The Jets don't have too many needs to address in the draft. With that being said, we should trade out of the first round and get an early second round pick and a third round pick. Unless Mike T and Rex are WOWed by a certain player and feel it necessary to draft them, trading out of the first round makes sense. We are already out a second round pick for Cromartie. We should look to upgrade on defense mainly and a kicker in the latter rounds would be nice.
We should look to draft a 3-4DE that can play under shaun Ellis for a year or two until he retires. A 3-4DE's job is mainly to push the offensive line back into the quarterback and let LBs make the plays on passing plays. In run defense, a 3-4DE should be stout in a 34 defense and hold ground on double teams from offensive lineman. With that being said, JJ Watt and Allen Bailey fit the bill in that respect.
Jason Taylor and Bryan Thomas are terrible, let's face it. Taylor most likely will retire and Thomas needs to go. A rush 3-4OLB should also be addressed in the draft. Sam Acho is flying under that radar from Texas and may fall into the third round. He would be a steal and is often compared to Brian Orakpo.
We can make due with Brodney Pool and Leonard in the meantime in the backfield until 2012 draft prospects become availbale
Among signing other players like Harris, Edwards, and Holmes, Mike Tannembaum is in good position to be successful in the draft.
