All I want for Christmas... A compete team!
I don't want to watch for a third season how or even if my team will make the playoffs. It is clear to me as it should be to every other jet fan if/when we do make the show we will not win because the team they have is incomplete. I used to believe like most the they were deficient in most crucial areas but I see now the problem goes deeper than that.
Mismatched players to the system
Mark Sanchez is a good young QB. better yet the team wants to run, the system says he needs to learn play action and stop leading receivers over 10 yards. After three years in the system his best playaction is a naked boot run. what this is is an indictment on the coordinator for bad teaching and/or a qb as stuborn as brett favre w/o his talent.
While Eric Smith is a quality run stuffer I don't qualify him as a pro safety. If the jets could find a cornerback who can tackle in space It would be an upgrade in the fact that the angles Smith takes to a thrown ball would justify him being on the field on passing downs. the defense is usually stout but always has a penchant for giving up big plays and on this team he is a liability.
Draft this used to be a strength but recently I am beginning to wonder...the jets draft policy has been to draft the best player period that has not worked out for them obviously they have found a couple gems but the fact that this teams has always been a couple players away from a championship means the team should draft according to need and It also means no projects in the first four rounds (sorry vlad and joe) drafting a safety, tackle and wr that could play day one would have saved us 2 games and the mason embarrassment.
Coaching
Shotty must go. Callahan too. the problem is teaching as much as it is playcalling. the mental mistakes are not going away and when the game is on the line I need the qb to know all his options before the play goes in that way it wont feel as though he cant make plays on his own. Ryan must take his beating like a man then get up and make changes..and stop talking unless he can guarantee what he says,

Man I felt like you.
Until I read Sportsfans thankful to be a jet post. Now I’m all mellowed out. Truth is, the Jets are not that bad, and they never were “the best”. The NFL is all about catching fire at the right time and riding it. The Jets are a running team, just because Shotty calls 65 passing plays doesn’t change that. You can’t put Butterbean in the ring and ask him to throw 65 jabs. He’s a power puncher. The Jets are a power running team thats lost their way. They’ll get back to it though. Schotty calls the plays, not Callahan. Who knows, maybe Callahan who groomed Slauson, will be the next OC. Slauson is the least penalized and he was personally groomed by Callahan. Draftwise, it’s a mix between need and best players. The Jets have probably done a better job than anyone I can think of the past 4 years drafting outside of Kansas City, Baltimore, and Cincinnati.
