Malcolm Smith came in for a visit this week. He wasn't invited to the combine but ran a 4.4 40 at his pro day. Which by the way is very fast. He is on the smaller side at 6 foot and 229 lbs. but still managed 28 reps of 225 lbs. He also had a 39 vertical. Impressive athletics.
More after the jump.
I thought it was interesting that the Jets brought him in. Obviously everyone likes speed, but he would probably end up as an ILB for us. He played weakside at USC. Looking at some tape, he can go side line to side line with ease. He also has pretty good coverage skills. I saw two INTs returned for TDs. One was a 74 yarder. He also had another fumble returned for TD. His tackling looks suspect at times as he ends up with a few foot tackles here and there. He's only had one career sack. Here's some tape:

Oh, on the medical side he has some rare disease that causes him to throw up all the time. Therefore he has trouble keeping on weight.
Interesting prospect. More interesting is that the Jets have interest in a guy that is a bit on the smaller side but has that crazy speed. Somewhat like the interest in Dontay Moch. I'd be curious to see how Rex would use that tool out of the tool box.
