When people look at our D-line, they automatically blame our pass rush inefficiencies on the defensive ends. I think that analysis is highly inaccurate. I love Pouha, but what he does best is stuffing the middle, and shutting down the run. What he lacks, Jenkins had. Kris had the ability to push the middle like no other. If you didn't double team Jenkins, the result was something rather embarrassing for the center. Once Jenkins got injured, a steep drop off in pass rush was evident.
Now Phil Taylor is a huge man, and the number 1, pure NT in the draft. All the experts are saying he is the next Kris Jenkins. I don't know about all of you out there, but the next Kris Jenkins sounds like someone we should invest in. Just watching the highlight video of him against Oklahoma, proved that the experts are on to something. He pushes the middle right into the QB. He also has a drive, and thirst for carnage. He didn't give up on any plays. You can see him running down field, chasing down running backs. He has what it takes to play like a Jet, and Rex would be drooling if Taylor is around by our pick.
Taylor was said to be too heavy during the season, and out of shape. He showed up to the Senior Bowl lighter, and ready to impress. His stock went from the 4th round to maybe the 2nd. Then at the Combine, he impressed us even more. This boosted him from a solid 2nd to a fringe 1st round pick. The word on the street, about his Pro Day, is that he wowed everyone. This solidified his spot in the 1st, and hopefully he is around at 30. Our pass rush would instantly be improved.
