Braylon Edwards is one of my favorite players now. He should be a Jet fan favorite. It is not too often that you find a player that is willing to take a paycut so that he can help the team out as much as he can. Not only do I think he is the better option between him and Santonio Holmes; he is the safer one. We have already made one AFC Championship with him and without Santonio, but I think that our offense benefits more from the type of player that Braylon is.
He is great in run blocking; (and I do think that Rex is going to make the offense's identity a ground-and-pound offense; hence Bilal Powell) he gives us a deep field threat for Sanchez, and he is a team player. One that I don't believe has complained from a lack of being thrown at. Yes, Holmes game changing catches will be missed, but we shouldn't have to get ourselves out of that hole to begin with. And I think that our offense will be more productive then when we had Holmes.
Sanchez had to focus on getting the ball all over the place and satisfying multiple teammates; whereas he could make Edwards and Keller (who'll be the league-leading TE in receptions if Holmes is gone) and not have to worry about people complaining about not getting the ball. Our offense becomes more cohesive and we have our identity through our running game. Holmes is too expensive (and there are plenty of FA WR that'll be much cheaper and could do great things as a Jet; Mike Sims Walker comes to mind) and Holmes is a luxury that'll cost too much.
