Top Ten New York Jets Draft Successes #7: Marvin Powell

Stay connected for news and updates

The Jets took Marvin Powell with the fourth pick in the 1977 NFL Draft. The tackle from USC rewarded them with nine excellent years in green and white with five career Pro Bowls. It is difficult to gauge offensive linemen due to a lack of statistics, but he was a rock on the offensive line.

Equally as impressive is what he accomplished off the field, gaining a law degree from New York University and rising to President of the NFLPA.

The Jets took another tackle fourth overall 29 years later. D'Brickashaw Ferguson is on his way to having a Powell like career. At the end of Brick's career, it looks like we will remember him as a success in Powell's league.
