Mike Tannenbaum on Plaxico Burress

GLENDALE, AZ - FEBRUARY 03: (FILE PHOTO) Wide receiver Plaxico Burress #17 of the New York Giants catches a 13-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter against the New England Patriots during Super Bowl XLII on February 3, 2008 at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Plaxico Burress, a former New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers receiver, who is known for his winning touchdown in the 2008 Super Bowl, has reportedly agreed to sign with the New York Jets. The contract will be, reportedly, for one year. (Photo by Streeter Lecka/Getty Images)

Mike Tannenbaum went on The Michael Kay Show on ESPN Radio 1050 in New York and spoke about many topics including Plaxico Burress.

"Given his physical attributes, we think he’s going to help us this year. Will he be 100 percent the same player? Obviously that’s hard to say. Even if he starts off at whatever, 60 or 70 percent of what he was, and as the season goes on, improves, we really feel like his stature and his ability in the red zone is going to help us. We appreciate the fact that it’s going to be a little bit of a work in progress."

I agree with Mike that Plaxico can help the team in certain situations. Since he readily admits that nobody knows how much he will be able to contribute, though, I wonder why the team is reportedly shopping Jerricho Cotchery. I would have a tough time with that one unless it was to make a move like resigning Braylon Edwards to a cheap contract. And that is tough to believe because the Jets gave Braylon's number away, which shows they have moved on. You don't give away a guy's number if you think there is even the slightest chance you will bring him back.
