GGN Mock Draft Round 2, Pick 5, Cleveland Browns-Martez Wilson LB Illinois

Sorry I'm late-school until 2:00.  But anyways, Martez Wilson is the pick for the Browns in the second round.  The Browns whole defensive line needs some rebuilding, but their linebackers are practically in just as bad of shape.  Their front seven is literally made up from our scraps with Kenyon Coleman, David Bowens, and Eric Barton starting and Jason Trusnik their go-to backup at linebacker.  Not to mention that Reggie Hodges and Abram Elam are also starters.  sometimes you have to wonder how this teams defense holds up to win games.  But anyways, our draft really knocked out most of the talented D-lineman, and some that I thought could drop like Heyward, Clayborn, and Wilkerson are gone, too.  Besides, I am an enormous Martez Wilson fan and I wanted him to be our pick at 30 in this draft.  Additionally, the Browns linebackers are just soooooo bad.  Bowens and Barton are both 33 yet run like they're 50, and Matt Roth and Chris Gocong, their other starters, could definitely be replaced by this kid.

Wilson can play ILB or OLB without a doubt.  With their front seven, he could maybe even play some DE, since he was a stud DE through high school.  He could start from day 1 and make an immediate impact.  People say he doesn't have enough pass rushing talent to be a first round pick, but I see plenty out of him.  The guy runs a 4.49, the fastest of any linebacker this year, and benched a decent 23 reps.  He shows his strength on tape and always looks nicely matched up with even O-lineman because of his size (6'4, 250).  So what do we have: the size of a small DE, so you're thinkinghe would be best fit as a 4-3 strong-side LB, but he runs like a safety.  He has great pursuit, and plugs up running lanes all day long.  He will miss a tackle here and there, but he is pretty consistent and hits very hard.  Lastly, his physicality isn't an issue, which I would like to point out because many LB's in this class do.  Justin Houston and Akeem Ayers are just a few that I wouldn't want in Rex's D because they are soft and don't hustle.  The Browns could use a guy who can make plays, which they haven't had in a while.  Last year the playmaking was pathetic.  The starting linebackers combined for 6 sacks.  While Wilson isn't a double-digit sack guy by any means, he could provide some more depth, youth, and hustle to this D.

I would also like to add on a last note that this guy will be a tank on Special Teams, as you see him block a punt in the video.  If you would like to see actual game highlights to get a better analysis, my man AloAloysius on Youtube has two great game tapes on him vs. Ohio State and Michigan.  I put in the overall college career highlights just to show the versatility and playmaking ability this guy has.
