So it is semi-old news about James Harrison's interview with Men's Journal. He has just bashed Big Ben and Rashard Mendenhall publicly and has done a lot of harm to his team and the franchise. It would be un-Rooney like to keep Harrison after this latest off-the field fiasco that Harrison has created.
In an offseason where they have had multiple PR problems (almost as bad as Lebron and how bad and stupid he is in front of a mic) this latest incident takes the cake. I think that Harrison will be traded away to the highest bidder soon after the lockout ends, and we all know how Mr.T and Rex LOVE to trade for players with a troubled history. Another thing we know is that the OLB position is one that is a little lackluster and is due for an upgrade and we already have recent trade history with the Steelers and their troubled playmakers . Those three components equal a good possibility that the Jets at least make an inquiry to the Rooney's on the availability of Jerome Harrison.
Sure he is 33 and isn't a long-term resolution to our pass rushing needs, but we are in a win now phase and he would be an outstanding upgrade. A possible Harrison acquistion is kind of like a boob job. It may sound bad, but with the right surgeon, a depleted chest can turn into a temporary "upgrade". It just so happens that we have the two best surgeons in the country that use troubled players and turn them into an impacting acquisition.
I know, I know, the boob job analogy is a bit of a stretch but saying he is a band aid might not exactly justify the acquistion, and it isn;t a complete transformation (like a Clay Matthews acquistion would be) but I think I would be ok with it if it were for a second or 3rd rounder. Oh and if my memory serves me coreectly he has 3 years left on his contract and is in the 5-7 mil range per year on his contract.
Would he help our pass rush? Did he benefit too much from a stellar Steeler defense? I am not sure where I stand in my own ponderings, but I am curious to see yours.
