Ryan says that fullback John Conner is in a walking boot with a left ankle injury, but he hopes he’ll be ready for the season opener on Sept. 11 against Dallas.

Gotta hate losing guys in preseason. I was a bit surprised to see the Jets have Antonio Cromartie run back a kickoff last night for just that reason.

In an ideal world, Conner would return soon. The Jets do have other options. They could use somebody like Matthew Mulligan at the position as many responsibilities of fullbacks and tight ends are similar. Alternatively, it does not seem like this is going to be a long term thing, but the Jets can get a very good fullback, Tony Richardson, on the phone if this thing was going to make Conner miss a lot of time. He still does not have a team to call home in 2011.
