I've been intrigued by this guy for a while based upon what i've read in various scouting reports, but i haven't had the pleasure of seeing one of his games and I haven't been able to find any tape on him until recently. From what i've seen above, which I admit is not a lot, I like him. You can see he's an all-out effort guy, and the scouting reports say the same. One of those that will wear you down with his relentlessness. And you can also tell he's one of those guys that loves the violence of the sport. He's going to make himself move as fast as he can and he's going to smash himself into the ball carrier with as much velocity as he can generate. I love his burst, he really pops off the line at the snap. And I like how he uses his speed and quickness and tenacity to get the edge against much bigger men. The word seems to be that he's not very good in coverage. But to be perfectly honest, I could care less about coverage. We've had a top 3 defense over the last 2 years and our OLBs can't cover a lick. Just give me a guy that can get to the QB, and that has the speed and tenacity to make a play on the downs where he gets blocked initially. Too often our guys would get blocked and stay blocked, as if their job was to tie up a blocker to create space for a blitzer. I get the feeling that Carter would not only tie up a blocker, but he will bring it and bring it and bring it until the whistle blows. He'll chase down a ball carrier on outside runs away from his side just praying for a cutback so that he can blow him up. You can tell he's just nasty like that.
His speed and burst will make him a great fit for what we try to do defensively. He'll really force OTs to shuffle wide out of their stance to protect their outside edge, which in turn will create wider lanes for blitzers and make max/slide protection much more difficult to execute. Pairing him with a big, athletic DL that can tie up blockers and push the pocket would be ideal. A guy like say... Kenrick Ellis (I'm driving this bandwagon until the wheels fall off yall). He's also a high effort, high intensity guy which tends to rub off on teammates. I wouldn't be disappointed at to grab Carter in the 3rd or 4th round.
