J-co Vs Thomas
We have heard that the jets have been trying to free up more space and J-co has been mentioned. Now I don't know the extent of his injury, but he is a fierce player. For proof watch the Browns game where he pulled his groin and still made a diving catch. There is another option making similar money Bryan Thomas. Thomas is great, but he is a OLB that doesn't give us enough of a pass rush. He can be replaced by guys like Antwan Odom, Cliff Avril (restricted), Trevor Scott (restricted), Tully Banta-Cain, Matt Roth and Osi (although I doubt we will trade a 1st rounder for him).
If we did get rid of J-co our options would be:
Steve Smith (WR)
T.O. (WR)
Tj Houshmandzadeh (WR)
Kevin Boss (TE)
Zack Miller (TE)
Whats the better option, your thoughts?

The difference is there's a buttload of OLB's
nobody will want Bryan Thomas. Jets are trying to get value for Cotch in addition to clearing cap space.
Arm chair GM.
he can also play DE in a 4-3. there may be a taker
btw miller is out probably out. most likely to sign with seahawks
We are in another atmosphere. You're just in the Troposhere we in the Exospere. In other words the JETS are higher than you!
J-Co is much more valuable to us, than the to any other team, vs. B. Thomas. Keep Cotch, end of story
this guy is a jet moreso than everyone is saying Bray defined the meaning of “play like a jet”
Cotch defined it, Bray just followed by example.
crackback
if that were a viable option i think the jets would jump at it. Don’t know if the giants would want thomas.

Why not?
He can play strongside backer for them. Lord knows they don’t have a backer worth a damn. And J-Co adds veteran savvy to their receiver corps.
Win win all around.

agreed on j-co nt on thomas
they run a 4-3 base and thomas would be a DE in that set up. granted they run many different sets for their overload of DE’s. Thats why kiwanuka is considered a DE/LB. But he could’t be a OLB in their base sets

He was
Kiwi Started at OLB in their 4-3 for like 14 games to depth issues and just how athletic he is
sorry

yes...but
manny’s speed at olb is special. His boom is great. I’ve heard of bringing both in. Don’t know how realistic that is.

If we get rid of Cotchery...
can we keep Bray?
I like Cotch a lot, but I think Bray is certainly the better receiver, no?

Too much money
How much cap space do the jets have left and how much money would manny/Roth cost
not even 1 mil
this is from what ive seen
We are in another atmosphere. You're just in the Troposhere we in the Exospere. In other words the JETS are higher than you!
could be more
depending on restructures. not sure if mark’s restructuring was included in the data i found

What about if we Cut thomas too?
And sign an OLB on the cheep and Braylon?
braylon not an option
braylon wants no. 1 money, which is around 7-13 mil. too much for him. and if we keep j-co whats the point of adding bray? and bray seems done with the jets anyway.

I was saying if we cut Thomas and Trade J.Co....
We would have about 7-8 million…that’s enough money for Braylon and a unflashy but Vet OLB. Lets face it I don’t think anyone thinks that Thomas is worth any where near his contract, hes a solid player but honestly what he does could be done by someone much cheaper then him. No one is really beating down the doors to offer Braylon a deal so who knows what he could be got for.
I totally agree with this.
I just don’t understand why we are paying this guy so much. BT can easily be replaced. Thats why I said trade him and a 2nd for Osi. OR Drop him and pick up Zach Miller (if you seriously want to trade J. Co)
I’d rather keep J. Co and go with the former.
GANG GREEN ALL DAY!
I put God first! Anything else comes a distant second, next to a cross-country third.
Being that I'm Nigerian, being a Jets' Fan only comes natural... it's all about that old Green and White.
You see, it's not about how you won the game, it's about how you played the game.... there's a difference. If you don't understand this, then you're losing big time.
well i'm not sure what counts against cap.
whether its only the top 51 or everyone including practice squad. also not sure whether dead money is included in their calculations so its either 8 mil or less than 1. not sure…site needs to be a lil more specific

it seems like a crap shoot, but tanny is a cap wizard and if he fells like this is worth exploring then i believe him.

Why screw up the chemistry between Mark and Cotch?
What kind of money could we save, a few million? Who else could we be going after at this point anyways? I mean its not Braylon..so idk.
well...
bryan would give use about 3.7 mil and j-co would be 3.8. Thing is J-co would have to be traded to get that much while Bryan can be cut. this is dues to bonus money

Keep Chrebet
After the uproar that has occured over the last couple of days due to the Jets parting ways with Bray, how can anyone be in favor of trading Cotchery? Hes the only reliable receiver left on the team who isnt facing a year suspension if he screws up. Besides, we already added one new receiver to the mix, adding 2 is sure to hurt the passing game, especially early on.
As for thomas, hes gonna stay. The jets didnt approach him about restructuring(they asked everyone else), and if they were gonna cut him they woulda done it already. Lawson is the more practical linebacker. His speed and coverage skills are needed, and he could free up Pace to become a rush-only LB. Roth has good potential, but gives you nothing in coverage. Getting both would be nice, both Lawson should be the primary target.
ive been on the manny banwagon
i think his quickness and size are just what we need. a guy who can make a quick move instead of a guy who needs to battle a while to get free.
We are in another atmosphere. You're just in the Troposhere we in the Exospere. In other words the JETS are higher than you!
NYJ isn't getting Miller and TO has a torn ACL.
Steve Smith (NYG) is really the best option, but why not keep Cotchery? Smith would be more expensive…
- Attempting to debate with a person who has abandoned reason is like giving medicine to the dead.
- Defeat isn't bitter if you don't swallow it.
u didn't see my earlier reply
miller will sign with the seahawks. and smith may not be that expensive. he is also coming off of an injury which is why he hasn’t signed

Manny Lawson gone to Cincy. no more Lawson bandwagon.
I think Jim Leonhard should be in the next Nike "Boom" Commercial or at least the next time he makes one of those tackles he needs to jump up with a can of Kool-Aid and shout "Oh yeah".
yeah but still plenty of good pass rushers
roth, ernie sims, and a newest addition Antwan Odom

13 sacks in 8 games isn’t true. He had 8 sacks in 6 games during the 2009 season. 5 of which came in 1 game against the Packers.

No to Antwan Odom. He is a complete mess. The last 2 seasons he has played a whopping 10 games. 2 years ago, during week 6, he tore his achilles tendon which caused him to miss the remainder of the season. Last year, he only played in 4 games. During October, he suffered an ankle injury and was put on the injured reserve in December. He also was suspended 4 games for a viiolation of the league’s policy on performance enhancing drugs.

Holy crap that was an incredible play
probably my favorite of the year besides a couple of Santonio and B. Smith TD’s.
Great job by Sanchez. AMAZING job by cotch.

I seriously love watching that play. Poor Cotch was all gimpy and limpy and was like… oh shit.. he’s really gonna throw that at me… and bam.. full parallel to the ground and beautiful catch! And that was after Mr. Butterfinger Sanchez dancing all around back there in OT at 20-up. It’s just beautiful.

Rex likes westerman
he said “it time to unleash him”. Mayb he can be the pass rush guy. Rex said he is a designated pass rusher. If westerman becomes good i think his nickname should be “The Kraken” just so we can say “UNLEASH THE KRAKEN” on every sack

End result of trading Cotchery will be negative
What is the end goal of trading J.Co?
I don’t see how it could have a positive net effect for the team. True the team may “save” some money to pick up another free agent, but they’re just going to turn around and use it on another WR (at least a huge portion of it). Its not like the FO feels secure going into the season with Holmes, Plax (remember when he was called Plexiglass b/c he couldn’t stay on the field – before going to jail for two years – and he was in his prime?), Turner, and Kerley? Yikes…
What WR would realistically be an upgrade over J.Co that would cost less money? Plus, Cotchery adds a different dimension to the WR squad. Holmes is quick and shifty, runs good routes. Plax is big, tall, and a big endzone target. We all expect Turner to get better and be a quick down-the-field guy, while Kerley might be a good wildcat/tbd dude. Cotch is the sure-handed possession/third-down and Sanchez is about to get hit guy.
I was going to continue this rant with a point about the FO dumping off their long-time guys, but I’ll do that in a more appropriate area.

Damn…I swear I read a post by joeklecko recently that kind of tee’d off on the Jets’ FO for dumping aging, homegrown talent prematurely or unnecessarily – but couldn’t find it. I don’t want to bog this down, but real quick:
It seems like an absolute must to have leadership, continuity, and knowledge of the various systems at each position for a team to win the Super Bowl. While I am thrilled with the Jets right now, I think they have been messing around on a slippery slope ever since they parted ways with Chad Pennington (who was an intelligent leader that was loved in the locker room) for Brett Favre (a 1-year rental). Most true fans were not thrilled with the signing, but the team got a ton of press and all these young kids jumped on the bandwagon – and then when the team started losing, a lot of these new “fans” stopped paying attention.
There are certain players (e.g., Shaun Ellis) who should be Jets – unless there are extenuating circumstances why we have to part ways (excessively high contracts would make the J.Co situation more understandable).
Someone could argue: Look at the Patriots! They treat the players like crap. They have no problem cutting their homegrown talent after a decade of service! They still win it all. Well, I’m not sure if they have won much since they started treating players like that.
Personally, I think I would rather sacrifice winning it all to remain competitive with a team and players that I love and feel connected with. I mean, this is entertainment, right? Would you guys rather watch (1) guys you love and have put your energy into or (2) rentals and crap. I freaking hated Jason Taylor. I still hate that douchebag. If we won the super bowl last year, I’d still hate that douche. I mean, I’ve been waiting forever to have that SB feeling, but after the partying, the following season would be just another season with a bunch of douchebags on our team, you know?
Yes, I might have a banner in my basement or something, but you get what I’m saying…or I might not be explaining this well.
