Mock A Rama
Tim Graham has a compilation of mocks that have the Jets going all over the map.
- Kiper's pick: Cameron Heyward, Ohio State defensive end
- McShay's pick: Phil Taylor, Baylor nose tackle
- Bunting's pick: Justin Houston, Georgia outside linebacker
- Davis' pick: Phil Taylor, Baylor nose tackle
- King's pick: Muhammad Wilkerson, Temple defensive lineman
- Nawrocki's pick: Akeem Ayers, UCLA outside linebacker
- Rang's pick: Phil Taylor, Baylor nose tackle
- Reuter's pick: Jabaal Sheard, Pittsburgh defensive end
- Wilson's pick: Justin Houston, Georgia outside linebacker
As always, it depends on whom goes before. Taylor seems like as close of a consensus as there is right now. With all of this talk about his feet, it feels like there is a real chance he slides. I have a big question, though. The Jets took Dewayne Robertson in 2003, now widely regarded as a huge bust. He busted partially because of a knee condition. Will the Jets hesitate to take another guy whose frame puts a lot of pressure on a load bearing lower body part?
I think Taylor might be the risk. Do you?

U are always going to have that risk
When draft a NT or signing one they are rare freaks of size and strength and you will always have risks with them staying healthy that is why there are fewer Dominint NT then any other postion. But My issue with him is..
I want an absloute bully on the field someone who just beats up on interior lineman and i’m not convinced he’s that guy.
Robertson shouldnt be compared...
to Phil Taylor at all….before we took Robertson, there were a TON of reports stating that the Kentucky defense wasnt very good against the Run and he was an average Pass Rusher at the DT spot, yet we took him in hopes of making our awful Run D better, it didnt work out as planned as we all know…..but with Taylor we get a 6’4 340-350lb plug in the middle of our line that will require 2 lineman like Jenks did, it will open up more oppurtunities for our LBs to get pressure on the QB….if we dont take Taylor because hes already been picked, i hope to god we take Kenric Ellis or Jerrell Powe…you guys that want another LB dont seem to understand that in a base 3-4 D it is IMPERATIVE that you have 3 guys up front that will require constant double teams from opposing Offensive Lineman in order for those LBs to get to the QB…taking another LB with this pick is a mistake
Crackback wrote a fan post last week about “Drafting to Scheme: The Base 3-3-5” where he argues for taking 2 of 3 of Taylor, Powe and Ellis. Definitely a good read if you haven’t read it.
I definitely have reservations about Taylor’s foot condition – because foot injuries can be nagging and derail a guy’s career as much as a knee injury. My preference would be to trade back into the early 2nd round and pick up an extra 2nd or more likely 3rd round pick to do this and then take Taylor in the early portion of the second round (contract would be cheaper) and with that extra 3rd round pick to take Ellis. I do not think you can go wrong coming away with 2 monsters to plug into your front line. Combine Taylor and Ellis with DeVito, Ellis (assuming he is back) and Pouha and we have some serious meat up front and are going to be murder on opposing OLs and running backs. I also think this will make our LBs more effective.
