I wouldn't mind adding Ocho
I know that this my take on Ocho is different than probably 90% of the people who read and blog on this site, but I think Ocho could do well here. There has been no buzz about 85 joining the Jets, in fact another accomplished veteran is being rumored with the Jets; Revis' best friend Randy Moss. Imo Moss would not be a good fit on this team. His effort simply isn't being shown on the field. When Revis called him a slouch he had good reason for it. He would give away running plays by his lack of intensity and by just stading on the line, he seemed to have just given up on the season.
Although Ochocinco's numbers were't even average this past year (67 rec, 831 yards, 4td's) I think that he would be a great replacement for Santonio Holmes if he leaves via free agency. Chad is a speedy route runner with good, not great hands. He stretches the field and doesn't fear going over the middle. However the biggest positive about adding Ocho is his desire to win. Randy Moss has been on winning teams, Chad has not and he is frustrated by the Bengals franchise. There are no character concerns with Chad, but he has complained about teammates before not getting him the ball. If he were to come here being ok with knowing that he may only get targeted 80-100 times then I say why not? He'll probably come at 750k-2 mill tops, he wants to win, he replaces Holmes with his speed, decent playmaking ability, willingness to go over the middle and desire to win a super bowl.
He isn't the missing piece to a Super Bowl, but he should be able to contribute. Last years numbers likely won't be as bad as they were last year, but they won't be anything spectacular. He could potentially be a great red zone target and get 6 or 8 td's.
My belief about our WR situation is that we don't need Holmes and Edwards. It becomes to much of a distraction trying to get everyone the ball. As it is we have Edwards or Holmes (I prefer Edwards because he'll fit the ground and pound offense better), Keller and J CO. Having Ocho would primarily be used so that Braylon isn't doubled up on and thrown to for short passes. I only bring up Ocho because of all this nonsense about us signing Randy Moss.

Imo another guy worth mentioning is
Terrell Owens. Another above average playmaker who is a solid route runner and has decent speed.. He isn’t the burner that Holmes is, but he would be a solid short completio receiver and he can stretch the field whereas guys like Moss don’t
Dont think Mike Brown will let him go
He has a team option so Mike Brown probably wont let him go I am all for Ocho but dont see him as a great replacement for Holmes, he or TO would be a great replacement for Edwards but I think to replace Holmes you should replace him with another speed guy
Also
Woudnt expect to get him for 2 mill tops TO played for 2 Mill last year think Ocho could catch as much as 3 and half maybe more
i wouldn't mind ocho
he is not half as bad as moss, and he can still catch. if we can’t have holmes, i wouldn’t mind him.
"it's not easy being green"-kermit the frog
"we the mets are an improved ball club, now we lose in extra innings"-casy stengal
i cant spell a nosebleed
he's gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!OLIE PEREZ IS GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ocho sucks.
And he could care less about winning. All he cares about is being noticed, and talked about. When he doesn’t get his catches, he berates his QB on the sidelines and throws a hissy fit.
He isnt getting catches in Cinci
At 32 Ocho will be looking at trying to get his ring, he would have no problem producing (no where near elite 700-800 yds a year) and being noticed and talked about is everyday life in NY sports so that should be enough to hold him over.
Also he is a good route runner should be a upgrade over J-Co
I dont think anyone is saying to bring this guy in to be a #1. You got a problem with a low money 2 year deal to be a #2
Nope. He’s not good enough where his play outweighs his nonsense. Don’t want him anywhere near my developing QB.
I just dont see any risk all WRs tell the QB I want the ball dont see him interferring with Sanchez’s devolpment.
I don't I've ever seen a pro receiver (or any level really) throw a temper-tantrum on the field before, like Chad did last season.
A mid-game temper tantrum. All because he was open and his QB threw it to the better receiver. Right in the middle of the field. One of the OLs had to push him out of the huddle.
And you want to bring that shit to NY???? With a young a QB and stick him in a run-oriented offense and having him play 2nd or 3rd or even 4th fiddle (Keller) to whoever is here?
No gracias.

I Dont Watch the Bengals
So I dont know about that but Sanchez has said he wants to play with Ocho in a tweet so I belive they have a off the field relationship dont see a problem bringing him in.
All WRs say they want the ball, there is a problem if a WR doesnt say get me the ball I want to make a play
you sounds like you are talking about T.O
not ocho. ocho has only been to the playoffs twice and he lost both. i don’t think you can gudge him that much. he realy has never been on a team that was going for a sb, whenever the begels made it to the playoffs it was a suprise, since they won like 3 games the preivious year. i think he would care more about winning if he was with us. you can think dif though, but the fact is he doesn’t suck. the stats say the story, although he didn’t have a great year, palmer wasn’t either. again t.o is the one who bothers the qb, ocho thinks he’s awesome, but he doesn’t realy complaint
"it's not easy being green"-kermit the frog
"we the mets are an improved ball club, now we lose in extra innings"-casy stengal
i cant spell a nosebleed
he's gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!OLIE PEREZ IS GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And for the record
I don’t believe that any of the players mentioned are absolutely necessary for our offense to succeed….In fact we don’t NEED to get a WR in FA it would be another tool though. I like Malcolm Floyd, Mike Sims Walker, and Legadu Naanee come to mind
totally agree
when was the ny jets offense most productive??????
the 1st 4 games of the season last year…WITHOUT HOLMES….and with braylon and cotchery as the nyt jets #1and 2 recievers……we ran our offense through the ground and keller and i would like the jets to do more of that this season….3rd and 5 i trust the guys we have ….also we have kereley who can really make guys miss and burn people after the catch…..the only reason why i would want the jets to get another reciever is because we dont know how healthy cotchery will be at the start of the season…
also i jsut think that sims walker is gonna get a nice pay day because hes athletic and has had a bad reciever for the past few years
WHY?
Did someone promote this to the front page Randy Moss goes from 0 to 50 votes
Can we honestly do nothing about this poll business?
This is really stupid don’t even bother putting polls up anymore guys some loser is ruining them.
I don't mind Ocho
But I wouldn’t really want him unless it was for nothing and just to bolster the corps. No way to TO. No way to Moss.
So Let It Be Written, So Let it Be Done.
NO TO OCHO
No to every single one of these asses: T.O, Randy Moss, and Ochocinco. Even Vincent Jackson. Forget about all of them they would just ruin the lockeroom and Sanchez’s development.
disagree
TO and Ocho will try every down I think Ocho is a bad lockeroom guy just has a bad rep with the media playing somewhere he hates didnt everyone say Braylon was a lockerroom cancer look at how that has played out.
TO is 36 I belive and just wants to play its not about records he lost all of his consecutive catches and has had poor seasons the past two years we have a strong lockerroom and dont see TO who is just wants to play at this point of his career as a risk not like we cant cut him.
Dont want no part of Moss or Jackson he cant seem to stay out of trouble and coming to the NY-NJ area wont help
TO is also a slouch according to Revis
He has a bit of a rep of taking plays off too
So Let It Be Written, So Let it Be Done.
I'll Give you that
But still like him alot more than Moss

My belief about our WR situation is that we don’t need Holmes and Edwards. It becomes to much of a distraction trying to get everyone the ball.
At least Holmes has it in him to not demand the ball. Ocho, and Moss are nothing but career ME guys. At least Rex got to Bray and Holmes while they were young, to help them mature a little. Moss and Ocho are at the end of their road, and won’t be changing anytime soon. If you don’t want to distract our offense with getting the ball to everyone, you don’t go out and get one of these guys.
Get busy winning or get busy losing.
Holmes did complain
after the AFC Championship game he made a jab a Schotty saying that he should’ve gotten the ball thrown at him earlier.. Another reason I don’t want Holmes, because he is willing to throw his coaches under the bus instead of accepting that was part of the gameplan
ALL WRS
Want the ball, Jerry Rice was always saying to the QB I want the ball I think there is a problem if the WR dont say throw the ball to me I’m going to make a play
Did Jerry every throw a temper tantrum on the field and get kicked out of the huddle?

Couldnt anwser that
Before my time didnt watch him
We really dont need another hired gun.
Signing these aging free agents is hurting the team severely. Ocho or Moss aren’t in their prime anymore and won’t be putting up anything significant production wise. It is much wiser to groom a younger cheaper WR(i.e. the two we drafted) than to sign an aging vet who in 2-5 years will leave another hole on the roster. If we lost Holmes and were looking for a second WR i personally would just leave this whole group alone(Ocho, TO, Moss) their risk TOTALLY outweighs the production they will bring here. I’d rather just go with J-Co and whoever else is behind them on the depth chart.
And as we’ve seen the more weapons we have the more random useless crap schotty comes up that never seems to work.
I don't hate ocho but I hate what his media persona is.
I’m more afraid of giving him free range in NYC’s super media outlet… I fear he’ll become unproductive as he tries to get shows, deals, and everything under the sun to hook himself to before his 15 minutes of football glory are up.
I will admit, at least he changed his name. Tells me, he’s giving up some of his persona but not all of it.
TO would be an okay replacement for Edwards.
Ocho, could be a somewhat okay replacement for Holmes but I’d rather have someone like Sidney Rice then since we are speculating to replace Holmes.
And the home of the .... JETS!!!
Now lets get a G-D snack!!!
Wow 201 votes for Randy Moss
Some Giant, Dolphin, Pat, or Bills fan needs to get a life.
IMO we should look at younger guys with less name recognition first
But I don’t think Ocho would be a horrible replacement for Santonio if he isn’t looking for too much money. I’m not thrilled about his production lately but he’s certainly athletic. I also have to accept the fact that Santonio is irreplaceable and letting him go is a sacrifice because he’s looking for a huge payday.
I don’t think Randy Moss is a good replacement for Santonio. I think under very specific circumstances Randy Moss might still have enough in the tank to play a cheap vertical threat replacing Edwards if need be, but not Holmes.
I’d like to avoid all of the older receivers with baggage that have been floating around here for discussion lately, but I’m not adamantly opposed to picking one of them up if the coaches or FO sees something in them.

Ocho Has Great hands not Good ones
And 800 somethings yards on 67 receptions is not below average just the touchdowns (4)
I'm not a huge fan of his but...
67 receps is good for a WR, especially a 2 or 3. And 4 TDs and Avg may speak more to use and how good the O is rather than the player ability.
So Let It Be Written, So Let it Be Done.
Why
is everyone referring to him as Ocho? He should never be referred to a Ocho by a jets fan. He said he would change his name back to Chad Johnson if Revis shut him down, and he got SHUT DOWN!!!! So he’s Chad Johnson now, and i don’t want him on the Jets.

Its just hard breaking the habits of calling him by his stage name.
And the home of the .... JETS!!!
Now lets get a G-D snack!!!
85 makes sense..
Chad can do everything Holmes has done. Why spend big money on someone who made it clear he’s all about the paper? He already has a SB ring so he could careless about us. Bring in Chad because he’s hungry and that’s exactly what Rex wants. All that distraction to Sanchez talk is BS..especially if both Mark & Revis want him. Same ppl bitchin about a distraction is voting for T.O. The same guy nobody wanted two seasons ago lmaoo

I don't want Ocho
or Owens or Moss or Plaxico.
I want Bray Bray and Santonio. Just my humble opinion, but if we don’t get those two guys, it will be a downgrade. Neither Owens, Ocho, Moss, or Plaxico are as good as Bray Bray or Santonio.
Apologies if this has been said earlier. Cheers everyone.
Proud to root for the Jets, Mets, and Islanders!!!
What is WITH you people
and your obsession with Randy Moss? (looking at the poll results)
Moss is WASHED. UP. He’s a locker room cancer that even Belichick couldn’t keep in line for more than 3 years. His skills started slipping and he started lashing out because he is in DENIAL that his years simple physical dominance are OVER.
I hate capitalizing entire words, I know it makes me look like a 15-year-old, but hot DAMN we need to drop this Moss thing before we get some kind of venereal disease.
BTW I voted Other
And I would take almost anyone other than 85 or Moss.
But put a gun to my head, I’ll take 85. Given who’s out there, I don’t see why we need more back than either Edwards or Holmes. I don’t think we’re hurting that bad for a WR, remember when we were just fine with Coles as our #1 and Cotchery at #2?
if holmes goes then i want a wr who isn't over the hill
85, T O and moss have all seen better days . why not get someone younger who can grow with sanchez rather than a 1 year wonder . sims walker could be a decent no.2 or maybe steve smith ( giants ) if he gets healthy .
if its for you it won't pass you
Sims Walker is going to get paid and cant see steve smith leaving giants/Giants letting him go. But I agree I wouldnt want to replace Holmes with any of those guys Braylon is a different story
Agree
as great as Edwards has been for us, he’s much easier to replace. He’s also going to be much less costly in comparison to Holmes.

smith is a free agent
and everyone love rex . i think he could be a great signing for us .
i’d keep edwards before holmes
if its for you it won't pass you
I still like/prefer the chemistry Edwards has with Sanchez
Holmes is a me first player and wants his paycheck…not worth it to me and our offense NEEDS to go back to the ground and pound and there is no need for santonio in a run first offense…It is an extra expensive luxury that the cost outweighs the benefit when we may not need him at all
How About Moss
I would be 100% behind bringing back Santana Moss he is not the burner he once was but runs routes good hands could be a good replacement player for Holmes
Haha GreenBeer
how is this pic relevant to anything anti-cheatriots? You insinuating that we should start calling them the choketriots as well?
I was in a anti-randy Moss mode
Didn’t realize he meant santana. Darth vader is always relevant.
So Let It Be Written, So Let it Be Done.
I wish James Earl Jones would do play by play for Jets games

Offense is screwed without Holmes...
say it again Edwards can be replaced, Holmes will be very difficult, specifically with those options.
Very little difference if its Holmes and Edwards, or Holmes and Moss (or Smith), although I prefer Holmes and Edwards. Huge step down IMHO if its Ocho and Edwards, and Smith/Moss and Edwards does not make sense. Ocho is not as good as Holmes at this point, Moss and Smith (as well as Edwards) are not complete receivers they are deep threats, and need to be paired with a YAC guy like Holmes.
Only proper replacement for Holmes would be Rice, or maybe VJ.
This is all with regards to passing offense, the Edwards is a great blocker argument to me is complete BS, receivers impact in running game is minimal, and is not important enough to factor in to the decision.
Not quite
2009 season was without Holmes
1st 5 games of 2010 was without Holmes
I appreciate your respect for the guy, but our offense will do just fine without him. Edwards, isn’t ‘just a deep threat’, that just what we use him as. I’ve seen plenty of quick slants where he’s shielding the ball with that huge frame of his and it’s nearly impossible to defend against without help.
I like Holmes, but lets not treat him like he’s the “end-all, be-all” of our offense; That’s just silly.
Eh
Granted I like Ocho’s personality but he can go from team player to team diva in one bad game if not during. If there is a free agent reciever that that team should at least look at it’s Plaxico Burress. The man hasn’t been hit in two years and pretty much has much time to keep in shape.
