WR Eron Riley Has Been Cut
When news broke out this morning that former Jets WR Braylon Edwards was released by the 49ers, many of you wished he would take the place of WR Eron Riley, a career practice squad player who has been on the Jets active roster. Well, your wish may be coming true. The team may be clearing room for the return of Dr. Beardface'. Per Manish Mehta via Twitter:
WR Eron Riley, who was inactive in 7 of his 9 games as a Jet, has been cut, a source confirms.
#nyj
But then again, the team has been busy releasing and signing players on and off the active roster and back to the practice squad, and so on. So this might not mean anything at all. Are you guys getting excited - or worried - that Braylon might return?

Seriously, whats the point?
A day to fly to New York, a physical on Thursday, a practice on Friday then a few snaps on Sunday? Then the season is (probably) over. Seems silly.
Its not about losing hope as much as it is about hoping they don't try to get Braylon back for one game

Could it be possible?
We pick Edwards up off the wire (cost 50 to 75 thousand). He said he wanted to play prior to the last two 49’ers games so he must feel he is healthy and his medical exam confirms it. He is put in the Miami game mainly to stretch the field. We throw him a pass or two, just to for appearance sake, not expecting him to catch anything. We win at Miami. The miracle happens and we make the playoffs. We then go into the wildcard against Texas, with a core of WR’s which includes Holmes, Plax, Edwards, Kerly. It could be interesting.
maybe they will sign him
I actually really hope they do. At first when they didn’t resign him i wasn’t too worried since i figured with all those off-field issues. Now i realize how much the Jets need him and how much Braylon needs the Jets. I’m aware that he won’t do anything for the remainder of the season, but it’d be moreso just to send a message to Braylon.

At this point
let’s throw it to the wall and see if it sticks.

Am I just me? Or am I hot in here?
His knee is still injured right?
He won’t even be able to contribute for our last game.
Oh yes that's right, I'm a Jets fan.

There's only one REGULAR season game left...
If we make the playoffs though, Braylon could make some major contributions.

i dont really care to have him back this season as hes hurt
but i’d love him back for next yr, especially if he’s learned some humble pie. i like him WAY better than plax
metsjetsknicksrangers.............can it get any worse?
Could it be
that they will sign Braylon and then give him a contract through the 2013 season?

Might be the idea. Signing him would allow them to negotiate with him on a future contract before the end of the season I believe.

Good idea to me.
If we make the playoffs hopefully Braylon could be of some use.
If we don’t, maybe it will help him want to stay with us next year.
Darrelle Revis once won a game of Connect Four in three moves.
Dude is dying to play for the Jets
Jets didn’t want him. There would be no convincing involved.

He was dying to play for the Jets...
but after the way he was snubbed do you think he still would? I think he was pretty bummed that the FO shit on him like that. Iwouldn’t blame him if he didn’t come back…
But I hope he does…he’s a Jet period
Yeah, I still think he would come back
With that said, I really don’t want him anymore.
by CervezaVerde on Dec 27, 2011 9:32 PM EST up reply actions
Why exactly?
It’s not like deep threat wideouts with exceptional hands and chemistry with our current QB are exactly growing on trees.
He’d fill a need, one that we’ve sorely lacked this year. I loved him last year, didn’t realize how much I’d miss him though until I started watching the highlight reel.
Bottom line… Last year’s offense looks like the friggin Packers compared to this years?
Yeah well it wasn't the Packers last year either
I’m just afraid there is a locker room issue with Braylon. Yeah, we know the FO is afraid of his behavior, but I think there is an aditional issue that isn’t quite out there fully.
by CervezaVerde on Dec 28, 2011 2:08 AM EST up reply actions
all speculation
where is the proof that the FO is afraid of his behavior? Why aren’t they afraid of Holmes’ behavior and Plaxico’s behavior? This is just such a BS reason to me.
It’s purely hypocritical to scream that Braylon has behavioral issues when we have a guy that let off a gun in a club and another that is one puff away from a suspension…and they’re all playing the same friggin position!!!
Truth is...
Braylon’s issues have been more recent than either Plaxico or Holmes’ incidents. At this point…they both seem to have learned from their mistakes. Tone and Plax haven’t had any “real” legal issues since their arrivals while Braylon did with the DUI after landing with the Jets following a legal issue that was not even fully resolved (he was still on probation w/ a suspended jail sentence). You can point to Tone’s legal issues but he hasn’t been charged with anything since his arrival (meaning he has not even had to meet with a lawyer for a court appearance). Do I even have to go into Plaxico’s track record since his arrival…the guy claims to have rid himself of all firearms and seems to stay away from the nightlife (the two things that actually got him in trouble). This may not be proof but if I were in the front office this is what I would be seeing. I don’t find it all that hypocritical for them to look at it that way especially if these things occur and the guy knows it’s a year he is also playing for a contract.

One more thing...
With those things said…I’m still not against bringing Braylon back…I do hope he stays out of trouble for the rest of his career though!
by Mac N Cheese on Dec 28, 2011 9:11 AM EST up reply actions
you're right that Braylon's issues themselves are more recent
but you could say the same thing that he’s kept himself out of trouble this year with the 49ers.
I don't know what ever became of this situation but....
http://www.profootballnyc.com/2011/08/same-old-jet-braylon-in-trouble-again.html
Like I said though…I’m not against bringing him back but as much as people say they would have signed him before the others he seems to be the bigger risk of the 3. He was not charged in this one so it’s hard to use this as part of my argument but it looks like he has a knack for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. He is quickly beginning to look like a “Pacman” Jones type individual that will need to be without a job for a while to clean up his act. So with that said…all I am saying is if I am running a business as the Jets organization is I sign Tone, and Plax before Braylon. It’s not a talent thing…it’s more of a trust that you will make it through the season with less chance of legal problems. Some of the confirmation of who to keep/sign could have taken place behind the scenes…basically someone in the FO talked to Tone and Braylon about off the field issues and didn’t necessarily get the “warm and fuzzzies” about Braylon being committed to cleaning up.
by Mac N Cheese on Dec 29, 2011 7:06 AM EST up reply actions
From a talent standpoint this is a no brainer
His hands are far better than Holmes and he can get separation unlike any receiver on our current team.

Oh God please!
Can we see the FO make a smart move??

Damn did anybody listen to Michael Kay
Just wondering was Braylon Edwards coming back to the Jets as a possibility mentioned to Sanchez when he was on today. Would like to know how he feels about Braylon.
by BIG OH!!!!! on Dec 27, 2011 7:35 PM EST via mobile reply actions
I didn't hear the interview
but Sanchez seemed pretty bummed about BE and Jco not coming back this year. I’m sure both he and Santonio would love to see BE in the bldg tomorrow, next year or anytime before next season starts.

This could...
… be the beginning of the changes yet to come. I am hoping so anyway, as B.Edwards was good for The Jets and The Jets were good for B.Edwards. This would more than likely be an improvement for next season and beyond. It would eliminate a weakness if it panned out as well as improving the team chemistry(a Win-Win situation).
i hope he does sign with us
this would be the perfect time to do it, right before the off season we can get him for a cheap 3 year deal coming off his knee injury.
Could it be? Is the beard returning to reunite with his bretheren?
I can see it now… Baron Davis (aka B Dizzle), Tyson Chandler, Bray Beard, and Mangold chillin like villains in their smoking jackets, with an aged cognac and a fine cigar. Expounding upon ancient warrior philosophies and and engaging in heated arguments regarding the top musical hits of the ’90s (B Dizzle and Mangold rekindling the age-old Nas v Jay-Z debate, Bray Beard trumpeting Biggie, Mangold defiantly claiming Smells Like Teen Spirit as the greatest album of all time).
Bring back Braylon. Unite the beards!!!

bring him back..
He was better than plax or santonio for us last year.Remember he is not some washed up receiver like terrel owens this guy is only 27 yrs old and in his prime. If we can get him cheap it would be a great signing even if we are not playoff bound. Plax, braylon and santonio would be a tough group to cover,……. if we can get our O line in order.
It'd be great to pick up Braylon. But i wonder what number he'd wear since plax wears 17 also.
Imagine he makes a huge impact for us, we win in miami and God loves us enough that we sneak into the postseason with a nasty WR corps. But i do want a top 20 pick so we can get either a solid RT or OLB. But i still want Braylon back.
I bet that Riley gets picked up before Bray
and honestly, I’m kind of disappointed that we never gave Riley a shot. His physical tools were outstanding, and he had a huge preseason this year. I guess his head was just never in the game.

I’m all in on this deal. I just wish it had happened 2 weeks ago. This leaving it to the last minute is making it dicy for this season’s chances. On the flipside…..if this is a way to get Braylon in and a chance to get a longer term deal done in the off season then let’s get on with it.
Speaking of which…..how are we doing on those two raffle tickets? You know the two tickets out of Paradise for Shottzie and Co. ……. they are going to win them right???
"It's only through change we learn to grow".
You'll have to wait until 2012 to get him now.
He cleared waivers and can’t be signed until next year.
