Ellis To Patriots
Per Adam Schefter: Filed to ESPN: Former Jets DE Shaun Ellis and the Patriots reached agreement on a one-year deal, pending the player's physical.
This isn't out of nowhere, but is disappointing. Someone put it: "a good way to tarnish his legacy".
I'm bitter, but respectful. The guy went where the money was, but the Pats! (I know this is nothing new) It hurts every time. (Let's just hope he doesn't have a second coming, causing the football world to hail to "cheater")

To be fair
the title of Brian W’s post dosn’t say a thing about what he’s talking about. Are you saying Hortonton needs to read all the posts with vague titles before he writes about something he wants to talk about?
Whats the big deal? This post has a poll and the other has BrianW trying to make a point about Ellis knowing too much about the defense. They are both different.
he has a point
Anyway, they’re both paragraph posts, and nothing to write home about. If they’re gonna do something like that they might as well post it off topic somewhere else, it’s junking the site up. Rex is absolutely right, I don’t want to see people jumping on him for it.
Since this one has more real words and info in it, this article wins and gets to stay up.

I agree with whos is better. I also think people shouldn’t be so vague with titles. It does confuse things and makes it harder to make sure your the first to post info. I guess what Im saying is I could understand why a mistake might have been made and I don’t think somebody should jump on a guy for writing a post and making an honest mistake. No big deal. I would have been happy posting on both because both have threads that were shaping different topic points.
my bad....
im still really new here and nobody had made a post about it yet… didn’t mean to make anyone mad or whatever. I think ill just stick to trolling instead of posting, i seem to be better at that. :)

No you where first
But if you are going to post something make sure to make it something more than just a paragraph…those type of posts are spamming our posts

was in a rush at work
so had to post quickly. have a little more time now. where i was going to go with my post was:
- There is now no veteran leadership on the D-Line for K.Ellis and Wilkerson to learn from. Wilkerson is now going to be the starter Day 1 (most likely)
- The Pats now have an information bank of the Jets. Whether or now Ellis will tell them stuff about us is up to him. I would hope he has more respect than that. Which leads into:
- if he does give hints or info about the team. Alot of things need to change on both sides of the ball. Audibles, signs, etc. We dont know how far that goes. The problem with this is that not only is the first pre-season game in a week, but the new guys and rookies just learning the system will have to change somethings up, making the transition even more difficult.
And thats just the facts, not even the physical player Ellis on the field against the Jets. I dont think he will have that big of an impact, hes a role player at best.
Some people will say: no we dont have to worry about all that, but the fact is its the Patriots so yes we do, and Rex will definately agree
anyway… sorry about the vague title post, I know for next time.

i just can’t stand these paragraph posts. if you only have enough time to write a paragraph, then make it a fanshot. i don’t mind the news, but unless you have something meaty, make it a fanshot

It's ok Brian
To be honest I liked the emotion you were giving in your fanpost. I’m the kind of guy who likes to be the one who tries to put things in a more calm perspective when someone is emotionally reacting to big news like that. I could have had alot of fun going back and fourth with a “cliff-jumper” type. Not to say your someone who overreacts but I saw a teeny bit of panic in what you were saying. Haha
The idea of a player giving away info
Yes, he certainly will have some intel. But nothing to worry about. BB could see it all on tape anyway. And signals change all the time to deal with this.
So Let It Be Written, So Let it Be Done.
No dude, please don't apologize, we wan't people to post.
And it’s OK to try to break news.
It’s just if there’s FanPost congestion and two say the same thing I’m prolly gonna hide one of them. I can always repost your info from the other FanPost in this post.
Breaking news is also really good as a fanshot, lower on the page. People neglect fanshots. Poor fanshots, all alone in the world.

Im sorry
I’m a little late to read this. Sorry about the double dipping on the post. I didn’t read the previous posts, and saw that the site was lacking the breaking news, so I wanted to get it out as soon as possible. For future reference, i’ll use the fanshot section.
Doesn't even really matter
as long as you don’t chronically post short fanposts, it’s fine.

Still pissed. Makes me sick to my stomach.

The worse part is
he signed at veteran minimum pay…I don’t get it. Isn’t that the same thing we offered him?

for real?
If that is true then my respect for S Ellis has dropped but still respect him for what he has meant for the Jets these past years. But if he sign for the same we offered him that really sucks and seems like it can’t happen. That would be a total slap in our face.
I hope this happens
“Another Jet joked that Ellis might want to hold back some of the good information so that he doesn’t get cut before Week 1, when salaries are guaranteed.”
Should you choose to test my resolve in this matter, you will be facing a finality beyond your comprehension, and you will not be counting days, or months, or years, but milleniums in a place with no doors.
Well...
To be fair to both Ellis and Braylon (more Ellis), they both decided to sign somewhere else because the Jets are really slapping people in the face with this minimum salary business. Ellis has been a Jet for his whole career and has contributed throughout, ESPECIALLY when it counted. We shouldn’t have given him the minimum. I’m sorry to say this, but I kind of resented the FO for this because, well… It’s ELLIS! Hell, I’d give him 3mm on top of the 910k just because. I don’t blame him one bit for going to a contender, and no one else should be made either. You slap me in the face, I’m going to back-hand you twice just because it’ll make me feel good. And that’s exactly what Ellis just did. So I’m indfferent about it. I don’t like the move, but I don’t like what the FO did to him either. That was BS on the there part. I can understand Braylon, and why they didn’t want to pay him the top dollar he was asking. But Ellis came to work every year for dang near a decade. Are we seriously going to put blame on him for making a move to a rival especially when the Jets really don’t know how to treat their vets? I wish Ellis the best for 14 Sundays, and we’ll crush him if he steps foot in the playoffs. End of story.

I put God first! Anything else comes a distant second, next to a cross-country third.
Being that I'm Nigerian, being a Jets' Fan only comes natural... it's all about that old Green and White.
You see, it's not about how you won the game, it's about how you played the game.... there's a difference. If you don't understand this, then you're losing big time.
But didn't Ellis already get that big contract a few years ago?
I’m sorry, I don’t see how the the offer from the Jets was a slap in the face. He’s only going to play probably another year or two so why would the Jets offer him another big contract.

I didn’t say that had to offer him a big contract. What I’m saying is dude has played for the Jets for 11 years… just take care of him. If you think he is only worth a little less than a mil, offer him 2mm just because. Take care of your own.

He doesn't need a big contract
But we offered our third leading sack the veteran minimum. If you don’t think that’s an insult, fine, I can’t convince you. But like it or not it’s absolutely BEGGING a player to go sign with another team.

I don’t know why but that just made me laugh :o)
Okay I see what you are getting at and maybe the Jets could’ve offered him a couple of million bucks. But from what I’ve read he went to the Pats for the same deal…that’s the thing that bothers me the most about this thing.
The whole salary cap thing confuses the hell out of me because some people are saying the Jets have money to spend but Rex has said they have very little. Which is it?
"In this country, you gotta make the money first. Then when you get the money, you get the power. Then when you get the power, then you get the women."

You'll never really know untill it's all over.
“Cap-ologists” or so-called salary cap experts claim to know what a team really has available to spend but to be honest the rules (even with the new cba) are too confusing for a fan to figure out.
Case in point: This year the Jets were spared Vernon Gholston’s cap hit due to some loopholes involving the time in which he was cut from the team. They cut him before the dead line so his money didn’t count against the team this year. This was something NOBODY (except for the Jets) was taking into consideration until some random cap specialists spoke up.
Also: Teams can restructure a willing players contract without the media knowing for a while so it really is almost impossible to tell how much the Jets(or anybody) have to blow on FA’s.
But part of the fun is watching the rest of the NFL watch in awe as Tanny works his magic every year. A new player getting signed is almost like waking up on X-mas morning a finding that you get one extra present and everyone has to watch you play with it.
I agree..
It was insulting for us to offer the man the lowest possible offer we could possibly make him. We made him the worst possible offer we could and then when he signs somewhere else people are mad at him? I don’t know what he signed for up there but I’m betting if we didn’t slap him in the face with vet min to begin with he would have gladly given us a chance to match the other offer. When you offer a guy a shit deal like that your letting him know exactly what you think of him. Even offering him an extra few hundred thousand would make it seem like an actual offer. I’m thinking if we offered him 1.5-2 mil a year he would have gladly signed the contract(If he signed for vets min in NE…I only read that here though didn’t see details disclosed anywhere else). In any case his veteran leadership and the depth he would have provided on the D-Line is definitely worth a few hundred thousand dollars. I’ve been annoyed at the way our FO has handled players this free agency and this only adds to it.
I voted betrayed, betrayed by the Jets! Offering Ellis the league minimum is just wrong. Can anybody answer what the contract the Pattie’s offered him? If it isn’t much more, the Jets should have anted up and gave him a few bucks and I can’t imagine Kraft and his cheating coach paying Ellis much more.
Yahoo said:
" He ended up signing a larger contract with New England that could be worth as much as $5 million this year depending on incentives." That being said I’m not sure exactly how much is guaranteed and what not but still way better offer then Vet’s Min any way you cut it.
5 MILLIION!
Is it 5 mil this year or over 2 years? Even over 2 years its more than double what the Jets were offering. I don’t blame him. Not only a lot more money, it was disrespectful of the Jets. C’mon Rex and Mike, show more class, we are better than that, Ellis was a staple for years and he has to have something left in him.
