Jerrel Jernigan is a guy that I've liked ever since I've first heard of him. The guy sounds like a real dangerous threat at WR. While he stands at just 5'9" 185, he has run as high as 4.32 in the 40. He's the alltime Sun Belt Conference record holder with 262 career receptions for 3128 yds. He had 84 receptions in 2010
when asked to compare himself to a current NFL player, Jernigan said he thinks he most is like DeSean Jackson. I think after reading about him I see some similarities to our very own Santonio Holmes as well.
Here's what Mocking the Draft had to say about him
Acceleration: Jernigan is a dangerous playmaker with the quickness and acceleration to threaten the defense. His two step ability allows him to reach top speed in a hurry. Jernigan's short area burst helps him create space between him and the defender. He possesses a good 2nd gear that allows him to stretch the defense and make plays down the field. Jernigan is a real threat with the ball in his hands and has the quickness to outpace defenders and beat defensive angles.
Agility: The ability to take quick and balanced steps allows Jernigan to play at full speed. He is able to remain balanced as he works in and out of his breaks. He rarely needs to slow down in order to make his cuts which helps him gain separation. Jernigan's body control gives him the ability to drop his pad level and make tough catches.
While I think that we shouldnt take a WR before the 4th round, if we were to take one I wouldnt mind it being Jernigan. In general, I'm not overly excited about the WR's in this draft but Jernigan is one of the few who I'd be genuinely excited if we picked him. He probably won't last to us as he's expected I think to be a 2nd rounder but if he falls he could be available in the 3rd (or if Tanny trades up).
