I admit, like a lot of people here, I was high on Nnamdi Asomugha. Now that he's gone though, we should discuss the #2 and #3 positions on the roster. I have said before that I have a lot of faith in Kyle Wilson in the #2 role, especially if he is allowed to return to the outside where he is more natural and better at coverage. To that end, I propose we sign Chris Carr for the position of #3 CB.
Chris Carr is 28 years old, and played college ball at Boise State, like Wilson. He currently plays for the Baltimore Ravens as their nickel CB in the #3 spot. He is a quick, shifty guy that can cover slot receivers. He has also been used as a kick returner in the past, which is noteworthy since Brad Smith is gone. He used to play with the Raiders, and is their all-time kickoff return leader. This past year, he had three forced fumbles, and the previous year he had two forced fumbles. Each of the past two years he has had two interceptions as well. One report from the Ravens Insider says, "Carr has been a solid fit for the Ravens. He’s smart, versatile and a tough tackler."
Carr would also be a relatively cheap option, and could be gotten for less than $5 mil a year, although I'm not certain on his specific worth. This would allow us to sign another pass rusher.
I expect the biggest controversy in this is whether Kyle Wilson can step up as the #2, rather than needing to retain Antonio Cromartie. I believe he can. What say you?
