While we spent the day discussing Brodney Pool, another potential safety option is apparently off the board. Former Jet Erik Coleman, recently released by the Falcons, is heading to Detroit.
The person, who spoke Friday on condition of anonymity because the agreement had not been announced, did not specify the length of the deal.
Coleman has played seven seasons in the NFL, the last three with the Atlanta Falcons. He started every game in 2008 and 2009, but he lost his starting job last season and was released by Atlanta earlier this month.
I do not think speculation about a Coleman return was anything more than that. Coleman is a guy who does nothing especially poorly, but he is also a guy who does nothing spectacularly either. I would rather the Jets bring back Brodney Pool for cheap and see whether Brodney can build on his great late year run.
