Charles Clay, RB/FB/H-Back, Tulsa

Charles Clay recently came in for a workout.  At 6'4" and 245 lbs, Clay is basically a FB projected to go in the 4th round. Are the Jets unsure of what they have in John Connor? Possibly, but this guy is a bit of a different prospect than Connor.  Still, odd that the Jets worked him out though.

More after the jump.

For his college career, Clay has 911 rushing yards and 10 rush TDs.  He ran a 4.7 40 but appears to have some shiftiness.  Well, he is not really a RB.  As a FB, he doesn't exactly have those Terminator blocks.  In fact, I saw some tape where he looks a little confused trying to block.  Certainly the Terminator has the edge there.  However, Clay has very soft hands.  In college, he had 2,544 receiving yards and 28 receiving TDs.   Here is some tape:

The only reason we carried two FBs last year was because Connor was supposed to be the heir apparant to Richardson.  Are the Jets contemplating Clay as an H-Back?  We already have an undersized pass catching TE in Keller.  We also have an oversized WR turned pass catching TE in Cumberland.  Why would the Jets be looking at a pass catching FB/HBack player projected to go in the 4th?  Don't get me wrong, I want an H-Back offense, it just seems we already have the guys on the roster.  Very strange I think.
