Jets Dominate Fourth Quarter; Beat Redskins
The Jets are 7-5 after a 34-19 victory over the Redskins in Landover, MD. The Jets blew a tight game open in the fourth quarter, outscoring the 'Skins in the money quarter 21-6. They got big plays from all three units to secure the victory.
We have not seen the Jets put together a sustained stretch like that fourth quarter since the first game against the Bills. Unlike last week's mistakefest against Buffalo, a quarter to close the game like this might give this team a bit of confidence. For the first time in a month, I actually feel good about where this team might be headed.
There is still plenty of work in front of the Jets. They got some help today but not all they needed. Their margin for error remains razor thin. They might have finally found the formula for success, though.
Celebrate below. The official recap will be up later.

Yes we got the win.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves and believe that things don’t need to be changed.
It was the Washington Redskins, not the Pittsburgh Steelers.

FFS, enjoy the win!

Don't get behind yourself either
We won two close games with the team showing up when it needed too. It isn’t a Jets win if it was easy.
honestly, I didn't see domination.
I saw Washington, a very bad team what we should never have struggled against, fall apart.
I know it isn’t going to be written that way. But it is what I saw.
Nice drive by Sanchez pulling it out, but it was not domination. The Jets came “that close” to losing this game.
Yup, but we already know how handcuffed this team is

I agree, I'm just realistic and know it won't happen, but a Jets win never feels bad.
I don’t think a win really fools anyone in this particular fandom into thinking that we are a great team, however.

If Sanchez continues to play like this, I'll shut my mouth and be a happy camper!
BUT, as I’ve been saying, as long as he plays well, the team will rally behind him.
Nooooo thanks man I'm content with Sanchez

Yeah, HELL yeah
I still do. My favorite quarterback ever, and quite possibly one of the greatest over Sanchez? lol Yes I’ll have seconds please!
He's not as over the hill as Favre was.
Trust me. He’s still got a solid 5 years in him left. And by the way, I hated the Favre move.
Awesome
How Maybin only had one sack with the Bills is beyond comprehension.
McKnight better watch his back Josh Baker could steal his job.
Great win now we have to keep it up next week against KC!
Ha Ha
Even better. Bills fans are so pissed he’s doing well with us!

I don't want to hear anymore CP3 to the Knicks trade rumors
It was a combination of factors
The coaching staff, changes in defensive scheme, being asked to do things he never did in his one season as a starter in college to name a few.
I really do have to give credit to the Jets coaching staff for building him up and using him in the best way possible. I hope he is smart enough to resign with the Jets, because I believe that is the only way he’ll develop even further.
It's a W.
We will take it. We need to dominate Kansas City.

I'll just take a W that game...
That has got to be the most schizophrenic team in the NFL right now.
There. That’s more like it. You don’t take two trips to the AFC title game with an average team. I keep hearing people throw that term around. We are not an average team. We are a good, talented team that has underperformed. We have playmakers and stars up and down our roster. And when our OC doesn’t shoot the offense in the foot, our line keeps the QB clean and we actually get a pass rush going, we can beat anyone.
Great
that just proves that in addition to a horrible OC we have a coach who knows little about offense inserting himself where he should not…just as we thought.
he need to slap himself

a loss to the Ravens the week after would work as well

They all have some tough games upcoming.
Oakland still has GB, and Detroit I believe. Tennessee has houston and new Orleans. Cincy has Houston and Baltimore remaining. Denver still has to play NE. I think we have a greater chance of winning out than they do.
I know our players are more like Cro...
then Revis, but the coaches have got to do better. Nice to see SG with 20+ carries, hope schotty realizes Sanchez is better when we run first. Im used to schotty’s head scratchers but why has westy put unsure hands back to return punts when a secure punt and drive will sustain momentum or leads. With inconsistent players you need solid coaching not risky unneccessary gambles.
The best thing may have happen for the Jets
Denver is now in first place in the AFC west. If the Jets get the last playoff spot and Denver wins the west. The Jets get a return trip to Denver and revenge on Tebow. Of course they need to win their next game first.

Good win
Defense played pretty solid after the 1st drive. Special teams sucked. Plain and simple. Sanchez did play great in the 4th quarter. And props to Maybin, he put the game away!

would you be saying that if Holmes dropped the TD pass and the Jets lose?
Honestly, we came very close to losing, and if we did it would have been almost all on the defense.
This was a bad defensive performance against a below average offense.
Just my opinion tho.

34-19 yeah key, we came close to blowing that one.
by Clarke W. Griswald on Dec 4, 2011 7:15 PM EST up reply actions
Eh.
I don’t think the score was indicative of how close that game was. It was a close game. The end score was the combination of a late, late surge on our part on a meltdown on theirs.
That game wasn’t really sealed until Maybin’s forced fumble. We were one signature pick six away from that game ending very differently.
I understand
I just hate when people say things like "if this guy didn’t catch that touchdown we would’ve…’ Well, if Kerley fair caught the punt before the half, the Jets would’ve been tied, or ahead going into half time. If Harris didn’t drop the pick, if that B.S. P.I. call on Strickland was never called, poole would’ve turned the ball over. Woulda, shoulda, coulda, what the f*** ever.

I guess we saw different things
Washington came into this game with the 27th ranked offense (DVOA).
Their offense broke 300 yards and 4.4 yards per rush.
That was NOT a “solid” defensive performance against one of the worst teams in the league, we were losing at half, and in fact were losing with 9 + minutes left in the game.
Of course we saw different things. We just disagree.
Just read this news
Redskins tight end Fred Davis and offensive tackle Trent Williams have received four-game suspensions for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
Good thing we won or I would have been pissed as hell that they played today!

I just saw that he has some good numbers
6 sacks and 4 forced fumbles.

If he bulked up to at least 240 and learned some new pass rusher moves, he'd be a monster.
I’d give him a 2 year deal. I think a training camp with our coaches would do him wonders.
The best source on the Playoff Race - looks like it at least
It looks like we want CIN to lose to Houston to even up the conference record.
Cincinnati is the No. 6 seed ahead of Tennessee, Oakland and N.Y. Jets based on conference record (6-4 to the Titans’ 5-4, the Raiders’ 5-5 and the Jets’ 5-5). Tennessee finishes ahead of Oakland and N.Y. Jets based on conference record (5-4 to the Raiders’ 5-5 and the Jets’ 5-5). Oakland finishes ahead of N.Y. Jets based on head to head (1-0).
tiebreakers, same source
AFC tiebreakers:
• Baltimore is the AFC North leader ahead of Pittsburgh based on head to head (2-0).
• Houston is the No. 1 seed ahead of New England and Baltimore based on conference record (7-2 to the Patriots’ 6-2 and the Ravens’ 5-2).
• New England is the No. 2 seed ahead of Baltimore based on conference record (6-2 to the Ravens’ 5-2).
• Denver finishes ahead of the N.Y. Jets and Tennessee based on conference record (6-3 to the Jets’ 5-5 and the Titans’ 4-4).
• N.Y. Jets finish ahead of Tennessee based on strength of victory (.409 to the Titans’ .379).
• Kansas City finishes ahead of San Diego based on division record (2-2 to the Chargers’ 2-3).
• Cleveland finishes ahead of Kansas City based on conference record (3-5 to the Chiefs’ 3-6).
• Jacksonville finishes ahead of Miami based on conference record (3-6 to the Dolphins’ 2-6).
Good win for the Jets
Only saw the last few minutes of the fourth(my dad and I were watching Falcons/Texans) but I don’t know and I may be wrong but it sure seems like those pesky Jets are at it again:D
Hey, I'll take it
There are no style points being awarded to anyone. As long as we’re in it, we’ve got a chance. This team never stops fighting, I’ll give them that.
That Sanchez flip to Greene for the 1st late in the game could have been the turning point of our run.
Our season was pretty much hanging in the balance on that play. After that the flood gates opened. I like how we finished strong on both sides of the ball. Time to rock KC.
The guys at Hogs Haven
are claiming that sepcial teams lost the game for them. That is funny because up till the point where the mishit the kickoff while leading 16-13 you could easily say that the Jets special teams had basically given them 9 points:
a)Kerley fumbles a punt they get a FG to end what should have been a tied half.
b)Folk misses a 40 yard FG (about 80% of those are made this year). A net -3 for the Jets.
c)The Jets give them a short field on punt+penalty+coverage right before the FG that broke the 13-13 tie.
Basically the game should have been nearly over BEFORE the bad kickoff. The special teams was better on the whole than ours was.
I missed most of the game (until the 4th Quarter)
K Ellis did not register a stat. Did he play? Did he have any push?
Missed the first half but heard it on the radio.
Saw the second half. A win is a win but it sounds like for 55 minutes this game was closer than it should have been – again. Defense hld them to 6 points after the opening drive of the game, including holding them to FG after the turnover.
Which brings us to special teams. Again, inexplicably not having Leonhard back inside the 20 on the punt. Big plays given up. Brain fart by McKnight. Against a playoff team mistakes like that will kill you.
As for the offense too much trickery again, despite the wildcat touchdown. Sanchez was not that good again – high passes, almost interceptions (I counted at least 2), and he was worse in the second half than the first. The one touchdown drive I think he was 5 of 6. The rest of the half he was 3 of 12. That’s not going to get it done.
A win is a win as I said, and KC should prove to be no more a challenge than Washington. But Philly could either have packed it or be playing for pride, the Giants will be a war, and Miami has turned it around since we last played them. It’s going to be tough to get to the playoffs if the team doesn’t start to play 4 quarters.
Not getting it done?
Yet another 4th quarter comeback, I’ll take it every time. It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish, IMO.
I enjoyed this game because it was a win and the defense was able to finally close
My sister in law is a Redskins fan so she and my sister came over to watch. I wish the Jets would’ve scored more in the first half but I’ve come to accept the Jets just aren’t that team. For whatever reason this team doesn’t wake up until the 4th qtr.
I wasn’t expecting much from the offense playing against the Redskins defense but the Jets defense and special teams let me down.
I’ll say this again, I don’t care how the Jets win as long as they keep winning.
Um can someone send a memo to Schotty and Rex to cut out the wildcat crap? It really throws off what little rhythm the offense has going.
