It is hard for me to imagine Mr.T going one draft without trading. It's simply not in his nature. I have a gut feeling that in the second or possibly 3rd round we'll make a trade. Looking at the updated 2nd round positions I see a few trade scenarios that could play out tomorrow. Keep in mind, when Tanny trades up it is normally for a guy that they are more than confident will be a valuable asset to the team; and when they are more then confident that has normally worked out better for the Jets. Here is a list of a few scenario's and potential targets for Rounds 2 & 3:
Analysis: We target Brooks Reed, OLB Chris Carter or the Big Nasty in Kenrick Ellis. (I swear one day that'll be his nickname). The Redskins are in a current state to where they should be accumulating draft picks and rebuilding. With this pick we are in a win now mentality and if we draft one of these guys we are a lot closer to giving the QB 2 seconds in the pocket. Point comparison (Jets giving at the minimum 284 Redskins giving up 410) Keep in mind, when Tanny trades up it is normally for a guy that they are more than confident will be a valuable asset to the team; and when they are more then confident that has normally worked out better for the Jets.
Analysis: We are looking at another 3 or 4 man draft the next year, but we are in a win now mentality and Mr.T has said time and time again they value quality over quantity. Could work for the Broncos who accumulate more draft picks for next years draft.
Scenario 3: Trade our 3rd round pick (94th), and next years 3rd round pick for the Cardinals 3rd round pick (69th)
Analysis: At the very minimum the point total works out to Jets giving up 240 points and the Cardinals give up 245 on the trade value chart. Cards might miss out on a QB in the 2nd round (Bills and Bengals choose ahead and imo will go Daylton, Mallet); with no QB left they are either forced to reach for Colin Kaepernick or they draft someone else. If Kaepernick is gone then they might want to trade to the back of the 3rd and reach at the end of the 3rd for Colin Kaepernick while accumulating picks.
Potential Targets: 2nd round: OLB Brooks Reed, DE Da'Quan Bowers, NT Kenrick Ellis, DE/NT Jabbal Sheard, (as much as I would hate to see the Jets trade for him) Akeem Ayers, Justin Houston (again I oppose), ILB Martez Wilson, Safety Raheem Moore, or CB/S Aaron Williams.
3rd round: WR Edmund Gates (although the Jets might be able to wait at 94 and get him), OLB Chris Carter, NT Kenrick Ellis, DE Da'Quan Bowers (who knows?), Safety Ras I Dowling, OLB Bruce Carter (could drop due to his injury),
