The Jaguars still need help in the secondary, and I thought about taking Davon House with the pick. Adrian Clayborn is also still available and thought about taking him even though the Jags already took a DE in the first with Kerrigan. Positions in need-CB, S, LB, WR- can be addressed later in the draft. A talent like Ponder wouldn't make it much farther past this pick.
Ponder gives the Jags a franchise QB who can take over(maybe even challenge) for Garrard in the near future. With the rate of QB's being taken, I decided to take Ponder who I feel is one of the top QB's in the entire draft.
A little analysis on PonderHealthy at the Senior Bowl and combine, Ponder starred, earning Offensive MVP honors during the all-star game and stealing the spotlight from Cam Newton and others during the throwing session at the combine. Ponder proved that, when healthy, his intelligence, mobility and accuracy to the short and intermediate levels make him a legitimate franchise quarterback prospect. Ponder's skill set best fits the West Coast offense. This scheme -- relying on quick decisions and well-timed, precise passes -- helps make up for Ponder's lack of ideal size (6-2, 230) and average arm
