New York Jets Add Ricky Sapp to Active Roster
If you thought the Jets waived Eron Riley to make move for Braylon Edwards, you are in for some disappointment. The team filled its open roster spot today with DE/OLB Ricky Sapp, signed off the practice squad.
Sapp, a fifth-round pick of the Eagles in the 2010 draft, has never played in an NFL game.
Sapp missed all of 2010 with a knee injury. He played his college ball in the ACC at Clemson and had some admirers in the lead up to the 2010 Draft. The pass rush has been anemic virtually all year but especially in recent weeks. It is unclear how much time Sapp will get Sunday, but the Jets might at least give him a chance to make an impact on passing downs.
Riley was re-signed to the practice squad today. In effect, the team just flipped Sapp and him between the active roster and the practice squad.

Makes sense, no real success in bringing in Edwards for a single game.
And the home of the .... JETS!!!
Now lets get a G-D snack!!!

He's injured and rehabbing his shoulder though.
I wouldn’t trust it, unless we were making a run for the playoffs.

I thought the pass rush had improved with Westerman and Maybin,
apparently outside linebacker pass rush is not good enough, you need guys on the line that can bull rush and collapse or squeeze the pocket
We have that.
In fact, that’s the only way we’ve gotten pressure with any consistency all year long. Maybin’s been the only guy to actually then reach the QB with any regularity. Sapp’s I’m assuming is supposed to be another quick guy to get there.
Really I think this means nothing as he won’t see any game time unless it’s a blowout.

I wish we didn't play early so we would know whether or not our fate has been dealt.
I’d like to see guys that have talent but don’t get much burn. Guys like Sapp, Kenrick, Powell, Kerley, back-up safeties, etc.

I'm really hoping that Sapp pans out.
Could maybe ease the Jets burden going into next year. Sapp was never happy in Philly, plus a few injury set backs, maybe just maybe Rex is what the doctor ordered for him and the injury bug has left him. I would also love to see Gilbert come back and drop about 20-25lbs. IMO he would be a freak at OLB

The failure of Westerman & McIntyre
When Bryan Thomas went down, a tremendous opprotunity opened up for Westerman and McIntyre , and they failed miserably. Ricky Sapp is now the long shot hope at OLB. Bringing back WR Eron Riley, is an attempt to get a deep threat into the Receiving corp, 7 weeks is a long time, doesn’t look promising.
April is draft time,OLB and WR will be a priority, Sapp and Riley may determine how much of a priority
McInytre was an Undrafted Rookie, of course he isn't going to dazzle his first year.

So there may be some hope with McIntyre
If Mcintyre does improve, the combination of McIntyre & Mabin could be a solution for the Bryan Thomas position at OLB…. Can we agree that Westerman was a big disappointment
